Small idea: Someone refers to Horcruxes as "Whorescrotches". :p

Edit: now that I think of it, this sounds like something Rorschatch's Blot would come up with in his lists of things he wants to see in fics. I assure you, it was unintentional. ^_^
I don't see it really leading anywhere.

FWIW, I've seen them referred to as "shitboxes".
Yeah, it's more something that would have made me laugh, not something that would lead to a full-fledged story.

After the idea for Naruto to have his mother's chains protecting him in the corresponding thread, I've thought up a crossover idea with Lily having found a way to impart Harry with the Sand Shield and Shukaku's powers.

The Dursleys would be kind of... crushed to death, though.

Of the four Head of Houses it was the Head of Hufflepuff the students of Hogwarts used to gauge the seriousness of a situation. Snape as always had his sneer, McGonagall perhaps looked a bit sterner than normal, back stiff as she prepared to address the students. Flitwick's extremes when present were excellent tells, but more often than not it was hard to read through his sereness. Today though they might have been a bit sharper than normal.

No, it was Professor Sprout almost perfectly mimicking McGonnagall in stance, but with a face filled with worry that would have given the newly minted, as of yesterday in fact, Sixth year pause.

None of that mattered Today though. Today is the day that most of them had spent the past five years preparing for. The Ritual of -

"The Ritual of Unleash" The Deputy Headmistress began her address. Before Dumbledore it was always the Headmaster that would give this address.

Story goes he had a particularly nasty unleash, and preferred to pretend it didn't exist at all. The more powerful you become the worse it supposedly is, supposedly.

A price to be paid for power, the ultimate test of worthiness.

"As you have all been warned, today is the day all of you in this room become an adult. As an adult you are expected to make difficult choices. Today's will be the most difficult choice you will face as an adult, and some of you will assuredly make the wrong one. Today you decide if you will face Unleash, or if you will leave this halls for the last time."

It was a horrible choice. In a single day become at least twenty times more powerful risking insanity and death, or become an outcast perceived as being unworthy of magic. A rung of society lower than a squib, "After all they weren't given the chance to become Witches or Wizards, you were and threw it all away."

It wasn't uncommon for the chained to disappear in the night never to be seen again. A century ago it was practically sport to hunt down those who ran as far as they could at the end of their fifth years. Those who already felt they would be destroyed in the single moment of the ritual. As a result the death rate of the ritual was much, much, higher. 50% of the people in those days were either dead or put out of their misery.

Now the mortality rate was only 20%.

"I imagine by your choice to return to these halls you have already made your choice. If you were forced to come, now is the time to leave this room."

Lavendar wasn't on the train. Nether was Justin, or Terry, or Sally-Anne. Crabbe was surprisingly here - no, was here, but Goyle and Millstrode weren't. Unsurprisingly the complete class of Gryffindor boys were in attendance. If it wasn't for the DA last year Neville probably wouldn't have been though.

"Good. When my wand touches this rune the ritual will officially start, and you will be trapped within it. Some of you will thing you are still in this room, although that will be a lie. We have obliviated your totem, and will restore it when you awaken."

The totems were a clever attempt to treat Unleash sickness. Once you give up your control of your mind and sanity to your magic, how do you know when you are back in reality? Indred the Inductive was said to have an unfathomable fifty three chained parts of his unleash. Transitioning from one reality to the next for millenia, from realities nearly identical to our own. When he emerged the only words he spoke were these. "Fifty Four! Fifty Four times I find myself in this blasted room! And like the 3 last times I've had enough!" before killing himself.

A totem was a two sided asymmetrical puzzle. You know one side of it, and the answer, but not the second side. The second side is needed for the answer to be decoded, and can't be reproduced from the first side and the encoded answer. The second part being obliviated removed the knowledge of the second part. It means even this speech might be part of his Ritual and not to be trusted.

It wasn't even foolproof. The ritual is known to have the ability to modify your memories. So although it can't touch the obliviated part it can make you forger the first part and the answer entirely. Or worse.

Story goes Dumbledore's Unleash changed his answer, making it so when he emerged he could not trust that he wasn't still in his Unleash. That this is the reason he prefers not to think of the Unleash at all.

The easy unleashes were a month or two stay in a neighboring universe. Perhaps in one without unleashes. Or one without magic. Of course those only gave you a marginal power boost.

No, as he was Harry Potter, he expected his to be quite a series of mind fucks. Some where he knew who he was, and some where he didn't. Some where he was a hero, some where he was a villain. Some where he was fundamentally altered. Perhaps a Jedi, perhaps a girl, perhaps a Gundam pilot. Heck, even you, yes you, your life could be one of them. Wait, no, your life is to boring to be one of his.

He never expected that he would become a self-aware smartass merc with a mouth.

"Yes! Like this fic is written by a hack! And that fanfiction is a waste of time! If you are going to read something, read a book, or at least something original! And you need to spend more time outside, you seriously need Vitamin D."

=====

A/N , So basically a Deadpool is Harry is Deadpool -

"Shut up, no one reads author notes, no one. And I told you to get Outside! It's July Forth Weekend after all, go get drunk and celebrate My Country's freedom from Mine! Or maybe protest Trump. That would be good to."

I liked that. Felt very tense, except for the last bit, which feels like a drastic mood-change. If that was what you were aiming for, congrats. But .. the rest of it, has potential for a long plot.

There is really a couple of purposes for the snippet.

1) Generic Launchpad to AUs & Crossovers without going a traditional route
2) Deadpool-Potter hybrid could me amazing, definitely in the crack realm. Alternatively a bit of an inversion of the traditional "X & Y read Z" to "X knows he is in Z and it is fiction"
3) Inception at its core is fundamentally a heist film with brainfuck and some aspects of fantastical adventure. Why not have a fantastical adventure with brainfuck and some aspects of... ?
4) Generic Launchpad to create a Mass AU/Crossover. (Ick)

I have a couple of ideas on where to go next.

I really think #3 could be good, but don't have that much direction other than lets brainfuck Harry without starting to add in crossover elements.

Alternatively, maybe a bit of Edge of Tomorrow set during World War I in a world without magic?

Don't know where this goes, but maybe someone else will.

Instead of giving two feathers, Fawkes gave three, and Ollivander made the following:
- Yew and phoenix feather
- Elder and phoenix feather
- Rowan and phoenix feather

It just occurred to me that if both Harry and Neville were to be viable candidates for Trelawney's prophecy, then both needed to eventually get wands that are brothers to Voldemort's. Elder and rowan picked as substitutes for holly since both seem applicable to either one.

I'd like it more if the third (fourth?) brother wand was given to an unrelated American-born witch, or something. (Not important to the plot, not the pairing; she just happens to have a brother wand to Harry's and Voldemort's.)

Then if it's not important to the plot or the pairing, it's just a footnote and would change nothing to the story. What's the use ?

It gives the message that brother wands don't always mean something. In fact, I would love to dispense with that canon fact completely.

Third. Yew and phoenix feather, elder and phoenix feather, rowan and phoenix feather. There is no holly-and-phoenix-feather in this idea.

No. No. No. No. Not just no, but hell no. Not just hell no, but HELL NO.

To be honest, I'd sooner dispense with the whole 'brother wands' plot point. It seems to me that it was just used to save Harry's ass (arse?).

Maybe it was. But it seems to me that the easiest way to dispense with it ... is to do just that. Silently. Without a needless introduction of some unrelated character.

It's canon that Ginny and Luna played together when they were little kids. I'm wondering if the rest of the Weasley boys were even aware of Luna's existence prior to Hogwarts? Just read a fanfic where Ron helps Luna out during her first year, and it's only in the second year on the train does Ginny reprimand him that they were neighbors.

THOSE WHO SURVIVE

Headers in the Daily Prophet in the days/weeks following Halloween 1981:
He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named Falls
Neville Longbottom, The-Boy-Who-Lived
Potter Patriarch and Wife Murdered; Only Son Spared
Black Scion Convicted at Trial, Sentenced to Azkaban

So this is an idea for a story where Neville is the BWL, as above. That same night, James and Lily were murdered by one of the Death Eaters on Voldemort's orders. Harry was spared because Voldemort gave explicit instructions that he was not to be killed or even harmed at all by the DE, because Voldemort had plans for the baby once he had arrived from killing the Longbottom family.

Sirius Black tracked down Peter Pettigrew as in canon, but here he succeeds in killing Pettigrew and gets a dozen Muggles by accident. He's sentenced to a dozen years in Azkaban (ten for Pettigrew, two total for the Muggles) because it was ruled to be like a crime of passion. This is basically just a way to get him out of Harry's life before Hogwarts.

Harry goes to the Dursleys, sans Horcrux.

I'm thinking about combining this with the wand idea I had above, the one where Fawkes gave three feathers.

No further reveals at present ...

Dumb Idea:
ONLY people in a particular house can have that trait.

If you're not Gryffindor, you're cowardly
If you're not Ravenclaw, you're stupid
If you're not Hufflepuff, you're treacherous
If You're not Slytherin, you're lazy

So Gryffindors are Lazy, reacherous idiots, Hufflepuffs are cowardly lazy idiots, Ravenclaws are cowardly lazy traitors, and Slytherins are cowardly treacherous idiots.

You're right, that is a dumb idea.

Have there been any stories way after the end of Voldemort conquering Magical Britain. Curious to see what people envision his world would look like without breaking the statute of secrecy. Preferably set way after Harry and the ret of the cast have died. Mainly be a thought piece about what you wish for being different from what you want.

would be entertaining if Voldemort ended up engineering his own downfall because it all turned to ash in the end for him.

Tonight is a very rare astronomical event that has been called "super blood wolf moon".

There has to be something that can be done with that.

Sounds cute! I think I would find such a slice-of-life scene to be fun. :)

Have seen her mentally refer to her Gryffindor students as her cubs many times. Why would she not do that instead, tbh?
