Silence ruled here as it had for thousands of years. The light and warmth of the world above lost with their kin long ago. What life existed was small, scuttling and possessed a carapace, and even that moved quietly as if scared to wake the spirits of this dead place.

The first sign of change was a grinding sound that came in spurts and starts as something heavy moved.

A shaft of light, weak and small spilled from one end of the wall. The weak light illuminating a treasure trove of knowledge, of art and writing that had been perfectly preserved via means unknown to the ancient world during which theyÆd been buried. The grinding noise grew louder the light slowly growing in power and size, moving from a weak shaft to a warm flood that revealed more and more wonders of seemingly Egyptian origin, as a portion of wall rolled away.

A crash signaled the door resting in its slot and for a moment silence and light ruled together, until someone sucked in a sharp breath and stepped into the vault.

ôAstonishing.ö Keitaro whispered as he held up a glowing orb, casting more light into the room. As he stood there, orb raised to the heavens, dressed in practical clothing, he almost seemed a modern Prometheus bringing light and warmth to a dark world. He tapped the glowing sphere and hurled it up. It stopped before striking the ceiling, a miniature sun bathing the room in its rays.

A white four legged beast bound into the room, giving a bark as it sat at KeitaroÆs feet. He reached a hand down, rubbing KryptoÆs head as his eyes scanned the room, finding the marks he was looking for, the tale tall indicators that suggested these ancient people had also run into Turtle civilization, whose influence seemed to stretch across the world, before vanishing.

ôThanagarian?ö a voice asked. Keitaro turned to see Shayera stepping in after him, followed by Seta and a small team of archeologist, with Kara bringing up the rear. The Super girl staying well clear of Krypto.

Keitaro pursed his lips as he moved towards the various items, scanning them with experienced eyes ôMost certainly.ö Gloved hands gently touched an ancient medical device of Thanagarian original. ôHopefully theyÆll have a mission recorder here so we canà.ah!ö a boyish grin lit his face as he picked his way to a dais with a clear crystal floating at its center ôFound it.ö Keitaro waved some of the techs over, as Seta and his team began the long process of cataloging the find.

ôI have to thank you all for coming along.ö He smiled at his companions ôAs well as thank the Wayne Foundation for funding this expedition.ö

ôHistory is highly important.ö A new voice said, a tall well-dressed man stepping into the vault ôIf one does not know the past, then they are doomed to repeat itÆs mistakes.ö Bruce Wayne concluded.

*****

Author Notes: After playing a hand in BruceÆs safe return I figured Mr. Wayne would take an interest in KeitaroÆs work. Especially if he himself noticed that the Turtle civilization was unusually pervasive.

My Final Thoughts on Kryptonian Keitaro

Keitaro runs into Kara on Paraclease, just after he thinks heÆs failed the exam. Kara was actually just on holiday, no super heroics or anything when the two accidently cross paths. The two get to chatting and in the course of events she gives him the courage to go home and see his score. So he actually arrives at Todai just as the Hina girls make it to Paraclease in search for him.

From then on Kara and Keitaro keep in contact (E-mail/facebook/skype etc) with the Ronin unaware of her alternate life. The girls are aware heÆs made a new friend (Keitaro and Kara took a picture together before he left) and are nervous because of how pretty she is, but since sheÆs on the other side of the world they feel mostly safe. Though some of the girls begin to pursue him a bit more aggressively.

Naru: (eyes narrowing as she looks at Kara and Keitaro laughing on the beach) ôWell isnÆt she prettyà.ö (all but spitting out the last word)

Kara letÆs slip about Keitaro while at the watch tower and Batman (being paranoid) vets him. At which point he learns that someone has altered the boyÆs medical file. Which leads to the discovery that heÆs part Kryptonian.

This is when Keitaro leaves for the states and Kanako takes over the Inn. Kara is debating whether or not to tell Keitaro when fate intervenes when Clarion (bum bum buuum!) the Witch boy attacks a dig in search of an mystic device. Supergirl and Dr. Fate arrive and subdue the lad but not before Keitaro is struck by a mystical blast and buried under a rock fall, which he survives.

Thus we go from there with Keitaro slowly learning to reign in his growing abilities (with KaraÆs help) while the Hina girls work through the fact that KeitaroÆs physical therapist (hey, she needed a cover) is a leggy blond with blue eyes and a gorgeous smile.

This wonÆt end well.

It``s a real shame this hasn`t been written into a full blown story. Would have been a real blast, and even the snippets got me.

Oh, and necro, I know. Heh.

Her name was Kara, though the people of this world had taken to calling her Supergirl. She was still reeling from things she'd learned after her arrival, the loss of her home and family, the time she'd been in stasis, the revelation that her baby cousin was now older than her had all shaken her to her core. And now this obviously crazy human was trying to convince her that much of what she knew was a lie. She looked at the be speckled and earnest young man. She sighed and placed a gentle hand on his shoulders

"Look 'Keitaro' is it? I'm sorry but we've never met before." She gave his shoulder a reassuring pat. "You're obviously confused." she stopped talking, something about the way his face fell stirred something in her heart...sadness,but why?

"Please Kara you have to believe me!" he placed his hands on hers staring into her eyes "The world has changed, history has been rewritten. People we BOTH know have been lost or altered." He gripped her hand, and something about that felt familiar and welcome. "I mean I can't find any mention of Wally!"

She looked into his eyes and gave him a sad little smile, for some reason she wanted to believe him but what he was saying was simply ridiculous. "Look I believe that you believe what you are saying..."

Keitaro sighed, and stared into his eyes. "Look, I know this sounds crazy but I can prove to you that this world has been altered." He stared into her eyes, imploring her "If you'll let me." He sighed and continued on "Please, let me show you this and if you still don't believe me, I'll understand."

She should say no, she knew she should, but for some reason, she just couldn't. "All right fine, but after this I must ask that you..." she never finished as Keitaro's entire body glowed with red energy. She started to pull away but he moved much faster than she thought he could and gripped her hand....and then she saw.

*****

One vision walk later

"Kara...can't breath!"

Kara Zor'El didn't let Keitaro go, but she did ease up on the hug "I almost lost you!" wet tears ran down her cheeks as she held him. "I almost lost myself! If you hadn't...!" she choked lifting her head from his chest and staring into his eyes. "How?!"

Keitaro looked down staring out at the spot at the gran canyon. Kara had brought them here after he'd shown her the truth to talk. "Oddly enough we can thank Dakrseid for this."

Kara furrowed her brow in confusion, then realized what he was talking about. "The Omega beam!"

Keitaro nodded, "I guess something of that power lingered in the field I produce it was enough to protect me.mostly from the rewrite." His feet dangled off the edge of the rock face as he turned his gaze away. "I...I thought I was crazy for a while but...well...when I began to look into things I became more and more convinced that what I felt was true. That the world had changed and, in too many ways, for the worse."

Kara nodded, thinking of Clark and poor poor Wally. "Can you show everyone, like you did me?"

Keitaro frowned. "Maybe a few, but so far it's only worked with you and I think that's because we're so close." Kara was glad Keitaro was currently frowning in thought at the horizon. It meant he didn't see the blush on her face at that little revelation.

The two sat in silence for awhile, staring out at the natural beauty of the scene while facing the enormity of the task before them. After a moment Keiatro put his arm around Kara and pulled her close "Well I have my best friend back." He smiled at her. "And together we'll figure this out."
It needs a lot of work and you can expect a rewrite in the near future plus some more scenes...but I had to get the idea out there.

I think the whole Superman Wonder Woman thing was the final straw for me when it came to the New 52. So this would follow Keitaro and Kara's adventures as they try to fix the universe. Of course some people might need more fixing than others. Jason Todd is currently better off as he is, but Starfire needs some fixing. Also heroes like Wally West need to be rescued, and ultimatly they need to find a way to undo this mess. So she's got plenty of time to get out of the friendzone.

Also makes me wonder how much "better/worse" the Hina Girls are (are they even a factor now? :snigger: ) toward Kei.
How much did the 52'verse retcon the LH canon in Kei/Ronin's favor?

Now I really want to see a snippet with Kei experiencing the overnight changes/timewarp/confusion of the 52 "event" and eventual fast-track/re-integration into the League. ;P

Considering most of the previous snippets are pre-52, would they get massaged in as flashbacks/de-retcons/dÚja-v·/i_remember_it_this_way?

What about his developed skillset thanks to Bats, Canary and the senior Leaguers that supported him?

More importantly, what about all the young female Leaguers that were after the masterless (mistressless?) not-quite-samurai? :snigger:

i need a /shameless smiley

Well the Hina girls have been altered to resemble their anime Counterparts, so they're more violent and lose some character development in the name of slapstick comedy.....

How in the hell did I miss this for nearly a month? I was thinking of writing a few more snippets in the old universe, mostly because I hate several things about the new 52 that you have already mentioned, but that was a wonderful bridge to try to fix the mess. Actually, now that I think about it, it would be funny as hell if Keitaro's ability to bring Kara back to her senses somehow brought back Karen at the same moment.

Or it sent out a "god-wave" esque pulse that made other people close to Keitaro begin to remember. Like say... some of the women vying for his attention. Or(including) Motoko and Kanako.

Hell, I could see it as a running gag that some of the girls keep trying to get Keitaro to help wake Diana up because they find the idea of SM/WW as squick-ish as many of us do. (Although Huntress is all for it. The more Diana is messing with Clark the less she can make cow eyes at Helena's father. How can she hook her parents back up with Wondy getting in the way? And I have to admit I like the thought of the Earth 2 Huntress taking the identity of the old Huntress with nobody but Powergirl being the wiser.)

Part of me wants to do a version of Keitaro in the Flashpoint universe, as a component in a convoluted plan to resurrect Wally, but I can't see that ending well for anyone.

Also, show of hands where this could end up with Keitaro waking up Starfire only to have her channel her Teen Titans Go! version of herself? Mostly because that Starfire was hilarious.

Casandra Cain (Batgirl)... is somewhere out there, dreaming of nibbling on some Death by Chocolate Cake and dancing a mean tango in a modest tankini with a guy she doesn't know/can't remember. :snigger:

Jason> Not that I mind the costume change, it's helped a bit of our PR according to some of the Senior members in the League... but You've been acting a bit shy lately, they didn't brainwash you or anything... right?
Koriandr> *dressed somewhat conservative* compared to her usual couture* I've been doing a lot of thinking lately, and felt I needed a bit of a change of pace, which included a new wardrobe
Jason> that still does not explain the fire in your closet last week after Super Girl and her new boy toy dropped by for a visit
Koriandr> Yes, I will admit that it was quite an auspicious visit... but no, they didn't cause the incident. *blush* I had something of an accident and well...
Jason> *shrugs* whatever floats your boat...

* not stripperrific, but still superheroine hawt

It started three weeks ago. Urashima had looked so lost and afraid that Motoko was certain he had done something especially perverted and feared hers and Narusegawa's divine justice. She moved to confront him only to have him look at her with such utter desperation and... longing that she stopped short at the sight of him.

"Prepare yourself, Ronin," Motoko had cried, unsure what possessed her to refer to him by the rather derogatory nickname instead of his surname as she usually did.

Keitaro's eye's seemed to spark with an odd hope as he muttered something about the Shinigami before his body seemed to glow faintly red as he moved to gently touch her cheek.

Motoko was unsure of what he was doing, although the tender gesture had stopped her in her tracks and left her a blushing and stuttering mess as the kanrinrin muttered something about her remembering everything. Motoko was about to ask what he meant when Naru stumbled upon the scene, fumed at him "groping" her and sent him flying with a rather impressive punch that Motoko later swore Keitaro had rolled with to intentionally soften the blow.

A few days after the incident he watched Motoko with constantly fading degrees of hope in his eyes.

A week later he had called in his sister Kanako to watch the Inn while giving them all a story about needing to find an old friend that was in trouble.

Five days ago, the dreams started.

Yesterday, she referred to Kanako as Curarae-chan accidentally while the two were having a private disagreement about something or other that Motoko didn't even remember as Kanako called her "Shinigami-sama" with such sarcastic arrogance that it made Motoko grit her teeth until both stopped short and realized what they had said. Both had walked off without a word.

Today, the dam seemed to break behind her eyes as she remembered her dreams with a frightening clarity that morning.

"Do you think Onii-chan went to her?" a voice asked from the shadows of Motoko's seemingly empty room.

"Whatever he did seemed temporarily ineffective with us. Narusegawa would not have aided him even if it worked. Mitsune-sempai no longer has her international connections as an up and coming freelance reporter. Where else could he go?" Motoko asked with a pained voice.

"How long did it take for you?" Kanako asked, stepping out of the room to reveal she was dressed in an improvised version of her uniform, sans mask.

"A few weeks. It seemed to finally click into place today. Things he said before doing whatever he did to free me from this mental spell. I was considering asking my sister about it. The more advanced in the School and their allies have access to magicks that might have shielded them as Keitaro-sempai must have been shielded by his abilities," Motoko admitted.

"It took me about a week and a half," Kanako admitted with just a tiny bit of pride before her face fell into her usual somber expression. "Of course, given our luck, Kara will wake up immediately, or he'll run into the hussies that always chase after him."

"At least Supergirl will watch out for him. She might have the best chance of being freed immediately given their similar species," Motoko protested as she fought the knot in her stomach at the thought of Keitaro and Kara traveling the world together thinking they were the only two that understood what was going on. That kind of closeness could forge bonds that... no. Now was not the time to think about it.

"Whatever it is, it appears to be worldwide. My contacts with the Outsiders no longer exist, and it appears that even Batman and his family are affected. From my best observations, I would say that the "Red Robin" is the Robin Onii-chan was friends with. And there is no sign I can immediately find of our Batgirl. If anything, it looks like the original has retaken the mantle given her red hair and body frame," Kanako reported.

"We should try to contact him. He will need our help," Motoko said after a moment.

Kanako shook her head sadly as she asked, "With what? His non-existent League communicator? Keitaro doesn't need to leave a paper trail to move around if he chooses to fly. And it's not like I can look for Kara's phone number, if she even has a phone given how recent the news has said the debut of Supergirl was, and assume she knows anything about what we're talking about. Onii-chan thinks we're innocent civilians again. He won't risk contacting us until this mess is fixed."

"We could try to be seen in uniform here. When news reports start picking up he would come to check on us," Motoko suggested.

Kanako pondered the suggestion before shaking her head. "Too risky. We lack our entire support network here for now. Even this version of my uniform is more for my own comfort. It's not like I could ask Batman's contacts to manufacture me a proper one with my usual kevlar-Nomex weave."

"How long do we wait?" Motoko asked, thrown off balance at the thought of Kanako being the voice of reason where Keitaro was concerned.

"Until news reports about Ronin start. If they settle into a single area, or include anyone but Supergirl, we move immediately. If not, I'll try to find a more subtle way to contact Onii-chan," Kanako suggested.

"Agreed, for now. I will still contact my sister and start making subtle inquiries. If we can ferret out the cause of this mess, we can get back to normal that much sooner," Motoko replied.

With that Kanako gave her friendly rival a small smile before fading back into the shadows and seeming to disappear from the room.

"Insufferable ninja girl," Motoko snarked to the seemingly empty room.

"Pompous samurai," Kanako's voice whispered back from seemingly nowhere before the room faded back into silence.

Gold Sir! GOLD!

Love how Keitaro's mood seemed to start clicking with the girls. Even before he found out how to get their memories back... it's like he's calling to them.

Their fears and insecurities (toward the Young Ladies of the League) seem to be a sore point about them... maybe they will have an upper hand in their quest to catch the Ronin this time around ;)

Hope to see more snippets like this from you and Ordo.

Well... since everyone is in a sharing mood... and sorry in advance for the bad writing style :p

It was a very familiar and comfortable setting that saw Keitaro Urashima wake up one Wednesday morning. A nice comfy futon kept him warm and toasty as his brain slowly filtered out his thoughts while he delayed opening his eyes and greet the first rays of sunshine.

An old wooden ceiling loomed over him reminding him that he was back home at the Hinata Dorm. The very conspicuous hole that led to a room above him, and one of his beloved friends, hovered about a meter to the left of his bedding.

"Odd, I could have sworn I fell asleep at theà Watchtower?" he murmured to himself slightly confused as he sat up slowly, trying to get a feel for his muscles.

As he got up and stretched, his most recent memories seemed to poke at him from the back of his mind, they felt the need go against everything his senses told him about his current situation. From the looks of things, he was aware that he was back home at Hinata City, Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan.

But something just didn't seem to fit, as random names and faces came up to the forefront momentarily then disappearing. They teased his curious and not-so recently developed investigative sense, as if they were lost memories suddenly appearing from thin air, something about appointments to attend events in cities half way across the world which seemed to haunt him.

One memory in particular, a very pretty young lady with long blonde hair a winning smile came to mind, making him shake his head and grin playfully.

"Maybe she does have a point about all the time I spend cooped up going over old texts and reference material," after dressing up in sweats, he walked out of his room and leaving the quiet Inn for a light jog "time to get some fresh air and a little exercise."

Running around town had felt like second nature to him, although he was curious that he wasn't feeling winded or challenged every time he sped up or tackled certain steep hills and long stairwells. After the thirty minute mark he had started running on fences, skipping handrails, going over walls; in essence attempting odd stunts he would normally attribute to parkour enthusiasts.

He slowed down to a brisk walk as he neared the local shops and small business area, as part of his recent routine, he waved to and greeted most of the owners and morning staffers of said establishments. Some of older folk stopped him for a little smalltalk about the daily specials, some teased him about his cute tenants, while a few of the younger ladies asked him for help with a heavy crate or some such activity; his ever helpful nature obliged them, although he would take a rain check on the discount offers or subtle invites for breakfast.

After his impromptu voluntary part-time job session, he walked through a couple of shopping arcades. He waved courteously to a couple of on duty patrol officers, one of them teased him and reminded him that next time he should call for back up before æthrowing out the trashÆ, while his partner made a gesture that read æignore him, we owe you oneÆ behind the first oneÆs back.

He started running again and increased his pace on the way back home, ôitÆs ShinobuÆs turn to cook breakfast today and it would be bad if I missed it!ö

-=-=-=-=-

The girls had been on pins and needles lately, as he had yet to have an accident involving any of them for the past two weeks and Naru was looking primed and ready to punish him for the most minimal infraction.

It had taken a while for the girls to settle down the other night, as a pair of officers escorted Keitaro home. He had been at the wrong place and the wrong time; but for once he was compelled to do his civic duty by helping apprehend a group of hoodlums. He hadnÆt meant to play Hero, and the girls still thought that the Police had brought the Manager home to get punished; until Motoko stood up among her peers and volunteered some unexpected testimony.

She had been walking though the vicinity on her way home from school and saw a group of thugs ganging up on somebody, normally her sense of justice would have told her to attempted to help the poor soul; but she was stopped and politely surprised when said victim slowly took apart and disabled his attackers quickly, efficiently and without resorting to bloodshed.

The arrival of the officers on scene had been her queue to head home. While a bit miffed that she would not be the one dispensing justice, she spared a look back to the non-descript victim-turned-hero and was immediately flabbergasted.

'That was Keitaro???' She thought to herself, taking a moment to compose herself then resolving to speak with the usually mild mannered manager once they could have a private moment, 'I WILL find out the extent of his abilities and obligate him to train with me.'

The weak light illuminating a treasure trove of knowledge, of art and writing that had been perfectly preserved via means unknown to the ancient world during which theyÆd been buried. The grinding noise grew louder the light slowly growing in power and size, moving from a weak shaft to a warm flood that revealed more and more wonders as a portion of wall rolled away.

His eyes scanned the room, finding the marks he was looking for. He moved towards them, as another person entered the sanctuary.

Eyes alien to earth gazed about the room, not looking at the objects it contained so much as how it was constructed. After a moment Kara ZorÆElÆs eyes widened ôThisàis this what I think it is?ö

Keitaro looked up from his examinations and smiled ôI was close to finding this place beforeà.the change.ö His smile faltered a bit at that admission but he continued on. ôEver since you all revealed to me my Kryptonian heritage IÆve been trying to figure out how and when my ancestor arrived on earth.ö Keitaro straightened up. ôIt took a lot of digging through family records and then a fair amount of cross referencing butàwell this place supposedly contains the æTabletÆ that allowed my ancestor to come here.ö

KaraÆs eyes swung about the room as her friend moved to another wall. ôButà.this architecture isnÆt Kryptonianà.ö She stopped talking as Keitaro depressed something in the wall and ancient engines far beyond the capabilities of man powered up.

ôNoàö he agreed as light seemed to flow from the walls itself ôThis place is based off the artistic sensibilities of New Genesis.ö He raised his hand and the glow globe returned to his outstretched fingers. Kara pursed her lips as a panel formed on a pedestal towards the center of the room. ôI think my ancestors accompanied the New Gods at some point and if I am rightà..and perhaps luckyàö she watched holding her breath as Keitaro placed his hand on the panel and the room seemed to glow with an accepting warmth as walls slide aside revealing corridors suggesting a much larger complex than sheÆd first thought.

Normally she knew Keitaro would be eager to explore this find, but she suspected the device he was now lifting from the pedestal was the reason theyÆd come. ôA mother box.ö KaraÆs brows furrowed as a thought occurred to her ôKeitaroà.just WHERE are you planning on going?ö

KeitaroÆs sudden hesitation had the daughter of house ZorÆelÆs eyes narrowing. ôWellà.the only place I can think of that might give us some clues as to whatÆs happenedà..the Source wall.ö

*******

Keitaro turned off his lap top and sat back in his seat. HeÆd just finished a Skype session with the girls at the Hina Inn. ItÆd been a week since he and Kara had found the mother box, and three days since heÆd managed to convince Kara that going to the Source wall was their best bet. He glanced over at his best friend who was currently checking over there equipment once again. ôI thinkà.ö He began catching her attention ôThat My sister and Motoko mightàremember.ö

Kara nodded as she ran another check on the mother box and seemed almost disappointed when it came back nominal. ôWhat makes you say that?ö Kara obviously wasnÆt happy about this idea, at all but after days of arguing about it sheÆd been forced to agree to the plan. Still Keitaro had the distinct impression sheÆd abandon this current enterprise in a heartbeat if given a reason.

Keitaro stood stretching. ôI think they were trying to drop hints during the Skype call but didnÆt want too say too much in front of the others.ö He rolled his left shoulder working out the kinks. ôItÆ just a feeling though.ö

Kara sighed and finally turned to look at him. ôI think youÆre right.ö When he tilted his head quizzically at her She favored him with a smile ôWomanÆs intuition.ö She teased as she tapped her ears.

The two shared a brief chuckle. Then lapsed back to work, checking over their gear, making sure that nothing would fail them during the trip. ôKaraàö Keitaro began ôAre we good?ö

Kara sighed and stared at the mother box, almost seeming to blame the device for her current situation, when she did look up at Keitaro she gave him a quick grin. ôWeÆre good.ö

*****

Keitaro had heard stories of the Source wall, talking with Clarke about it a few times but nothing couldÆve prepared him for the reality of it. For a moment he and Kara were both struck dumb at the sight. Not just at the size and grandeur but at those imprisoned. Here were the monstrous, the adventurous and the incautious sealed within the wall as punishment for Hubris. Now more than ever Kara had to resist the urge to grab Keitaro and drag him back through the Boomtube to find another way to do this. Her gut telling her this was far too dangerous a place for him.

She barely kept herself from doing just that, a decision she regretted a moment later.

ôCassandra!ö Kara whipped her head to the side to find Keitaro moving at full boost towards the wall. Then she saw the reason why, sealed in the wall, arm outstretched was Cassandra Cain. Kara looked on in horror as her eyes saw other friends sealed nearby the former batgirl. Greta Hayes, Donna Troy and even Wally West. All of them stuck fast within the wall.

ôKeitaroàdonÆt!ö Super girl poured on the speed her momentary shock and horror having cost her precious seconds as her big stupid idiot of a friend moved to save someone he cared about.

It was close but she proved faster, snatching him by the leg before his fingers could grasp CassandraÆs hand ôYou idiot do you want to get stuckàö but not before his aura brushed across the girls fingers. KaraÆs jaw dropped as that energy spilled into the wall spreading throughout it, seeming to be magnified by it. She yanked Keitaro close to her pulling him into her arms. His aura enveloping them both as the now red energy played across the wall and itÆs prisoners, before erupting out in a wave at superluminal speeds.

*****

Motoko and Kanako both shared a look as Naru muttered darkly about their manager. ôOf all the inconsiderate and selfish things he could doà.!ö Kanako rolled her eyes and mouthedá æSomethings never changeÆ to which Motoko chuckled. Then the two froze as something in the universe seemed to shift, as if reality itself shuddered.

ôàand I bet he ran off with that blonde Kryptonian hussy! I swear I have half a mind to track him down andàö

KanakoÆs head snapped around ôNaruà.what did you say?ö

Naru blinked in confusion ôI said I bet Keitaro ran off with some floozy.ö She replied. Samurai and Ninja shared another look before Kanako went on ôàreallyàI thought you said something about a blonde?ö she pressed.

NaruÆs brow furrowed further. ôWellàmaybe I meanàguys like blondeà.ö She huffed ôAnd Keitaro is just another GUY.ö

*****

Dinah Lance sighed, leaning back in her seat, her fingers rubbing her temples as she considered the trouble her team was causing her ôI swearàthis just isnÆt as much fun anymoreànot without Keitaro to liven things up.ö She smiled at the memory of Keitaro falling face first into power girls chestà.and then there was the timeà.

She sat bolt upright, the memories fleeing her mind even as she reached out for them, snatching at them with sudden desperation. She snatched a pen from the desk and wrote on a scrap of paper. A moment later she was blinking in confusion, trying to figure out why sheÆd written the nameá æKeitaroÆ.

*****

Time Drake hit æreplayÆ again on his personal log, a chill running down his spine as he heard himself speak ôNOWHERE appears very interested in these ancient artifacts. Sadly I have yet to determine why that is. I am working every source I have but this was really KeitaroÆs field of expertise. I certainly could use his insight right now. Hmmm perhaps if I contact the Urashimaà.ö

He turned off the recording. Part of him wanted to keep working on the artifacts, in fact something seemed to insist that this recording he had made moments ago in which he mentions a person heÆs never met and references an event he can not recall was totally irrelevant to his current situation.

He ignored that voice and focused on what he was now sure was the more important concern. æWho is Urashima Keitaro?

****

The first sight Keitaro awoke to was Kara standing over his bed, looking like she was trying to decide whether to hug or strangle him. ôIàahàmay have acted rashly.ö He admitted groaning as he sat up. A slim powerful hand immediately went to his chest and he turned, finding himself staring into the reproving face of Cassandra Cain, while behind her Greta waffled between joy and concern.

Before he could speak another voice interrupted ôYou did, but no harm no foul and in the end it worked out for the best.ö Kara turned, glaring at the red headed speedster as he leaned against the wall, idly munching an apple, Donna troy at his side.
(all right all IÆve got for now)

à..well okay one more snippet.
Keitaro was still a tad groggy so when he opened his eyes and noticed blonde hairá he sat up ôKara Iàö and immediately found his head grabbed in strong hands and a blonde woman who wasnÆt Kara sticking her tongue down his throat. ôMmmmPH!ö

ôKaren!ö KeitaroÆs eyes flicked to the side, seeing Kara, Cassandra, and Greta glaring murder at the powerful girl currently cleaning his tonsils. Karen Starr broke the kiss and cuddled KeitaroÆs head to her chest ôWhatàIÆm just thanking MY Hero for waking me.ö She grinned kissing his cheek as Keitaro gasped for air. ôNow leave, I have more æThankingÆá to doàö
Yeah that parts non-cannon but it was fun to write.

Now for the bad news.....Keitaro's little trip didn't just free Wally West and Co.....it also released some villains who will be eager to take advantage of the situation.

Very nice addition, Ordo. I never even would have thought of the Source Wall given the danger it represents. I mean a version of freaking Galactus is sealed in the thing. And now Keitaro and Kara have a mini-league to help with the crisis. Still I don't think Kara will be overly thrilled with the change in group dynamics.

Keitaro and Kara took the newly released heroes back to somewhere that they could recover in peace as the group planned out its next moves. In this case that happened to be a small and uninhabited island Keitaro had discovered while flying to Parakelse Island to visit his friend Nyamo before "The Event." Keitaro found the remains of a small Turtle Civilization settlement there but nothing of really historical value. At Kara's urgings, and with Bruce's help, he had claimed the island legally for himself after the archeological artifacts had been cataloged. Within a year a modest (for someone that knew Bruce Wayne) three bedroom retreat with all the toys a reserve league member might need to stay connected to the world had been built.

Needless to say, Keitaro was still a little disappointed when he first came there and his home away from home was gone. But he had come to enjoy living off the land in the tents he used on digs and had stored them on his island after "The Event."

Now the entire group was living in those tents, easily enough to accommodate a group twice their number as Keitaro and Kara filled them in on what was taking place.

"My Sister and Clark?" Donna asked with something that bordered between shock and horror.

Kara nodded with a bit of a green complexion as she explained, "Some things seen at a distance with X-Ray vision cannot be unseen." She would be much more careful checking up on her cousin in the future.

"Whoo, Bats ain't gonna like that one when he wakes up," Wally muttered under his breath where he stood at the mouth of the tent, dividing his attention between Kara and Donna within, and Keitaro, Secret, and Batgirl discussing things on the beach as they gathered firewood.

"I'd be more worried for whoever caused this mess when Diana wakes up. She does not like her mind being messed with. Especially where her love life is concerned," Donna retorted, refusing to comment on the frustrating will they/won't they dance Bruce and Diana liked to engage in. "So, what else?" Donna asked.

"Keitaro thinks Curarae and Shinigami regained their memories too. They were in civilian ID when he talked to them and they weren't free to talk but I agree with him. He tried the same trick he used on me with them first and initially it didn't stick. Looks like it just took time to overcome whatever caused the alteration of their minds. Oh, and Karen seems to have developed a sense of modesty judging by her new uniform," Kara reported.

"Noooooo!" Wally howled in despair as as he fell to his knees and Donna and Kara glared at him in unison.

"I am so telling Linda once this mess is straightened out," Donna sniffed with a roll of her eyes.

With her threat delivered Wally decided it was time to get out of Dodge as he moved to help the others gather firewood and supplies. "Hey Keitaro, you must be bummed at the lack of your Beach House of Solitude," he said be way of introduction as he moved off into the distance.

"Well now that he's gone, how are thing with you and Keitaro?" Donna asked once the Scarlet Speedster had left, her voice dropping into the hushed tones of one looking for juicy gossip.

Kara rolled her eyes even as she blushed as she snapped, "Donna, don't start."

"Oh come on," Donna wheedled. "You've been with him. Alone. For weeks. You're telling me you haven't felt any kind of spark?"

"I don't want to discuss this with you, Donna," Kara shot back with a sniff. "But is has been... nice." Kara admitted as much to herself as her friend. "If nothing else it got him away from that Narusegawa psycho he's so stuck on. From what he said she seems even WORSE than normal here," she admitted through gritted teeth.

"Well maybe if you gave him a more serious option you could free him from her. I mean we both know that the second they all attended Todai together the letter of Keitaro's promise was fulfilled. He's technically free game now," Donna replied, her voice raising into a sing-song lilt at the end. "And the playing field isn't quite as empty as it was, either," she added seriously with a look out toward the beach where Wally was laughing as Keitaro had a(faked to entertain everybody really) power malfunction and had a log stuck to his back while Cassandra laughed and poked his head as Greta hovered around him.

"Look, I don't know what you want me to say, alright. I still have enough recollection of the other me that it buried whatever bad blood was left with that ass Powerboy and being with Keitaro every day has been wonderful. But it's not like we've been sucking face and trying to restart the Kryptonian race. We just spend time together like always. And it's been... good," Kara shot back with a tiny grin.

"Kara, could you picture yourself with him? Really with him?" Donna asked seriously.

"Yes. No. I don't know. Maybe?" Kara waffled.

"Okay, now can you picture yourself without him? Because that's what would happen with that Naru girl and we both know it. Anyone else could handle your friendship but her. Even Curarae and Shinigami would rather have you in his life than not because you make him happy. The big question is, can you make EACH OTHER happy? So, can you?" Donna pressed.

Kara thought of a dream where she and Keitaro flew off together, married. She touched her lips tenderly as she remembered that kiss in the dream. It had been soft and sweet and perfect. A very Keitaro kiss. "No. I can't picture my life without him. But I don't want to risk losing his friendship either," she admitted.

Donna rolled her eyes as she replied, "Yes. Because I totally cut Roy out of my life after we stopped dating. It's not like he's still one of my closest friends. Oh, wait. Yes, he is. That's an excuse Kara. Not a reason. What, are you not attracted to him physically?"

"No, Keitaro is very attractive," Kara admitted.

"So you like him on a physical level, you love him on a personal level, and you've proven you can spend weeks together with each other and be happy rather than driving each other crazy. Frankly I'm disappointed you haven't dragged him to Vegas and got yourselves hitched yet. Hera knows most of the others would have pounced on the opportunity," Donna commented as she idly hoped for Cassie's sake, Wondergirl and not Batgirl, that Kon was here too as he wasn't in the Source Wall that they could see. In the end she did pick Kon after the mess with Blackest Night was settled, after all.

"I think you might be jumping the gun a bit there Donna," Kara snapped, her face aflame at the comment. Damned dreams.

"Maybe. But let's face it, the clock is ticking. Right now all Batgirl and Secret have in the world is here on the island with us. Do you think they'll wait because you can't get your head around what you want? You need to decide one way or another before Cassandra decides to take Fire's advice. Dragging your feet is pretty silly when you can fly, Kara," Donna advised before heading out to let let Supergirl think over her words. She had said her piece. The rest of up to Kara.

Needless to say, Supergirl was more quiet than normal for the rest of the day as she mulled over Donna's words.

"Robin," Kanako declared evenly to her seemingly empty room a week or so after her last contact with Onni-chan (and the strange wave that seemed to reassert things for a moment).

"Red Robin, actually, Urashima-san," Tim corrected her as he stepped out of the shadows.

"I suppose it is," Kanako replied cryptically with a sidelong glance at the costumed hero.

"Do you know why I'm here?" Red Robin pressed when it became clear Kanako was not going to say anything else.

"Do you?" Kanako challenged with a small smile.

"Where is your brother?" Red Robin asked in a low tone that bordered on threatening.

Probably flying around looking for trouble with Kara while he tries to fix this mess, Kanako thought to herself. "He's currently on an expedition," she chose to say instead.

"And where would that be?" Red Robin asked with narrowed eyes.

"If I knew that I would be with him," Kanako admitted.

"And what would you know about a strange anomaly last week that might be related to your brother?" Tim asked.

"I don't know a thing about it. All I do know is that Onii-chan is with a friend he trusts. And that wherever he is he's trying to do the right thing," Kanako affirmed.

"Right for who?" Robin asked.

"Everyone. There was a time when you knew that," Kanako replied with a diminutive snort.

"And when was this?" Red Robin asked, his head fuzzy for a moment. He could swear he could see Keitaro in one of the secondary Caves with Tim himself pouring over texts about... historical bat references? But he was in Damien's suit without the stupid cloak. What?

"I wish I knew. Everything is changed and I don't know how or why. You would be better off researching the change itself. Sooner or later you'll run into Onii-chan that way. And whatever allies he's managed to pick up along the way," Kanako advised him.

"You're awfully good a being cryptic," Red Robin commented after a pause.

"I learned from some of the best," Kanako assured him.

"So did I," Tim responded.

"Exactly," Kanako replied with a smile that reminded him all too much of Selina when she had Bruce trapped and all to herself. Only a feline could look so satisfied with herself.

TimxKanako? 'ala BrucexSelina... I oddly approve of this (not so probable) ship.

Now I wonder... how many leaguers are going to believe Ronin and his cadre of misplaced heroes (and the few hawt young'ins after him) think he may be trying some "villanous plot" only to be proved dead wrong.

"Your skills have improved remarkably, Motoko-chan," Tsuruko complimented her sister as their blades clashed. It had been decided after Keitaro made contact and what Motoko thought of as the "Moment of Clarity" occurred that it would be best for her to return to Kyoto to converse with her sister and the Clan Elders.

Needless to say they would need more than just hearsay and hunches to believe that reality itself had been altered on a planetary, if not greater, scale. And so it was that Motoko Aoyama, aka Shinigami, found herself demonstrating several advanced forms of the Aoyama arts that she had not been taught in the current timeline. It was certainly enough to get the Elders into a tizzy as they conversed with the various mages and devil hunters connected to the Clan to try to divine what was going on.

It also offered Motoko the opportunity to spar a bit with her sister and sharpen her skills while Kanako continued her research from the Hinata-Sou. "I had good incentive," Motoko admitted before leaping back a bit to separate herself from her elder sister and take stock of her position in the training area.

"Indeed. I must wonder what exactly I did to motivate you in the original timeline you described?" Tsuruko asked serenely.

Motoko smiled wryly as she replied "Not a thing, ane-ue. I'm afraid I had deeper motivations to improve myself at the time," Before charging in with another attack.

"I suppose so. You seem to have matured greatly overnight. I'm sure Manager-san greatly appreciated the efforts," Tsuruko responded with a tone of voice bordering on a leer.

That comment caused Motoko to stumble a bit as he face lit up in a wash of red. "Ane-ue! I was doing nothing of the sort with Kei-er Urashima-sempai," Motoko hotly denied.

"But not for a lack of trying ne, imouto-chan?" Tsuruko teased.

"It would have been easier without the number of women desiring him doubling on me when he discovered his abilities," Motoko groused to herself. For some reason she felt far more threatened by Kara's place in Keitaro's life that Kanako ever did. There were moments when she got the distinct impression the ninja-girl liked to leave Motoko twisting in the wind about the blond Kryptonian.

"Oh my, that would be a problem. It seems Urashima-san developed into a quite a manly specimen on you. Was that why you worked so hard? To gain his favor over your rivals?" The elder Aoyama teased, only to stop short at the haunted look in Motoko's eyes.

"No," Motoko replied curtly, her mind awash with the aftermath of Keitaro's various super-heroic scraps, the ambush by Darkseid in particular.

"Motoko?" Tsuruko asked, as she lowered her sword and took a step toward her little sister.

"Keitaro inadvertently made himself a target to beings as bad and worse than those we are trained to battle sister. Beings of unimaginable power and malevolence. And being who he is, he could not walk away from the fight and allow innocents to suffer. I will not, can not allow him to face those trials alone. I will be there for him as a friend and an ally, no matter what. I will remain at his side to protect him where I can, just as he would protect me," Motoko swore.

"You really did go and grow up on me, didn't you?" Tsuruko asked.

"I suppose it was inevitable," Motoko shrugged before she raised her blade back into a ready position.

The sword-wielding duo traded another couple of flurries before Tsuruko's eyes flashed with mischief again as she asked, "So, would you mind if Mother tried to arrange an omiai with the Urashima family? It might help you get a leg up on the competition."

Motoko allowed herself to fantasize about the possibility for a moment, right until she got to the point where Kanako snuck into her room and smothered her in her sleep the day before the wedding and replaced her in the ceremony. "I appreciate the thought, but I doubt Granny Hina, as Clan Head, would approve. Besides, Keitaro needs to make his own choices. I need to accept that," she answered.

You have grown into a fine young woman indeed, little sister. I just hope you manage to find the happiness to go with your apparently hard won maturity, Tsuruko thought as the pair continued their match.

I ship Bruce/Tsuruko, because it was pulled off quite well in this thread. Too bad it died.

I can't believe I missed this as well! I'm here almost daily and the few days I don't check back, all this pops up? Very very nice guys! Hoping for more... Oh and I go for Bruce/Tsuruko as well, just cause it seemed so well put together.
