I think we already stated that Motoko's going to be drafted. They aren't in the Arkham Asylum snippet because Keitaro was in Gotham on business, and they weren't with him.
And why isn't Naru eligible for drafting, since with the proper training she would make a decent street level crimefighter and use her Naru punches for something else for a change?

Because Kanako's the one doing the drafting. Remember Batman came to Kanak0 because of her talents and as a way to keep her in line (keep your friends close...). Kanako will eventually decide that her brother needs someone else watching his back as she can't be there all the time. Since she dosen't have time to train Naru, and since the rest of the league wouldn't really trust the girl anyways (Not after the things Supergirl has said, and after reading between the lines of what Keitaro said) Motoko makes more sense to her.

Or that you're letting your very apparent anti-Naru bias relegate her to the background and drop any attempts at character progression and forgetting that the League would have reasons to distrust Kanako as well considering what she was capable of in the manga. If any League members catches Kanako in an anti-Naru divide-and-conquer-scheme-through-disguise or apparently letting Naru drop to her death, they're opinion of Kanako would be lowered and some of them would see Naru in a different light. Or just let Naru prove herself in an incident where Motoko and Kanako are taken out and she solves it by remaining calm and using her wits.

Telepaths like Martian Manhunter could take a sneak peek into Naru's thoughts and see that she's as conflicted between Keitaro and Seta like Keitaro was conflicted between Naru and Mutsumi.

You're also forgetting that earlier on, I had planned to give Naru and most of the girls powers before backing off that idea when it became apparent that I was putting to many elements into the story. Kanako was chosen because her ninja like skills are similar to those used by the Bat and she works as a point of contact. Motoko is nearly ready to work as a reservist league memeber, if she can just work on her attitude and conflict over Keitaro.

I don't want more than two of the Hina girls going towards the super hero side of things, and Naru's character works better if she tries to get Keitaro to stop being a superhero and settle down at her side. It creates a fun conflict to explore because Keitaro still loves her, but he feels he owes the league, even if he's normaly only working as a reservist/informations specialist.

Yes, I don't like Naru, but that doesn't mean I don't have other reasons for her current placement in the story.

I haven't written much about her, or any of the Hina girls because I currently have more fun writing about Keitaro's interaction with the League. What scens I have written with her are intended to show that she's worried about Keitaro, in her own way.

While you're neglecting the transparent as glass fact that DC characters don't need powers to be great heroes or scary as hell villains and that Naru, Motoko and Kanako's skills can be enough to get things done. Or that Motoko gets into a catfight over Keitaro due to the manipulations of a villain who gives her a kryptonite-alloy sword and other countermeasures against the JLA.

And why not expanding your minimum to just simply three then? Or that Naru if she can't convince Keitaro tries to stand by his side at the best of her ability, even though she knows what the consequences might be? Being wishy-washy about joining or standing on the sidelines would fit her in certain situations.

So then why aren't you arguing for Kitsune or Kaolla to get in on the act. Kitsune would enjoy having 'the most common super power' and is smart enough to be a threat. Su has the super science skills. Why are you leaving them out?

I also note that you skipped over the part where I said Kanako drafted Motoko. Of all the girls at the Hina Inn, if Kanako had to pick someone to work with, Motoko appears to be at the top of the list.

Finally, I said two and I'm sticking to it, especially since Kaolla might be a quasi super-villain. (it's hard to tell if she's serious or just playing). Since Kanako is the one doing the drafting she'd pick the girl who needs the least amount of training and is someone she can work with, that's Moko.

As for Naru standing at his side, MJ does that for Peter, dosen't mean she stuffs herself into a costume and fights crime with him.

And why didn't you do so earlier, I may ask? And doesn't Mitsune seem more like an information broker working in the background instead of working in the field and that you said "no powers"? And isn't Kaolla Su too amoral and as you said yourself more of a "quasi super-villain" since she did kidnap those who thought of her as a friend and who they could trust against their will to Molmol and tried to force Keitaro against his will into polygamous marriage, even though he treated her as a friend, and later didn't bat an eyelid as she let her goons open fire on an unarmed plane with Seta and some of the gang who escaped in it?

And Kanako has strong anti-Naru bias, I might add, even though she would most likely develop a strong bias against anyone who is the closest to her stepbrother, and that she's capable of working with those she has the least biases towards, even though she might turn on them if they become the closest to Keitaro, like trying to blow up another building.

And as transparent as glass you neglected to mention Lois Lane who has done some impressive feats herself even though she's no Silk Spectre II or without powers, funny that.

For similar reasons as to why Naru hasn't been groomed in that direction. I don't feel that having them join in the fight would fit the story. I've written Keitaro action scenes but those aren't going to be as common in the full story, if I ever get around to it. Keitaro is the Leagues expert on history as shown when he helped Tim with his research into Batman's disappearance. That is Keitaro's most common role when working for the League. He won't stand aside and let innocents be hurt but he's not activly looking for criminals either.

However, in a crisis he can and will provide aid.

And Kanako has strong anti-Naru bias,
Right, which is why she didn't ask Naru to join her in watching her brothers back. It would appear that I got Kanako's characterization right.

And as transparent as glass you neglected to mention Lois Lane who has done some impressive feats herself even though she's no Silk Spectre II or without powers, funny that.
So has Batman, who features alot in this story. I'm aware that regulare people can do amazing things, I just don't see why that means I have to make Naru a superhero.

Keitaro is involved with the League because of his heritage, a question he desperatly wants to answer, and because he feels he owes them for helping him learn to master himself. Kanako helps her brother, and Batman uses that bond to watch someone whose dangerous but has potential if guided correctly. Motoko is chosen by Kanako to help her brother whenever he runs off to save someone while in Japan, or to deal with mystic threats. That's Motokos introduction to the league. When they learn about her, that her sword style is made to fight demons they determine that as useful to their cause. Thus she's (and her sister) are offered reservists spots because of their link to Keitaro.

Could they train Naru, sure but why would they, and would she want to be trained? And before you say she'd do it for Keitaro, this is a woman who twice ran out on him after he confessed. The second time she threatened to throw herself off a cliff rather than say she loved him. She's so twisted up about this that she'd say no just to show Keitaro that she disproved, and possible regret it much later.

Edit: Look if you want that Naru/Motoko ultimate showdown you mention in the idea thread, I'll tell you right now, it's unlikely to happen here.

Which I believe all three girl Naru, Motoko and Kanako are capable of as well when things turn rough.

Right, which is why she didn't ask Naru to join her in watching her brothers back. It would appear that I got Kanako's characterization right.
Highly possible that, but isn't anyone aware of her bias?

Due to your own biases it seems.

Kanako helps her brother, and Batman uses that bond to watch someone whose dangerous but has potential if guided correctly. He did the same with Jason Todd and Huntress and you know what happened with him and how it affected Bruce and the others who donned the mantle of Robin and that Huntress decided to go solo after disagreements during No Man's Land. And what if the League learns how she treated Keitaro and used her sword style on him, wouldn't that make it questionable to make her a reservist member?

Could they train Naru, sure but why would they, and would she want to be trained? And before you say she'd do it for Keitaro, this is a woman who twice ran out on him after he confessed.
To better protect herself and her friends from threats who decide to go after her to get to Keitaro, knowing how people close to the JLA can become easy targets. Getting bested and humiliated by a street level DC villain and saved in the nick of time as the villains go after her friends might convince her to up her skill and strength to Seta's level. And she did go after him and bring him back after he ran away thinking he had failed the entry exam to Tokyo U in case you haven't forgotten.

Edit: Look if you want that Naru/Motoko ultimate showdown you mention in the idea thread, I'll tell you right now, it's unlikely to happen here.
I didn't mention it here and didn't have any intentions to do so, so that insinuation and bold accusation falls quite flat on its back actually.

Yes, for reasons I've already stated so I won't go into them again here.

Highly possible that, but isn't anyone aware of her bias?
Just because she's biased dosen't mean her choice is incorrect. Between Naru and Motoko, I think most people would pick Mokoto to back them up in a fight. Besides I never said she got League approval. I said Kanako picked someone to help her watch her brothers back. The league is aware of this after the fact, and eventually offers Motoko and her school a spot as 'specialists' for certain problems.

I'm aware that regulare people can do amazing things, I just don't see why that means I have to make Naru a superhero.
Due to your own biases it seems.
You have yet to provide a reason that I should have Kanako choose Naru over Motoko in this story. You have yet to provide a compelling reason for Naru to petition the League or anyone else for training that fits what I've seen of her character. You have yet to provide a reason for them to train her. As you said Lois Lanes been doing just fine without League training.

He did the same with Jason Todd and Huntress and you know what happened with him and how it affected Bruce
And he's doing it again with Damian Wayne, and previously with Cassandra aka Batgirl. Batman seems determined to help those kinds of cases in his own way.

what if the League learns how she treated Keitaro and used her sword style on him, wouldn't that make it questionable to make her a reservist member?
Motoko becoming a reservist dosen't happen for sometime in the story. By then she's past the whole attack Keitaro thing and is into her dere mode when it comes to him. Besides as I said, her sister is tapped to be a reservist, and is actually asked first since she's pretty much skilled enough to provide the help they require. However, Motoko is really only helping Kanako to watch out for Keitaro at that point.

Edit: Look if you want that Naru/Motoko ultimate showdown you mention in the idea thread, I'll tell you right now, it's unlikely to happen here.

Withdrawn then, however I'm not sure why you continue to argue for Naru to become a superhero when I've already explained the situation. I have zero desire to have more than two Hina girls aid Keitaro whenever he does get into a fight. Out of the entire Hina household Kanako and Motoko are the two who'd need the least amount of time training to be at a point to aid 'Ronin'. Of the girls Kanako could ask for help, Motoko makes the most sense.

Um Crusader, it's Ordo's story. By definition he's going to rely on his own views of the characters and write it his way. That's kind of what we do as authors. He doesn't have to use a single one of the snippets I added if he doesn't want to. This is his baby.

Now to be fair, I agree with keeping Naru sidelined. I think she would be a horrible superhero. She's quick to make immediate snap judgements, she's more likely to blame Keitaro for something than anyone else because of her own insecurities, and she has a tendency to run when uncomfortable emotional situations rear their heads.

More importantly, Kanako knows all of this about her. Kanako would rather try to train Tama and Kuro as sidekicks for Keitaro than work with Naru.

Finally, Keitaro would probably get himself killed worrying for Naru in the field. Can you picture her getting upset and trying to Naru-punch someone like Darkseid or Doomsday? I can. And frankly her temper would end up writing a check Keitaro's ass would have to cash in saving her.

Well, Kanako has made a lot of bad choices due to her biases, like rigging the inn-turned-dormitory with explosives. As long as Motoko's not in her males are vile animals modus operandi, then most would reluctantly trust her to watch their backs unless they do something to displease her by accident. Kanako would most likely only trust Motoko to watch Keitaro's back as long as she isn't the main girl of Keitaro's attraction and her biggest rival, so in that I can clearly see the logic in Kanako entrusting Motoko in such a task as long as she's not a threat or obstacle. And the League would probably test her before giving her said spot just to be on the safe side, but when she wins their trust it's most like that the Shinmei school would forge connections with the JLA with Motoko as a representative and field agent.

And he's doing it again with Damian Wayne, and previously with Cassandra aka Batgirl. Batman seems determined to help those kinds of cases in his own way.
Or that Bruce's past with the League of Assassins makes him eager to help kids indoctrinated into becoming killers get out of the organization.

Ordo said:

Good for you. While I'm not arguing for you to make Naru a superhero, some people could see the potential in Naru becoming a street level superhero, even if she has a lot of mental baggage, due to her own martial arts skills and enhanced strength and that she's smart and studious (but she'd probably need to get over most of her issues), even though Kanako is a more skilled martial artist and is a master of disguise (and probably someone the League of Assassins would have wanted as a member), despite her own instabilities and homicidal tendencies and that Motoko did get over her own instabilities and is probably the strongest in terms of raw strength and ki manipulation, and that there's no shame in asking.

That is true, DhampyrX2, but don't we question each other's views and the ways we write (I know that I often question my views of characters and how I write)?

It makes you wonder if Naru could in theory apply for training with the Batman Family in order to get some discipline, considering many of the memberships own issues, even though she'd most likely drop out and later in again due to issues similar to Huntress. And Keitaro would worry for any of the girls, I believe and get himself most likely killed in the process.

If that's how you wish to view it...

While I'm not arguing for you to make Naru a superhero
And yet you encouraged me to violate my own rule about having no more than 2 Hina girls become heroes. Perhaps 'arguing' for Naru becoming a superhero wasn't your intent, but that's how you came off in the discussion.

some people could see the potential in Naru becoming a street level superhero
Then those people will have to write it, because I don't see it happening in this story. Not with the situation as it stands.

That is true, DhampyrX2, but don't we question each other's views and the ways we write (I know that I often question my views of characters and how I write)?
By all means question, just be ready for the other person to defend their point of view, and be aware of how you might sound. Suggesting that I make an exception to my own rule for Naru's sake did not help your argument.

At this point little is written in stone. Even the scenes I and DhampyrX2 have written may never be in the actual fic. I might decide that Granny Hina is allied with the League of Shadows and Kanako is her protege sent to watch over 'Project Legacy' of which Keitaro is the Primary focus. Something he is unware of.

I could decide that Motoko get's noticed by the league when she helps keitaro take down a demon(since Kryptonians are weak to magic), and after investigating her school decides she could be useful in the future. Since this entire story is set after Keitaro leaves for America, Motoko is likely to be more easily accepted by Kara, Diana and the other ladies of the league.

However, somethings are set in stone. At the stories opening Keitaro is devoted to Naru (for good or ill), while she's not ready to admit (even to herself) how she really feels about him, just like in the manga. (Motoko admited to herself that she liked Keitaro before Naru did, and that's kind of sad)

Given all of Naru's insecurities and her unwillingness to face them (she bailed on Keitaro twice, and nearly threw herself off a cliff) I doubt that her becoming a super hero fits in this tale. That conclusion will color all my future writing for this story. You may not like it, but I feel it's a valid conclusion based on what she's done in the managa and to try to write it differently would feel like a lie to me.

So that's where I am on that, feel free to comment as I've taken suggestion under advisement before, but some things I simply don't see happening.

If Naru were made to face her issues, and develop a reasonable amount of self-control, then I could see her becoming useful. However, she would have to either be forced to do this, or be put into a situation where she forces herself to, as otherwise she's quite adverse to that sort of character development, much like similar people in RL. Also, note the Japanese prejudice against psychotherapy, which makes her getting help even less likely.

If Ordo really wanted to, he certainly could include a plausible sub-plot about this, but if he doesn't want to, her continuing on as usual, and most likely losing Keitaro, is completely believable.

ôNo.ö that was the first thing that came out of her mouth when KeitaroÆs lifeless body was deposited before her. Naru repeated that word over and over again, as Superman reached over to close those now sightless eyes.

ôHe died bravelyàö The man of steel began, ôàsacrificing his life for others, for people heÆd never even known.

Naru was shaking her head as she wrapped her arms around the body and buried her face in his chest, her shoulders shaking. Her tears soaking what remained of KeitaroÆs clothing.

ôHe will be missed.ö Superman stood, as his cousins gentle hand rested on NaruÆs shoulder. ôBut he will have a place of honor amongst ourà.ö

Naru cut him off as she raised her head, a snarl on her lips. She shook her shoulder, tossing off Supergirls touch ôI donÆt want a HERO!ö Her voice broke as she began to rail. ôI want my Keitaro back!ö she sobbed ôWHY!!.....WHY did this happen!!!ö She rounded on Supergirl, clutching The Ronin to her chest ôWhy did YOU take him from me!ö she choked, her eyes ablaze with pain and rage. ôWhy do YOU get live while he diesà.ö She broke down, clinging to his deceased body like a life-preserver. ôWhy did he leave meàö

*****

NaruÆs eyes snapped open, moonlight flooded her room, and she turned her head, the clock reading 1:30 am. She turned her gaze to the ceiling, her mind a whir, her cheeks wet as the last vestiges of the dream left her feeling cold.

No one could protect Keitaro, not against the things the league fought. Oh was tough and better coordinated but that didnÆt mean he had the strength to stand against, Yellow Lanterns, Sun Eaters, New Gods and worse. He was just her Keitaro, and she knew that if he continued to follow this boyish fantasyà to follow Supergirl then her nightmare would one day become reality.

She clenched her fist and nodded once, he was going to stop all this superhero silliness. SheÆd make him, some how, and settle down where he belonged, at her side.

Keitaro would never leave her all alone.

I like to point out that that dream snippet could just as easily be something all of the Hinata honeys have had. An appropriate extension could be all of the girls have similar dreams and end up meeting in the kitchen getting something to calm their nerves.

If they all had pretty much the same dream, that's going to scare them very, very much. After all, they know that magic is real, and probably prophecies, as well.

The girls fears

Naru is afraid Keitaro will bite off more than he can chew and be returned to her in a coffin. SheÆs afraid of this far more than someone like Supergirl or Powergirl turning his head. Afterall at this point in the story he chose her over her greatest rival, Mutsumi, and none of these league girls are as close to him as she was rightà..

Okay, maybe Supergirl, but sheÆs already said sheÆs not interested so Naru has nothing to fearà.rightà.? Right!

So the best way to protect Keitaro is to get him away from all this craziness even if she has to drag him.

Motoko has many of Narus fears, but to her way of thinking, the best way to keep Keitaro alive is to make him as prepared as possible. So when heÆs not training with the league, working on historical data for them, or helping them out, sheÆs training him. It might be via a surprise attack while heÆs getting out of the bath (itÆs for his own good, not to oogle those muscles heÆs devlopàmy itÆs warm todayà), it could be through making him do his Inn duties with a handicap. The only way for Keitaro to survive is to be ready for anything at any time.

Constant vigilance!

Kanako is not happy and is employing all of her skill to monitor her brother and ensure he is protected. Which leads to her discovering her own families ties to the League of Shadows.

Granny Hina: ôYes dear, I and my associates can make sure that Keitaro is WELL looked afterà.but weÆre going to need some favors in return for our servicesà..Æ

Suu-chan is so young and innocent that IÆm not sure the possibility of someone dying has really registered in her young mind.

Shinobu refuses to accept her Sempai could die, itÆs something sheÆs just not going to believe. However she is terrified that one of those league goddesses will take him away. If she could barely hold her own against Naru and Mutsumi what hope does she have against the likes of Wondergirl and Ms. Martian?

Kitsune knocks down a few drinks whenever her fear for Keitaro starts to get the better of her, and instead focuses her energies on writing journalist pieces on the heros of the DCU and their enemies as a form of displacement activity. Oddly enough this leads her to become well respected in the journalist community.

Mutsumi is highly supportive of Kei-kun, and hides any of her own fears behind a radient smile. The Martian Manhunter is not fooled.

What follows are a series of snippets showing how Keitaro interacts with the girls (old and new)

Batgirl

KeitaroÆs arms burned, as sweat poured from his body, he was just barely managing to hold his body up, his arms shaking so bad that he was forced down on his elbows, forehead brushing against the floor as he panted.

For two hours Batman had run him ragged, pushing him far beyond the limits heÆd thought heÆd had, all while Batgirl observed. Several times Keitaro had wanted to quite, had felt his body demanding that he just collapse, but he couldnÆt do it. Kara believed in him, had told him that he could survive this, and he was determined not to make her a liar.

ôWell?ö a gravelly voice asked.

Keitaro blinked sweat out of his eyes as he looked up to find to pair of dark boots standing in front of him. With what felt like a herculean effort he managed to sit back on his haunches, still panting and look up. BatmanÆs eyes narrowed as his lips maintained a straight line. Beside him, Batgirl folded her arms over her chest and stared at Keitaro for a long time. She nodded once.

ôHeÆs all yours.ö Batman turned, his black cape swirling around himá as he turned and strode from the room.

Keitaro watched him leave a sense of dread descending upon him as Batgirl stood in front of him, her mask unable to hide a wide grin

[Much Later]

Keitaro took a deep breath as Batgirl slammed the butt of her staff down on the ground multiple times. The hybrid knew the drill by now, and shifted stances, flowing through a different part of the kata at each loud bang. The young woman stopped, long before the kata's end and Keitaro froze in place.

Batgirl approached him, and roughly adjusted his current position, slapping his blocking hand up, sliding his leg back a bit and adjusting his body so that his form was perfect. She sighed staring into his face and gently poked him in the head.

"I know...focus." the Ronin sighed as his teacher stepped away to observe him. She raised a finger, twirling it once. Keitaro nodded as they began again from the top.

Keitaro had finally recovered from his recent pasting at the hands of Amazo, and had insisted that his lessons with Batgirl resume. So far things were going fairly well. His form was much improved, and his focus was getting better. Perhaps he wasn't doomed to a life of clumsy accidents.

Batgirl stopped and Keitaro froze in a horse stance, hands pulled in towards his waist. She moved in, correcting him as he kept his eyes focused on a point on the wall. However all that concentration went right out the window as she stepped in front of him placed her hands on his shoulders and pushed down. The goal had been to make him sit himself just a bit lower. That action had the unfortunate consequence of putting his face right on top of her breasts.

Keitaro immediately panicked and tried to pull away. Normally, Batgirl would've just let him go as he fell back, but that proved impossible as Keitaro's powers flared in response to his emotional state, sticking her hands to his shoulders. Thus Batgirl found herself being pulled along from the ride as Keitaro fell over backwards, landing atop him, and her breasts squishing his face as he squirmed underneath her.

Thinking quickly she reached out and grabbed her staff as Keitaro mumbled panicked apologies from his spot trapped underneath her and slammed the butt on the ground. Keitaro stopped, cleared his mind and regained control.

Batgirl sat up, straddling his waist and sighed as she looked down at her red faced student. "I...I am so..." she placed a finger on his lips and shook her head, before raising her hand to pat her chest "You're fault? But I'm the one who..." he stopped as she silenced him again. Her face scrunched up as she tried to figure out how she would explain this to him.

"She was standing to close to you." Both looked up to find Black Canary strolling into the training room, a look of amusement on her face. "She should've foreseen this happening when she encouraged you to sit a bit lower in your stance."

Keitaro turned and found Batgirl nodding, much to his surprise.

Black Canary stopped in front of the pair "Now, Batgirl, I want you to know that you have done a fine job getting him this far, but the League feels that he needs a teacher that can better communicate with him if he's to progress any further. So I'll be taking over."

Keitaro blinked as his now former teachers shoulders slumped. 'Huh she must really like being a teacher.' he surmised.

Batgirl nodded, turned to her former charge and again poked him in the head. The Ronin smiled "Right...focus." The two shared a chuckle as Canary observed allowing them this moment before assuming responsibility for Keitaro's training.

Later Watch Tower Cafeteria

Cassandra Cain sat at a table, her chin resting in her hand as she stared out the window. She let out a sigh and shook her head. She missed her time with the Ronin already.

"Batgirl!" She looked up to find Keitaro approaching her, weaving his way through the small crowd of people spread throughout the cafeteria, with a chocolate cake in his hands. His bright smile a beacon to her eyes. "Batman has me doing research on the League of Shadows so I can't stay but..." he set the cake down in front of her "I just want to show my thanks for all you've taught me." his winning smile brightened as he bowed low to her before taking off, threading his way back through the crowd.

"Awww isn't he sweet!" Cassandra looked up to find Fire, the green haired Brazilian, staring at her with laughing eyes. Cassandra ignored her and sliced off a piece of her cake, took a bite and froze her eyes going wide.

"Heh, figures he can't cook still it was a nice..." Fire stopped talking as Cassandra moaned, "There's no way it can be that good." With Batgirl currently stuck in a state of euphoria she sliced off a piece for herself and took a bite. A good thirty seconds later she'd set her piece and fork down, grabbedá Cassandra by the shoulders and got right in her face "You marry him!" She demanded in her thick accent "I don't care if you have to smash him over the head and drag him to the alter! You marry that boy right now!"

Supergirl watched from across the room as other female leaguers, seeing Fire and Batgirl's reaction closed in on Cassandra's chocolate cake.á Batgirl had recovered and was desperately trying to defend her gift from the other women. Kara winced and mentally prepared herself to defend her friend from League women desperate to try his 'Death By Chocolate' Cake.

[Much Later]

Kara watched, none too happy as Batgirl and Ronin made aggressive movements towards one another. The stance of their bodies, the sharp movements of their limbs, and the intense gaze in their eyes, not managing to hide the smiles on their faces.

"Exactly HOW does this help Keitaro's training?"

Black Canary gave Supergirl a side glance before answering, just managing to hide her smile "Keitaro needs to learn to work in concert with a team, this training helps with that by starting him off with a single partner." The sultry siren watched with critical eyes as her two charges twirled around one another. "It's also a continuation of his...concentration training which is why I choose Batgirl to be his partner."

Kara's eyes Narrowed at the smile on Cassandra's face as Keitaro dipped her. "But...The Tango?"

Canary shrugged attempting to keep the amusement at KaraÆs reaction out of her voice. "They breezed through The Waltz."

"And why is Batgirl in a bikini?" Kara asked with a raised brow.

"A sport top and bicycle shorts is not a bikini. It's a modest tankini at best," Dinah defended with a poorly hidden grin.

"Canary~" Kara prodded with a Look.

"What? If you really want to help Keitaro get over his issues they should both be doing this naked. That would get him over his shyness and force him to confront several things at once. I just thought that would be a little too much for him at this point," Dinah responded with a smirk.

Kara thought it was rather mature of her that she held back her thoughts on Black Canary's suggested attire for the exercise before she stormed out of the room.

Once Kara was fully out of sight Dinah snorted to herself and muttered, "Not interested in him my fishnet-clad ass."

"I heard that," Kara shouted from around the corner at the end of the corridor.

"You could hear it if I was at home in Gotham and you were in Metropolis," Dinah shot back, even going so far as to stick out he tongue in Kara's general direction in case she was still watching the proceedings with X-ray vision.
Secret

It had taken well over a month but Keitaro was finally noticing a difference in his coordination. Batgirl was a hard taskmaster when she wanted to be, but had eased up a bit as things went on. He was still sore after lessons, even now as he sat in the watchtower cafeteria he felt the mild aches from training, but he accepted them, a small price to pay in the end.

Keitaro shifted in his seat, staring out at the universe beyond, his sketch pad resting on his lap. He turned his gaze away to find a wispy waif of a girl staring out at the great void. He watched her, noting the sad look in her eyes as she pulled her knees up, and hugged them to her chest.

His hand began to sketch, slowly brining the image to life on his pad. She sat there just looking lost and forlorn, like she wanted something, a dream that was beyond her grasp. Something jogged at his memory as he drew a name for this young wraith.

Secret

He paused staring down at his work once done, showing her in all her sadness, in all her heart wrenching isolation as she sat in a room filled with people and remained alone.

ôWhy are you so sadàö he hadnÆt meant to say it aloud, it just tumbled past his lips as he stared at his drawing. So engrossed was he in that question that he didnÆt notice her presence until her smoky tendrils were crawling across his sketch pad.

KeitaroÆs head snapped up to find the ghost girl staring down at the image of herself ôIs that how you see me?ö she asked, her voice shaking just a bit as she met his gaze.

æSuch sad eyes.Æ Keitaro was about to shake his head no, but something in her, caused him to nod ôYou seem so sad and alone.ö Her shoulders sank a bit ôB..but I know you have friendsàKara said you and Cassieà.ö He stopped talking as she shook her head.

ôCassie is a great friend, they all are butàsome things I canÆt share not even with themà.ö She looked at her hands ôNo matter how much I may want to.ö

KeitaroÆs powers flared as he reached for those little hands. At first it seemed heÆd pass right through them, but something firmed, something intangible became tangible for just a moment as he clutched her hands much to SecretÆs shock ôFriends understand one another, they stand by each other. I may not know your pain, but all people suffer and itÆs by forming bonds that we survive and find peace.ö He smiled at her and she returned it, then she moved wrapping her arms around him and for just a moment he felt the squeeze of slim arms as she held him.

ôThank you!ö She whispered.

Several of those snippets were posted before. But I can't recall the Secret snippet before. That must be new, then. Nice.

For Batgirl I added in their first meeting, and tried to clean up the previous posts. Secret's snippet I've had in my thoughts for awhile but never got around to posting.

Motoko swung her blade through a set form, weapon slicing into her phantom enemy, automatically making the blade dance. She wove her weapon through a series of attack patterns, blade glinting in the moonlight, flashing through the night air like silver lightening. Her focus so intense that she didnÆt realize she wasnÆt alone until a voice startled her from her form.

ôMotoko-chanö KeitaroÆs hand snapped up as she whirled, and struck. Her instinct to defend herself briefly overriding all else. Thankfully KeitaroÆs training had significantly improved his reaction time, allowing him to catch her blade between two of his fingers. He smiled apologetically ôSorry, didnÆt mean to startle you.ö
She took a deep breath and sheathed her sword. ôWhat do you wish, Keitaro.ö

She strolled over to the edge of her training sight, picking up a bottle of water and taking a swig. She watched him shuffle forward, lips pursed as he picked his words. Finally he held out his hands towards her.

ôMotokoà.I want to show you something.ö

She set her bottle down and regarded him for several long moments, before taking his hand, and finding herself scooped up into his arms as he launched himself, and her into the night sky. Instinctively she clung to him, arms wrapping around his neck as the ground dropped away at fantastic speed ôKeàKeitarooo!ö

Then they stopped, just hovering in the air as Keitaro smiled at her ôIÆve got youà.now look down.ö The swordswoman swallowed and did as she was asked, a gasp escaping her lips as she saw the lights of the city below. ôEach light is a person, a son a daughter that may have their own children and families to come home toàö she stared down in wonder as his words began to register ôI know you have all been concerned about my association with the League.ö She tore her gaze away from the sight below to find Keitaro studying her with a worried gaze. ôSo I wanted you all to knowàto see why I have to continue.ö

She felt a flush touch her cheeks and turned aside, hoping he didnÆt notice. ôYou want to protect themàö

ôI want to help protect themàIÆll never be a frontline hero like Green Lantern, Superman and the others.ö Her blush deepened as he felt his strong arms cradling her closer to his very warm body. ôàbut my ability to do research is of vital importance, it already helped avert a disaster. Even Robin, who didnÆt really like me much at first admitted that without my aid, Darkseid wouldÆve destroyed a lot of innocent lives. I accomplished that without throwing a punch so I hope you all can eventually learn to understand why I have to do this.ö

She stared at the world below, mind awhirl, as she face an internal conflict. Part of her wanted to grab Keitaro and shield him from the terrible monsters that the League faced again and again. Another part was so proud of him that she felt her heart would burst. ôIàunderstand.ö She finally allowed ôI donÆt like it but I canÆt fault your motivation or what youÆve already accomplished. Justàbecareful.ö
His brilliant smile was all she needed to know sheÆd made the right choice.

Kitsune watched as a dejected Keitaro strolled down the stairs, a rather large handprint on his cheek. ôNaru?ö she asked a smile touching her lips as she sipped her drink. The Ronin turned hero nodded.

ôSheàdidnÆt like my reasons for staying with the league.ö He rubbed his cheek as he spoke.

Kitsune chuckled ôYes I and most o the neighborhood heard.ö She sobered a bit as she leaned back in her seat ôSo whatÆs with the handprint, I though you were effectively industructable?ö

ôMy body shield has gotten a lot stronger and I didnÆt want Naru to hurt herself slapping me.ö He took a seat across from her as he continued. ôBesidesàthe slap was half hearted, she didnÆt put anywhere near her full strength into it.ö

Notes: Going to have to add more to the Naru æafter sceneÆ later as I am currently drawing a blank on where to go.
