I should probably cook up a back story too...
Are we going to try and do a test game this weekend? I would like to make sure we can all get on before everyone finishes character creation, so we don't start sitting around trying to set up the game.
Also, is the world cold, or just the region we're in? Could you give us a bit more of the general history/setup?
Certainly.
For the most part, the world my campaign is set on is very much like Earth, with it cold at the North and South Poles, and hot at the Equator. The planet has four main landmasses with several thousand islands of various sizes dotted around the world. The planet itself is almost twice the size of Earth, and is orbited by two moons. The region my campaign is starting in is loacted to the far north, on a landmass that stretches down from the 25th parallel to below the equator, and takes up a good fifth of the northern hemisphere. This one is the third continent in terms of size. Topographically, the land is mostly flat, with only the occasional rolling hill. Huge swathes of land is covered in forest, covering over 60% of the continent.
In terms of the evolution of some of the various sentient species, Humans and Orcs are distantly related, with the Orcs having evolved from that world's version of Neanderthal Man. Gnomes and Halflings are related too, with them becoming distinct species some three hundred thousand years in the past. The Half-Elves of this world breed true, as their existence was a direct result of a magical experiment failing catastrophically some 50,000 years ago; or at least that's what everyone believes.
With the Illithids of this reality, their species originated from before the creation of this Universe, having evolved from a species that found a way to survive the collapse of reality itself. That's all I'm going to divulge with regards to the Mind Flayers, as anything else would be spoilers.
