It's Always the Quiet Ones
Snippetus returnus!
Moments earlier, the other side
The door closed and locked, Zazie quickly scanned the room for some measure of insurance. In a flash of ingenuity she leaned a folded up easel, jamming the door shut. Seconds later Asuna started pounding on the door. The acrobat looked for some other preventative.
"Zazie open up! Zazie! Damn it." Negi looked to speak up but fell silent as faces formed out of the shadows. Zazie opened up the window and then turned to the shadows.
"Two, run distraction." she whispered, both seemed to bow before their shape changed.
"...No way..." the formless shadows had shifted to the shape of Zazie and himself, the shadow Zazie dragged the shadow Negi's by the hand as they slipped out the window. The boy mage barely even moved as Zazie walked back and held him.
"You're safe now." she said softly, enjoying holding the boy. It all felt so nice, she'd held him at night but he had always come to her. Today something was urging her on. The light fluttered had turned into a fire and even as she held him she felt warmer then she had in some time...
"...Rainyday-san... What were those things?" Negi asked in a somewhat shaky voice but she barely heard it, instead she just a light squeeze. The urging continued, every fiber of her being was pushing her to do something... but what was she suppose to do? Negi was here... right here in her arms but she was suppose to do more, what more could see do? She held him tighter trying to make the feeling go away but it only grew. Her chest grew tight, and unfamiliar wetness blurring her eyes. She shut them tight, hot tears dripping down her face.
"Rainyday-san I'm not sur-" a few droplets hit the back of his neck. "What the..." another, then another. Zazie began to shake as the overwhelming feelings urged more and more, pressing her to act. What was wrong with her? "Tears?"
"I'm sorry..." the normally calm tone he associated with the girl was tremored and unsure. She squeezed him again, "I'm sorry..." she didn't know who she was apologizing to, but it was anything to try and ease the pressure looming over her. She could feel the boy shifting in her grasp and panicked she held him even tighter. You can't let go! her body seemed to scream at her so she just held on sniffling.
"Rainyday-san..." Negi's voice sounded far away sending shivers down her spine. "Why are you apologizing?" his tone was calm and patient as ever. The words came quickly to the normally silent girl, tumbling free with hardly a thought.
"I...I don't know..." she whispered. "I...I feel like I'm suppose to do something... I want to do something... b-but... but I don't know." she choked out. "I don't know... Sensei. W-What's wrong with me?" she whispered, her head buried into the back of the boy's neck. Is... Is she resisting the spell? Negi allowed himself a small moment of hopeful awe but as he felt her shaking form the awe was replaced with guilt. Resisting or not the girl was in total distress over the induced emotions. He placed his hand over her own, which clung tightly to his tattered shirt.
"Zazie-san." she froze, "It's okay..." he couldn't think off what else he could say but that seemed to be enough. As if triggered whatever was left of her emotional barriers cracked and with a choked sob began to cry freely into Negi's back. The boy was surprised at the suddenness of it and nervously tried to comfort the girl, as she held tight like he was a life preserver. His experience with girls was limited at best and was left unsure how to handle such an emotional reaction. He wasnÆt sure how many minutes passed before she began to slow and finally stop. He gave a small sigh of relief turning as best he could in the slightly looser grip to get a look at the girl. "Zazie-san, are you okay?" he asked but received no response. Her head was lolled forward onto his shoulder and in the quiet he could hear (and feel) her slow breathing. "She's asleep?" he sweated a little, this image would look very bad if they was found... a situation he was getting into a lot lately. "I should get back to the room" he muttered blushing a little as he shifted his hands and awkwardly stood, the sleeping girl draped over his back. "She's lighter then I expected..." he noted before shaking his head, this was hardly the time to be thinking such thoughts, it was bad enough where he had to put his ha-... not the time.
Trying to clear his mind he moved to unblock the door and came face to face with a white mask. He stared for a long moment before he opened his mouth to scream, a black tendril immediately covering it and muffling. A second tendril made a 'shh' motion in front of it's unmoving mouth.
"S-sorry..." he muttered on reflex, taking in the sight as several more masks formed out of the darkness. He managed to hold his ground, memory coming back to him. "You are Zazie's... friends?" he searched for an appropriate word. The creatures looked to each other before the, apparently, lead shadow nodded. "I see..." he could hardly believe he was talking to these things, whatever they were. "I wanted to take her back to our room. But things are a bit complicated."
The fledgling mage watched in wonder as the several white masks floated together bobbing, weaving, and having some manner of conference without making a sound. The lead mask turned back and nodded. The masks floated away from the door to a blank part of the wall. Slowly they began to fade and left them alone.
"What? I thought they were going to at least move the easel," he muttered. Though soon as he finished he could feel a build of power at the wall, shadows began to swirl into some manner of vortex. Negi took a step back but found a force pushing him from behind. He glanced back to see three masks, formless limbs pushing him to the vortex. "W-what are you doing?" he asked panicked. He couldn't seem to get any traction against their steady push. A shadowy thumbs up could be seen as the vortex swallowed the pair up. Without a sound all the shadows faded leaving the closet empty.

Negi stumbled as he felt solid ground again, nearly toppling with the girl on his back. "Hey that wasnÆt very... nice?" he began to take in his new surroundings... their dorm room. "Oh..." he blinked looking back to see a few masks watching him closely. He swallowed his nervousness and moved over to the bed and with some maneuvering managed to lay her down. Seemingly satisfied the masked began to fade once more. Negi turned and gave them a bow. "Thank you Shadow-san."
They paused observing the boy before bowing in return and slipping away. Room empty, save for the sleeping Zazie Negi laid down one to floor staring at the ceiling... right then and there he promised himself.
No more love potions...

All across the campus academic building girls from 2-A blinked confused and disoriented, memory a jumble to why they ended up where they were and how much time seemed to be missingà Natsumi and Chisame awoke with great headaches. the room was a mess and the door was learning against the wall, broken clear off itÆs hinges.
ôàUm Hasagawa-sanàö
ôI donÆt think I want to knowàö the computer specialist muttered slowly getting to her feet. She blinked as her classmate was staring at her.
ôWhat?ö
ôYou look different without your glassesà and with your hair down you look a lot like those models in the magazines.ö NatsumiÆs compliment made her reach up to confirm, she was indeed without her glasses. A moment of panic as she looked around only to see them resting on the desk top, folded and unmarked.
ôIà I donÆt remember taking those off.ö Chisame was a girl always in control, the missing time worried her greatly. To take off her glasses and undo her hair outside of her room. she stuffed down her concern and quickly donned her glasses once more. Reaching back with practiced ease putting her hair back out of the way. ôYou better not tell anyone.ö
ôHuh? but I donÆt understand wh-ô
ôJust donÆt!ö
ôO-Okayà sorry.ö the actress was cowed immediately. Not nearly as scary as Chizuru could be but Chisame had her moments. it didnÆt make sense though, why pretend to be ordinary? if she could look that amazing, sheÆs never hide it soà Natsumi sighed lightly, depressing thoughts did little to help the fuzziness of it all. Getting back to her feet she gasp. ôNo! It rippedàö she looked to the sleeve of her Romeo costume in dismay. ôThe others are going to kill me. what do I do, what do I do.ö The actressÆs mind went into overdrive. Chizuru could fix it but with how busy the girl was sheÆd never get it back before the rest of the cast noticed.
ôGive it.ö
ôHm?ö she looked up to see Chisame, hand extended.
ôIÆll fix it, itÆs not that big a tear yet but if you keep running around itÆs going to get worse.ö
ôReally?ö
ôYes.ö the girl sighed. ôLook IÆll drop it off later tonight, as long as you donÆt tell any of the others about what happened IÆll call it even.ö she muttered, really determined to keep her anonymity Silence stretched for a moment before she snapped out a little. ôWell?ö
ôOkay!ö Natsumi quickly went about removing the others coat. ôThank you so much.ö she smiled as she handed the piece over. Her classmate only grunted in return before she headed out into the hall. Maybe she wasnÆt such a bad person?

Asuna sat dejected in a local cafÚ, the pair she had chased had been a fake, sheÆd been fooled. By the time she got back to the classroom it was empty. ôBut why would Negi send a fake out the window I meanàö she caught herself as it clicked into place. Negi didnÆt create those fakes. ôThan Zazie?ö it made sense, she seemed to look out for the kid before the potion had got her. A vision of glowing red eyes sent a chill down her spine. That gaze filled her with fear and urge to get awayà was Zazie a mage? Or was she something else?
ôNegiàI hope your all right.ö she whispered clenching her hand. She had to get him to come backàthe time was ticking and finals were approaching. She was running out of time.

Comments- I thought things would be a bit clearer if also got to see things from her side. Zazie's odd reaction was a mix of a few differing factors which will come into mention in the near future. The shadows introduce themsevles and a little sene clearing up loose ends with chisame, natsumi and Asuna... the chapter is not over yet but it is winding to a close.
mickl3- Kazumi was keeping her distance and thus out of range. Most of the girls seemed to be close to him when they fell under the spell so I figured have kazumi stand back and flim the confrontation she could remain sane. and asuna is not as bad as naru as soon asuna is going to make a more direct move... something Naru-baka could never do since she's so damn indecisive.
and yes, zazie had some cute filler screentime... loved it greatly.
