Actually, I agree with you here. Look at what they're doing with Alan Scott - they suddenly decide to change his orientation, and with little to no explanation.
And yes, I'm aware that people of Scott's generation woud have been extremely hesitant - to say the least - to come out, we're still talking about a man who's been married twice, shown
no inclination towards homosexuality (or even bisexuality) and now,
BAM! - gay.
Why? Because the editors/writers think a) it's trendy, B) it's edgy, and/or c) they need to show a powerful gay character. To that last I ask, "What about Kathy Kane, the current Batwoman, and her girlfriend, Rene Montoya, the Question?" They were two kickass charas who happened to be lesbians.
I see no reason to change Alan Scott, other than crap rationalizations.
