Would you seriously just go fuck off?

Goddamn, you are the single biggest bitch I have ever seen. Next you're going to, what, blame the US for the fucking ice age? Your government is fucked up. CONGRATULATIONS, NONE OF US GIVE A SHIT.

We're a little busy with things that actually matter, like keeping our own government from fucking up our country, and, in this case, other's as well. Like yours.

So why don't you take a page from our book, stop being a little bitch, and try to change your government for the better.

Or are you too much of a pussy to do anything more than constantly bitch about America because you don't have the balls to actually do something?

What?! What?! That's.... argh!!

EDIT: Aw hell, I remember what this is about. There's a copyright law on the books that's letting artists reclaim the rights to their music from producers after a certain number of years (forty odd if I recall correctly), and the first artists started doing that last year. Needless to say the record companies were not happy.

I don't mind getting information on things I may have missed (what with SOPA, Republican Candidates, Iran etc) but kindly loose the attitude, it's not helping.

The Senate Bill, PIPA, was scheduled for vote next Tuesday (the 24th). Earlier today, Sen. Majority Leader Harry Reid announced that the vote has been delayed; I think it might be coming to vote on Friday the 27th but I'm not sure.

SOPA continues to accrue delays. I don't think there is a time-table for voting on it. Well, I can't find it if there is and I'm not sure I want to see if there are sufficiently detailed agendas available online--or dig through them if there are.

In any event, the fastest and most effective way to spook your elected representative is to call their office http://clerk.house.gov/member_info/mcapdir.aspx' target='_blank' rel='nofollow'>House Directory and Senate Directory) and say that you feel strongly enough about this issue that, should they vote for it, you will make a note on your calendar to vote against them when they are next up for re-election.

In particular, any of you that are constituents in the House 21st Texas Congressional District (with Representative Lamar Smith, sponsor of SOPA) and the state of Vermont (with Senator Patrick Leahy, sponsor of PIPA), are in a position to strongly influence policy.

In both cases, I believe that an argument framed from economics is superior to an argument from ideals; both are honestly trying to protect the interests of US workers. Saying you think it will "throw the baby out with the bathwater" and, as currently written, will harm and stifle American business and industry should be a more effective argument.

I called Bob Casey's office 6 times yesterday and spoke to a representative who just said they'll take my views into consideration basically.

According to this, the chances of the vote happening this year are small. Probably no one want to be asked which side they're on before elections.

However, some are starting to think Anonymous's attack may have burned all the goodwill gained by the protests this week and some could use this to push plans forward.

We would still need to advertise like motherfucker's, copy that image and spread it everywhere people can see and convince them to do it.

Also edit it with the February version.

Hell, spread both.

some small part of /b/ (Probably one person) keep's trying to get that to catch on but the mods are killing threads so fast and /b/ is so /b/...

It's also been put on a Facebook several times, but it keep's getting taken down.

We need people to see it, we need the knowledge to become a literal Meme, not just a 4chan meme.

We need to hit their Wallet, HARD.

It's the only thing they have that they care about, just like the senators are with votes.
I've posted it on FB and it didn't get taken down. Where are you seeing that?

I thought the "think of the children" stuff was done before, and I don't remember how that worked. I think that might have been in the UK, maybe. Not really willing to do research, atm. That will be the one to pass if any, because that is the sort of thing politicians do all the time. I'm not really sure how to oppose it then.
What needs to happen with that is that Harry Reid needs to frog-march that bill's Senate version through before anyone has a chance to tie a SOPA/PIPA rider onto it (or Boehner needs to frog-march the House version, though that's far more unlikely given what Boehner's party claims to stand for). The resulting gridlock if the House tries to add that rider in the wake of a SOPA/PIPA failure will tie it up until it's too late to do anything about it.

It's crap like this that makes me glad that Illinois has a section of its Constitution devoted to saying "NO UNRELATED RIDERS" in it. At least this way we don't have to deal with it at the state level here.
So that was what they were called. When I was typing that I assumed they would word the next bet to try to include the stuff that PIPA and SOPA were supposed to do, instead of just attaching it. Going after the rider and not the bill should be perfectly acceptable, since riders are generally associated with government waste and bad policies, iirc.

Anon's hacking was a dumb idea, and honestly probably makes the whole side against it look bad. Then again, while this is going on one company supporting SOPA was getting into some trouble because they were attaching artist's names to records, the "best of" albums, without informing them or paying them. I doubt many people will focus on that, however. It is a shit show everywhere.

The bit about congress being able to restore intellectual property rights is just fucking dumb. This isn't even one that has an excuse of them not being familiar with the context, as some other things in this thread might. Concerts that play classics are everywhere, and most orchestras apparently don't make enough to cover the costs, so the point of doing this is....what? They aren't going to bring in more money from this.

Because it's our duty now to police the world for evildoers?

As much as some politicians who salivate at that kind of power would like, the US is not the world police. Sure, we're the closest thing the world currently has, but a corrupt police is worse than no police, in many cases.

We're dealing with our corruption. What is he doing? Bitching on an internet forum about how the US are a bunch of meanie poopy heads.

I think he's complaining that the USA put the corrupt government in power because they were scared shitless of communism and now they don't do anything to remove them from power because there is nothing to gain from it.

So the poster wants the US government to compound a past mistake by removing a current recognized government from power? That went over so well with the world when the previous administration went into Iraq....

Actually, if this is indeed what the intent is for the law, then I support it completely. Record labels are horrendously dictatorial to the artists with the rights to their own material.

This is why Prince became "The artist formerly known as Prince" for a couple years just so he could get away from the contracts that his record company were bogging him down with.

Ah, no. This is the record companies reasserting control of works that might have reverted back to the original artists. :headbanger:

Doesn't mean it's over. They could just, as has been said, copy-paste it to the bottom of that PCIP bill.
Nobody will vote against it and risk being called a pedo.

As Watashiwa said, the intent of the law we believe was at issue was to let living artists who signed exclusive copyright contracts as part of their deals with record labels in the late sixties, the seventies and the eighties have the chance to take back the copyrights the labels basically strong-armed out of them. The orchestra classics thing was an unintended negative consequence.

This Bill Entitled "The Protecting Children from Internet Pornographers Act of 2011" Is a Bill with overly broadened language that greatly threatens all of us.

"under language approved 19 to 10 by a House committee, the firm that sells you Internet access would be required to track all of your Internet activity and save it for 18 months, along with your name, the address where you live, your bank account numbers, your credit card numbers, and IP addresses you've been assigned."

Representative Zoe Lofgren, (D-Calif.) one of the most vocal opponents of the bill, presented an amendment to rename the Bill the "Keep Every American's Digital Data for Submission to the Federal Government Without a Warrant Act."

Next round, begin.

Though seriously, reviewing that, if that's all then that title is both completely irrelevant to the contents of the law, and grossly misrepresents what it's apparently trying to do. It's not protecting shit, only keeping large amounts of records, full of very dangerous information to lose.

...full of very dangerous information to lose.
Which the government will do, promptly. And never bother to warn you about until your identity has been stolen hundreds of times.

It's another "government peeping" act trying desperately to hide what it is. Let's hope that this Lofgren will continue to hammer just how ridiculously broad it's language is. If the focus stays on that, it should be fairly easy to defeat.
