Night One. USS Sojourner. Geosynchronous Orbit Over TFFA City. 2129 Local Time.
"I'm not picking up any other warp-capable starships that I can see, but judging from the subspace noise on the planet below and various ships in-system that they seem to employ vessels with some kind of faster than light capability," T'Kal reported, looking over her sensor readouts. "There is a vessel approaching."
"What have we got on it, Wyn?" Carter asked.
"Dual-fusion drive propulsion," the Angosian replied, looking over her readouts. "Well armed with missile weapons and what look like X-ray lasers and three heavy particle cannons. Looks to be patrol boat sized."
"Shields?" Carter asked. Wyn shook her head.
"It doesn't look like it, but there's some strange variations in the sensor systems..."
"I'm working on it, Wynnie!" Haro said.
"So, does it have an FTL drive of any kind?" Castor pressed. T'Kal checked her readouts and nodded.
"Yes sir."
"Good! Then the Prime Directive doesn't apply," Carter said with a smile. "Open a channel to the vessel, Saffron."
"Sir, there is the issue of this being another universe and-" Castor began, before being interrupted by his captain.
"After the so-called 'Mirror, Mirror' incident, Starfleet Regulation 1, Section KA was added. 'In the case of civilizations of parallel universes, Starfleet personnel are authorized to make contact with said civilizations provided they do not fall under Sections A through G Prime Directive Qualifications.'"
"In other words, since they can give Einstein the finger, it's all good?" Haro translated. Carter nodded.
"Exactly."
"Channel open, sir," Saffron said. She glanced over at her boyfriend at the helm with a wink. Koroshiya just sighed as the captain sat up straight.
"This is Captain Adam Carter, of the Federation starship Sojourner."
Accompanied with this statement were variations on the standard Federation greeting, which were designed to be interpreted by pretty much any space-faring civilization as "We are explorers from another civilization, we come in peace, and we'd really appreciate it if you didn't shoot us."
T'Kal, meanwhile, continued to track any other ships in the solar system. She raised an eyebrow-There were quite a lot of them. And a significant number were much, much bigger than them.
