There are two Taijjutsu types: Gouken ("fierce fist"), which inflicts visible, physical damage, and Juuken ("light fist"), which causes damages in the internal vital lines through which the chakra courses and can damage the internal organs connected to them.
So reaffirmation that these two are broad classifications for taijutsu rather than specific fighting styles. In which case it's a shame that Gai/Lee's style and the Hyuuga's style weren't given a specific name like Drunken Fist and Arhat Fist, though it'd probably just be "Leaf Fist" and "Trigram Fist."

I think Kishimoto might have forgotten about this anyway since one of Neji's techniques is literally called Gentle Fist Art One Blow Boy.

And I still can't think of another example for the Gentle Fist aside from the Hyuuga's speciality. Only ninjutsu that wrecks an enemy's insides with chakra. Though since the Taijutsu entry mentions again that it needs no chakra (twice), perhaps the Hyuuga are special for using chakra and other Gentle Fist practitioners attack purely with physical attacks.

Since when does taijutsu use no chakra? Taijutsu users boost their bodies with chakra all the time. Hyuuga techniques all weaponize chakra.

How would Gentle Fist even work without using chakra? Jab them in the joints and hope you pinch a nerve?

Knyght

The Collector
It's says taijutsu doesn't need chakra which is technically accurate. You don't need chakra to kick someone in the face but you can use it to break their jaw into a few more pieces.
I assume there are real life martial arts that are meant to emphasize attacking internal or whatever, so I'd guess the broader definition of the Gentle Fist would focus on that. Even if there aren't ones in real life, it's not that strange in fiction where they can learn to attack in ways that would literally punch you in the gut and so on.

To help clarify this...

Gatsuuga is a Taijutsu. As you know, it's Kiba and Akamaru spinning fast and hard, the kind of thing that requires chakra because of how unrealistic it is.

However, the Kage Buyou [Shadow Leaf Dance] is ALSO a Taijutsu, and it doesn't really require chakra to be done.

The Shishi Rendan is a Taijutsu, but the Uzumaki Naruto Rendan is a Ninjutsu [because it depends too much on shadow clones].

The Kaiten is a Taijutsu explicitly stated to expel chakra, but that only generates the stronger barrier; no confirmation on what'd happen if you did it without doing that part. The 64 Trigrams is a Taijutsu that does not do that, relying on the pressure point touch to work [though if it was shown introducing chakra, well, it's not on the book so I wouldn't know].

Another Taijutsu is Gamabunta's Gama Dosuzan [Toad Blade Decapitation], which has no chakra in it, only his pure strength and ability.

So, yeah. Most Taijutsu techniques don't use chakra in that you don't need chakra to use them. Some do.

Depression struck. I'm gonna post set two now.

Also, do tell me what you want to see next, after I'm done with these.

Juinjutsu
The curse that seals the target's mind or body

It's a seal applied to control the target's power or actions. Those cursed with a Juinjutsu have a seal (the "juin") carved into their bodies. This juin reacts to the secret seals activated by the one who executed it, which may cause physical or mental suffering to its victims. Juinjutsu are secret techniques and, as such, are wrapped in mystery.

Hyuuga Clan's Main Lineage
The Hyuuga clan has in its lineage the Byakugan, a Kekkei Genkai. To keep its secret, all branch lineage members have a juin carved into their forehead, which has already caused much tragedy.
^ Skilled though you may be, it's hard to resist a juin...

Orochimaru
Orochimaru's juin stimulates Sasuke's evil intentions. When he releases chakra, the juin spreads all over his body.
^> The juin Orochimaru placed on Sasuke reacts to chakra use.
Fuuinjutsu
Seals power out of control to restore order

It's a sealing technique to limit, annul or stop the target from using a certain ability. Markings appear in the target's body and reveal the composition of the juin or what it is you wish to seal. There are even and odd combinations, based on the amount of symbols used, and each one has different effects. Fuuinjutsu is another Jutsu type wrapped in mystery.

Naruto
Orochimaru overlaid an odd fuuin to the even fuuin, marked by the Fourth Hokage. The original fuuin's effect was damaged and made Naruto suffer.
^ The odd fuuin was undone by Jiraiya.

Sasuke
To seal away the evil juin marked on Sasuke by Orochimaru, Kakashi made a fuuin seal with his own blood.
^ A Fuujahouin (Curse Restraining Seal) stops the uncontrolled chakra strength.
Hiden
They are many techniques taught within a clan or specific regions

Also called "Hijutsu", Hiden are highly confidential techniques, inherited by the members of a group or a clan that lives in a certain region. They hardly require talent or a specific bloodline, but generally, they're limited to the group or clan they belong to. In some cases, the technique itself is considered secret and, due to that, it's not known how many Hijutsus exist in the Hidden Leaf Village.
Examples: Kagemane/Kikaichuu/Baika/Nan no Kaizou
Forbidden Techniques and their Reasons
There are two conditions for a technique to be considered forbidden. The first is when its use endangers the user's life; the second, when its effect is dangerous for going against the laws of nature. Especially in the second case, a scroll that has a technique considered forbidden is sealed.
First Type Examples: Taijyu Kage Bunshin, Souja Sousai, Urarenge
Second Type Examples: Kuchiyose, Edotensei

A correction: it's "Kuchiyose - Edotensei", the full name of the technique, not Kuchiyose AND Edotensei

Not the same thing but that's totally how I read that. :snigger:

It's a sealing technique to limit, annul or stop the target from using a certain ability.
I wonder where sealing Tailed Beast's inside people falls inside that definition. What exactly are you stopping?
Juinjutsu/Fuuinjutsu are secret techniques and, as such, are wrapped in mystery.
Sounds like a convenient reason for Kishimoto to avoid creating any in-depth explanation for what are probably the strangest branches of ninjutsu.

Nope, it's both.

Kuchiyose is on page 182 and describes the summoning technique in itself.

Edotensei, on the other hand, is on page 181 as "Kuchiyose - Edotensei" - but on that section, specific, it's only the last name. Which makes sense because it's not like the fans refer to it fully.

According to the Gogyoufuuin page, the Shishofuuins placed on Naruto were there to protect him from the Kyuubi's power.

...oh wait, you're asking in general. Well, you can probably stop their rampages, and maybe they were supposed to be sealed in non-living containers first, but ehhhhh that's all old theory at this point.

So I'll finish it now to start on whatever's needed.

Kekkei Genkai
A special trait related to a blood heritage

These are unique techniques or abilities that depend on genetic factors. A Kekkei Genkai grants various abilities to its heirs, who now have powers far beyond those of common people. When someone with a Kekkei Genkai acquires a ninja technique, its effect may be unbelievable...!

Some Kekkei Genkai...
Up to volume 14, three Kekkei Genkai have been identified, each one with extraordinary abilities and impossible for normal people. Not only that, what was revealed of these powers thus far has only been the tip of the iceberg...

Byakugan (White Eyes)
^ Allows for looking through objects and also the keirakukei, that is, the vital lines that move the chakra through all the body.

Sharingan (Copying Wheel)
^ Grants the user great awareness, hypnosis and the ability to copy techniques.

?
^ Haku's Ice Crystal technique lets him move from one mirror to the next at the speed of light.

The tragic fate of those who have special abilities...
Haku's clan had extraordinary powers; due to that, they were manipulated by the powerful men of the Water Country, who used them as weapons of war. The fighting reached such a point that the nation was ruined and the clans bearing Kekkei Genkai were humiliated and accused of bringing death and destruction. To protect themselves, they started hiding their lineage and lived afraid of being found out.

v> Haku was almost killed by his father due to his lineage...

Clans with special powers in the Hidden Leaf Village...
In the Hidden Leaf Village, the clans bearing Kekkei Genkai live normally, unlike in other countries, where it's hard to survive without hiding your lineage. In fact, the Leaf Village folk respects and fears the clans that inherited special abilities and considers them elite ninja.

Inheriting your powers also depends on luck
Even if the parents have a Kekkei Genkai, nothing ensures their children will inherit the same power. Not only that, there's no way to know when or how much power will awaken within oneself. There are no rules for Kekkei Genkai and it depends on luck.

< The Sharingan inheritance is rare even among the Uchiha clan.
^ The branch line overcame the main line. He learned Hiashi's technique on his own!

Knyght

Teensy bit more info on the Land of Water is always a plus. Strange that Kishimoto's highlights Haku's unnamed kekkei genkai. But this was around the same time when Wood Release wasn't even a kekkei genkai so I guess he really didn't know what's what back then.

Anyway, here are the jutsu that haven't been translated at all yet: Cursed Seal, Cloak of Invisibility, Senbon Shower, Thousand Flying Water Needles of Death and Rope Escape. More than I thought there were, tbh.

H-Man

Random phantom.
Juinjutsu (Cursed Seal Technique)
Juinjutsu, Support, Short Range, A Rank
A demonic mark that draws out evil chakra!

A technique that marks the victims whose talent and nature were approved by Orochimaru. He who receives this mark suffers a terrible pain, and few survive it. The juin reacts to the chakra and consumes it indefinitely, even as it strengthens the evil side. Among his known victims are Sasuke and Anko, who once was Orochimaru's subordinate.

< A juin was marked on his neck...! What will happen to Sasuke from now on...?!

The main lineage and the branch lineage... the seal of fate marked by the Hyuuga clan's tradition!
A juin marked by the main lineage of the Hyuuga clan on the forehead of the members of the branch lineage. This juin reacts to a secret seal activated by the main lineage and can inflict intense pain or even cause death. It was created to protect the clan's Kekkei Genkai, the Byakugan, and forces the branch lineage to never contradict the main lineage. When a member of the branch lineage dies, this juin seals the Byakugan's secrets in their corpse.
Kakuremino no Jutsu (Cloak Camouflage Technique)
Ninjutsu, Support, E Rank
A not-at-all efficient technique where you cover up with a cloak...!

It's the technique Konohamaru used to follow Naruto. It consists in covering oneself with a cloak with similar color and texture to its surroundings to hide one's very presence. The technique is used in intelligence operations or to prepare ambushes. The better the ninja who performs it, the more effective the camouflage, which isn't Konohamaru's case.
^< The fence's texture and the cloak's are too different! It was obvious he'd be found out.
Jouro Senbon (Needle Storm)
Ninjutsu, Attack, Medium Range, C Rank
A needle storm that attacks in all directions!

This is a technique that uses thousands of needles that fall from all directions. The jutsu consists in throwing umbrellas containing the needles and spinning them in the air so they'll be released, then control them through chakra to land in the target's direction. Each needle can penetrate a five milimeter-thick steel plate and, since the attack comes from all directions, it's impossible to evade them all.

A murderous instinct that flies through the sky in the shape of a silver needle rain!
^> Controlling so many needles demands a lot of training.
Sensatsu Suishou (Thousand Deadly Needles)
Ninjutsu, Attack, Short and Middle Range, B Rank
A thousand needles made of water attack the enemy from all sides!

The technique consists in attacking the target from all sides with small portions of water turned into thin, sharp needles. Despite bieng made of water, they're fired with an incredible speed, making them terrible weapons! Surely, a victim struck by all one thousand needles would suffer a fatal injury...

> The countless needles made of water attack the enemy precisely!
^ Haku can make seals with a single hand, an extremely rare ability.
Nawanuke no Jutsu (Escape Technique)
Ninjutsu, Support, E- Rank
A technique to escape a difficult situation

A ninja must be able to escape any situation, as desperate as it may be. Of all the techniques with escape purposes, this is the most basic of all and consists in untying the knot or dislocating the body's articulations to escape the bindings. It's the first technique taught to the students in the Hidden Leaf Village's Ninja Academy. Even if basic, it's more complex than it seems.

^ Skilled, Sasuke displayed a perfect example of using this technique.
Anything people didn't know?

I was referring specifically to page 159, listing the examples of Forbidden Techniques.

Using a comma instead of a hyphen suggests "Kuchiyose" and "Edotensei" are two different techniques, while instead it's the full name of the technique(the only technique listed as "forbidden because morality")

Seals are supposed to work on a metaphysical level(from databook #3, IIRC), so I guess it's "keep it inside Naruto's system"

Damn, that was fast.

Anything people didn't know?
Lessee... there's Juinjutsu being an A-rank jutsu (and a single technique for some reason), the implication that people actually use that camoflauge jutsu on missions (shame it's never shown in a series countext), the slight elaboration that Haku's one-handed seals were "an extremely rare ability", and the fact that the rope jutsu actually involves dislocating their body parts.

Onto the character bios: Anbu and Anko.

It's Water Country. Not Mist. That specific part is outdated.

Anbu (Rank: Anbu)
The Hokage's subordinates: Leaf Village's elite squad

Their official name is 'Special Assassin Military Squad' (Ansatsu Senjutsu Tokushu Butai). They cover their face with white masks, which imitate animals and reveal nothing of themselves due to the nature of their missions. The Anbu is composed of ninjas selectively picked from the entire village and that follow no standard classification, like genin, chunin or jonin. They're a faceless squadron that protects the Hokage and the village from the shadows. Being the direct subordinates to the Hokage, only he can give them missions. The feats of the Anbu are not officially released.

^ Anbu easily immobilizes the giant tigers.
< Even Anko respects the Anbu.
Anko Mitarashi (Rank: Special Jonin)
Once one of Orochimaru's subordinates! The most dangerous kunoichi in all of the Hidden Leaf Village!

"We're continuing the Chunin Exam! Come with me!

She was the Chunin Exam's second phase examiner who made an overblown display: she broke one of the building's windows where they were performing the Exam's first phase and went right in! Contrasting with her happy demeanor, sometimes she shows a wicked smile, making her seem dangerous and even deadly... just like Orochimaru...

Anko learned everything she knows from Orochimaru. As well as her master, he was her terror: he placed a cursed seal on her. Orochimaru infiltrated the Chunin Exam to execute his plan to destroy the Hidden Leaf Village. When she found him, Anko tried to use a technique she learned from him, and planned on giving her own life to kill him. Maybe Anko believes that sacrificing herself to protect the Leaf Village is the best way to pay back the kindness of the place where she was raised.

^ Naruto had no reaction when Anko happily licked his blood...!
< Her juin was sealed by the Third Hokage.
< Anko's shocking past was revealed by Orochimaru! Seems like their relationship was very deep...

What a copout explanation. No one has figured out how kekkei genkai work yet? Not even the mad scientists who regularly transplant and experiment on them like Orochimaru and Kabuto? Or is this section saying that it is literally random and therefore impossible to ever truly understand the mechanics of bloodline awakening and inheritance?

Basically the latter. Even if both Fugaku and Mikoto had had the Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan, there'd be no insurance that either Itachi or Sasuke would awaken the Sharingan at the age they did, awaken the Sharingan at the same level as they did, or ever be able to achieve the Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan on their own.

Similarly, just because Sasuke has the Rinnesharingan in one eye, it doesn't mean Salada can awaken it on her own.

But of course, I must remind everyone that this is only the info from the first half of Part 1. If there was more detail in the future, it'd certainly be told to us.

Makes me wonder whether kekkei genkai should have been a fair bit rarer within their own clans. It's kind of treated as a given that a clansmen will get a kekkei genkai rather luck of the draw.

Baki (Rank: Jonin, Hidden Sand)
A high level ninja from the Hidden Sand Village who acts behind the scenes of Orochimaru's plan!

"Shinobi are, essentially, instruments of war."

He's a skilled and respected ninja, who works under the Kazekage's orders and takes part in the Chunin Exam, commanding Gaara's team. Acted behind the scenes with the Sound Village to execute Orochimaru's plan, who sought to crush the Leaf Village. Not only did he serve as a bondsman with the Hidden Sound Village, but he also kept watch over Gaara's team. He understands his village's situation, weakened due to their alliance with the Leaf Village, which, in practice, reduced the Sand Village's military power. He has a high ability to adapt to the changes in his surroundings, as well as being a brave and daring commander.

^> Despite Gaara's troublesome behavior, Baki led the trio and waited for the time to execute the plan.

In Also VERY against such kind of "corrections", as changing shit info something different because you think it's better results into people not being able to trust your translation.

I take Kekkei Genkai are like birth Mystic Eyes in Nasuverse... I am not one of the most studious in the series, but I remember it being said in Kagetsu Tohya something like that they do not always manifest even within children, but that breeding among possessors makes the chance of them appearing higher.

Look, I'm not a goddamn literalist. The fact of the matter is, this is not 2001 where fan translations were early on and people thought nakama had no valid translation ever so don't even try it.

The official country is Water. The official village is Mist. Mizu no Kuni and Kirigakure no Sato. You can argue that I'm not using the correct terms the fanbase does, but in part that's because I'm not even a main fan so I'm not going to look back on sixteen years of a fanbase to understand it.

I'm NOT going to use 'Kiri no Kuni' because my understanding is that it's not the correct term. Haku's from the Water Country. The men obsessed with Kekkei Genkais were from the Water Country. Hidden Mist is in the Water Country. Therefore, the correct term is the Water Country, not the Mist Country.

The stats are relative Knight. Haku's taijutsu and genjutsu were shit compared to his ninjutsu and speed, but they may have still been better than Sakura's. There is no objective scale given for the databook stats so we can only make educated guesses as to what each specific number means.

Hell we don't even have detailed explanations for what each category means. What does the handseal number mean? Speed of forming long strings of seals? Number of non-standard seals learned such as hiden jutsu seals and one-handed seals? Mastery of seals such that one can perform jutsu without needing to form every required handseal?
