Like the Pain vs. Six-Tailed Naruto? It could have been one of the coolest fights ever. Instead it looked like something out of Looney Tunes. I mean holy shit that's bad.

Fuckmothering Sage Kabuto in Ultimate Ninja Storm 3! Permanent awakening, low-level Super Armor, infinite chakra and Substitution, MASSIVE boosts to attack and defense and more makes it even more bullshit and infuriating than the Legend six Jinchuriki battle in the forest. After several dozen retrys, I had to stop playing before I put a fist through my monitor. Fucking cheating computer.

So there's been two episodes of the Second Chuunin Exam Arc thus far, with the official terrible name of "Naruto's Back: Friends' Track".

Sakura joins up with Team 10 as most would have predicted but not before wallowing in her insecurities for ten minutes or so.

Hanzo's already been killed but Pain (Konan, technically) is keeping up the charade of his leadership to fool the other villages. For some reason Ame was guarded by a bunch of guys with spears which would have looked less out of place outside an actual village. Have we even seen a ninja wielding a spear in the manga?

I expect there'll be a boom of Naruto x Fu after this; she's very much the cheerful, unpredictable type from what we've seen. Her jinchuuriki status seems to be a secret outside the village. And the leader of the Hidden Waterfall from the OVA shows up here, talking about how their village used to be badass which is why they got a bijuu.

Haven't seen much of the contestants yet. But it sounds like we've got two jounin pretending to be genin along with Fu...kinda hope they get discovered, really.

...But didn't Shikamaru sacrifice himself and his teammates on two different missions? He was the decoy that faced death against the twenty or so sound-nin during the invasion, and he had to leave every teammate behind to fight a powerful enemy just to hope to retrieve Sasuke.

I figured the answer was going to be "Me". So they're willing to make sacrifices but value their comrades as well. And everyone who sacrificed a teammate should have still been qualified but have to continue the exam with a handicap, like how you would have to carry on the mission with a man down.

Which makes pretty much every other battle we've seen in-series look like two babies squabbling over a toy.

It was a fairly amusing episode that served to introduce a few characters and up the tension alittle.

And now I really do feel sad that Naruto and Fuu never met. They would of been amazing together.

I knew the day would come when we'd have another Rock Lee-type character. I'd have liked to have seen more action from those "bad" genin, especially the guy with extra arms.

Lack of Fu makes me sad though.

Edit: And why would someone use a bow to fire kunai instead of arrows? That was odd. As was specialising in seeing the reflections of a water droplet when you live in a desert country.

Tenten is like a min-maxing munchkin player in a D&D game who tries to break the game by pushes the rules to the limits and prepares equipment for every conceivable situation.

"You mean I can seal anything in these scrolls?"

"Well, yes, technically, but it depends on your sealing skill and the size of the scroll."

"What if I maxed out sealing and put my leftover points in weapon use, and I spend most of my starting money to buy a two hundred pound scroll? How much could I fit in that?"

"Uh... the game manual chart doesn't go that high... Don't you think that scroll is a little excessive? Are you sure you don't want to learn some ninjutsu instead?"

"Nope I'm good. Where's the nearest hardware store? I gotta stock up on supplies."

So after the relatively decent Team Gai mini-arc, we have a 2 episode Team 8 arc.

It was pretty shit. Between the focus on Kiba's inferiority complex regarding Naruto, no development/attention toward Shino, and the fat ninja whose entire gimmick is being a smelly fat man, it was practically unwatchable.

Let's hope next episode, focusing on Tenten, will be an improvement.

Yes.

Returning to Team Gai was obviously the correct choice as the quality shoots back up.

We get info on Tenten's Sealing, get introduced to the Team Rain sbplot and get Tenten characterization.

Gai kind of annoyed me this episode.

Tenten came to him with a serious concern regarding her next step and he tried to brush her off and pigeonhole her as support.

Bugged me lots.

Naruto Kai

For the uninitiated, Naruto Kai is an abridged version of the anime that removes filler, OPs/EDs, recaps, and previews. Several episodes are merged together to create one long episode, and each episode covers its respective manga volume (Episode 1 covers what's in Volume 1 of the manga, Episode 5=Volume 5, Episode 20=Volume 20...You get the picture).
