Naruto Times the anime one-upped the manga

Most of the anime voice acting is annoying, the animation is garbage, and 90% of the anime filler plots were dumb as hell, what with 300 dumb variations of rasengan (including his throwing the fucking thing!) and 20 variations of basic "rescue the princess" plots), but there were a few good moments. Like when team 7 spent an afternoon trying to see what Kakashi's face looked like under the mask and they even got Sasuke genuinely interested. That episode actually made me laugh.
No, but unless there's an old topic I missed, there are no other places to discuss the anime.
ep 246. Some really good moments this ep. Minato being a boss was pretty nice, as was Kushina making that genin look pathetic - the whole outsider angle was a little weird though. My only real minus was the way Kushina got taken - running and screaming for help like helpless child, and not the genin she was. She could have at least fought back a little.

Because it doesn't mesh well with what we know - i.e she was slated to be the next Kyuubi container.
Her considering herself an outsider/ others considering her one was understandable, but the idea that she didn't think anyone would come for her when she knows her role for the future is strange.
Unless she didn't know her role at that time, which begs the question, when was she told.
That was strange to me, not the idea itself.
And yeah, I would have preferred her being sneak attacked or even going down kicking and screaming, not running away like she was. Then again, if she was just made genin and this was her first encounter with foriegn/hostile nin...

doubt it, only Team 7 was shown to have engaged shinobi above their rank, and most of the fighting was done by their Sensei Kakashi.
Haku we can assume to be at the very least chuunin level and he was just running circles on both naruto and sasuke until naruto went berserk.
sound four themselves were nearly tagged by two jounin/chuunin so aside from kimimaro the rest of them are barely hitting on chuunin unless they go stage 2 curse seal, even then they are still a bunch of 13-15 year olds that I doubt orochimaru taught more than to hit hard and fast.
barring cases like naruto and gaara and curse sealed sasuke the rookie 9 were just your average genin.
and shikamaru was the luckiest of them all since someone always saves his ass just in the nick of time.

The entire Rookie 9 made it through the first two parts of the Chuunin Exam despite it being their first time, against god-knows how many older genin with more experience. The only one who's actually a "normal" rookie genin would be Sakura; average chakra, average physical ability and only the three academy jutsu.
Whilst calling them "ungodly monsters" is an exaggeration, the Rookie 9 are far above average genin.

And I'm saying that regular non-curse seal Sasuke is hitting the chunin levels for power ranks even as a genin. They may not be capable of taking out Kakashi and Zabuza, elite jounin, but they are very capable of beating 'average' genin and potentially capable of beating a chunin rank ninja.

You forgot to mention Guys team.

And finally, one more thing. Preliminaries don't usually exist. They were only introduced because there were so many Genin who got through the forest.
By all rights, each of those teams should have been in the Third round.
