Shinji knew what to do.
As the elevator doors were opening, his foot launched forward for a devastating attack.
"Great street punk, my ass," Shinji sneered as Commander Ikari went down.
Shinji nodded as the doors closed. His therapist in the last Loop had been right--well, before Gendo had him silenced anyway. That had felt very therapeutic.
In fact, he might have to do that for every Loop from now on.

Maybe, but I just had another thought, to screw around with Gendo, suppose later on he 'confesses' to him that all was going according to plan, the original Gendo's when Third Impact happened.
One thing did happen, his wife was brought back, but not by Gendo, Shinji was the one that did it, fueled by that thought, Gendo changed things, went back in time to become Shinji, so that 'he' would be the hero, so if things seem predictable and failing in following his plans, it is because he who 'thinks' of himself as Gendo, is not.. he is in reality Shinji, the Failure.
Think that thought would fly in his warped reality?

Remove Gendo? Incievable! Just for the fact 'Shinji' wants Gendo around until the End, to 'rescue' his wife/ mother and have Gendo see it, to 'Show' him how things are supposed to have turned out in the 'Perfect Ending'.
Maybe with Shinji sitting at Gendo's desk, in Gendo's 'Trademark' pose, hidden in shadow, fingers steepled, intoning "All according to plan... "
