I have to say, battlefield 5 placing realism or historical accuracy tot he side in favor of fun is fantastic. Who honestly cares what race or gender video game solders are?
It depends on how they're marketing it.
If they're claiming that it is realism, that's one thing. I haven't seen any indication that they are, but they haven't really clarified it either.
If they're throwing that out and outright going full steampunk fantasy, that's another. It seems they might be mildly moving in that direction given the prosthetic arm we see in the trailer and how functional it is.
They seem to be leaning towards the latter, but haven't clarified that and it's a bit murky regarding exactly what they are doing.
I kind of get where some of the complaining is coming from, even though I do think it's a bit silly. I mean, the trailer isn't even trying to make it seem like real World War II. At one point the first person character brings down a plane by shooting a grenade in mid air.
It almost looks like they're doing a Nazi Invasion of the British Isles, which suggests a Wolfenstein style alternate reality, which I'm all for.
This seems like it might be more Bad Company as far as sensibilities than previous recent entries.
I think they need to do something like that, because just doing WWII seriously again isn't going to work because of just how much that's been done. They don't have to go full Resistance Fall of Man on us, but can't really play it completely straight and expect to keep people's interest.
Too bad I probably won't ever play it because it's EA.
