Not an apartment, but a single room. About the only problem might be one of height. As for why? For the LOLs
Not even for the LOLs.. Because lets be completely honest here... Ball Pits are freaking awesome.

Rather simple change, the first girl Keitaro meets in the hot spring at the series start isn't Naru.

I'm thinking Kitsune or Su here.

Everyday life with a Monster Boy.

Keitaro is a hybrid of human and "Monster" his mother being one of the first of her people to integrate into society. Growing up was tough for Keitaro, and he didn't have a lo of friend due to is alien nature. Now, he's being invited by his Paternal grandmother to run Hina Inn for her while she's away. How will these normal girls deal with an abnormal manager?

Notes: Keitaro is not part Dragon, Vampire, werewolf or any of the monster girls seen in the manga "Everyday life with Monster-girls". That said I'm not sure what to make him (though Oni might work, the horns and the weaknesses described in certain folk tales could be interesting) so I am open to suggestions.

Possession

If you've read "Legion" by Brandon Sanderson you could call this a similar concept except these really are spirits, and they're from all over the world. Keitaro's been living with them for years now, and has gotten used to them more or less. At this point in his life they only take over when he "Zones Out" doing something within there sphere of influence or when his life (the life of someone he cares about) is in danger and they have the skills he needs. I have three out of five spirits more or less worked out. One is a traditional japanese woman from a Samurai family. She's in her mid to late 20's, has a talent for history and Japanese culture along with a talent for using a Naginta. Another is apparently a farmer from the US Mid-West, who was either in the army corps of Engineers or a Seebee considering his skill with his hands. The third one is a musician from somewhere in South America who likely committed a number of crimes before finding this new path in life.

I'm still fleshing this out, but the idea is that Keitaro has these other skill sets to call upon, which can lead to awkward situations. Say he'll be fixing up some damage to the Inn when one of the girls asks him a question and he answers in a thick Kansai dialect as if spoken by a 60 year old man...because that's whose in charge at the moment. This also leads to Keitaro indulging in things only he has an interest/talent for as a way to keep the spirits at bay. So this Keitaro is often found cooking, and drawing when he needs some "ME" time from his "Companions". This could result in him tutoring Shinobu in the finer points of cooking.

Lot of places to go with this, like the oddness of the Yamato Nadeshiko Spirit trying to make a proper lady out of Kitsune....or being to Tsuruko Aoyoma what Sgt. Deegan was to Green Lantern Kilowog.

Mokoto's arms burned as she gripped her weapon, knees shaking with the strain of keeping her upright, her teacher, her tormentor, peering at her from behind that man's eyes. His voice, her tone, speaking calmly despite all that was happening. "Thinking fondly of those gentle, Halcyon days under your sisters instruction?" she quirked an eyebrow before striking again. Motoko's nearly dead arms barely moving, nowhere near enough to fend off those blows as 'she' twirled her weapon and struck again and again. "She obviously coddle you too much!"
Thoughts, suggestions?

That sounds like a really good idea, Ordo. I'd imagine that it would take the girls some time to accept a guy having a few spirits in him. I think Motoko might have a running gag of trying to exorcise Keitaro and it turning into her getting a 'lesson' from the Yamato Nadeshiko Spirit.

I honestly see the Farmer guy somehow being able to get Su to calm down about the destructiveness of her machines... somehow.

Anyone here ever play a game called Okami? Would Keitaro somehow being a descendant of Ammy be any good or would it be one of those 'super-powered Keitaro' stories that tend to run into the ground after a few chapters and never get updated?

For those that Never played it, Keitaro would have powers, but they would need calligraphy or merely having a ink brush to be used. Need the sun raised? Draw a circle in the sky. Need it to be night? Draw a crescent moon in the sky. Need to fix something? Draw over the broken part. Need to wash something? Draw a line from water to the thing that needs to be washed.

calligraphy would be used for the more advanced powers, like bomb making or controlling the wind.

Chances are this might be better off as a fancomic than story. And yes, there is a part of me that says, 'Interesting, but all this does is add some more wish-fulfillment to Love Hina and does not really add anything to the story that is a big change. sure, making Keitaro's art abilities take more of a center stage is nice, but does it do anything else?' about the Okami power additions.

Variation on a theme here:

Lets say Keitaro and Motoko were dating since early on in the series, and wanted to tie the knot, but were afraid their families wouldn't go for it. At first, they were quite despaired by all this, until Motoko got leaked info about her sisters visit, and Motoko had an idea.

They would just lie about their engagement. Tsuruko would naturally be distrusting on any sudden declaration, so to force a response, they would fake some obvious signs of not being a real couple, knowing that Tsuruko would force the issue to make Motoko an honest woman.

In other words, tricking her into organizing a shotgun wedding, with some tough alternative to getting out of it.

So it ends win win for them. Win and Tsuruko would basically acknowledge Keitaros worth and be okay with a relationship. Fail, and Tsuruko would force them to marry, and end result they are perfectly okay with.

I'm thinking Tsuruko actually falls for it, and throughout the fic, you think it's just a retelling of Burn up blade, with a few winks and nods that something is going on. Tsuruko only learns the truth when they leave a thank you gift behind in the end, which to her shock, is a photobook, filled with photos of Motoko and Keitaro's dating life, revealing that it was all a setup, and they were a legit couple.

Pretty clever, I like it, though I do have issue with it... forcing a marriage between them to preserve propriety and honor does not mean the Aoyama family would look upon Keitaro with honor and acceptance... but with at best mixed feelings...

We are talking old school families, with multiple hints given that each has quite the influence and money. I would imagine this would bypass the entire normal talks between families and such.

On the other hand, this would mean pulling one not just on Tsuruko or the Aoyoma family, but upon Granny Hina, always a plus.

I cannot picture this couple actually wanting to do that to their families.

The canon couple? No. But if we do an Alternate Universe story, it might well work out. Another way of looking at it is like a serious of unexpected plot-twists involving the entire cast for some oddity or the other. The marriage could be the cumulation of it all.

We could write around that in a few ways, examples:

1. Some of the family know about their relationship, and are willing to do the resulting cleanup control after the fact. After all, someone tipped Motoko off.

2. As bizarre as it sounds, strange wedding stories are the bread and butter of the families storytimes, hence the nonstop hijinks potential that the cast is regularly involved in. The gruff and serious Tsuruko being tricked into basically planning, paying for, and doing all the paperwork, decorating, etc for her little sisters wedding to the man she always intended to marry? Hell of a story to share for the holidays.

Before running the sweet shop, Keitarou's parents worked in another more dangerous and secretive line of work. Unfortunately, said past comes knockin one day and his father - now Rei Urashima formerly Suzumura - have no choice but to pass down to his one and only son a pair of swords and the armor it's connected to.

Basically, Keitarou as a Makai Knight - in this case, Silver Fang Zero. Pairing could prbably be either Tsuruko or an older Sarah

I imagine a story told in flashbacks, as Tsuruko interviews each of the Hina girls about how Keitaro and Motoko got together, and they try to avoid contradicting each other, while not having a good chance to coordinate their stories (or in some cases, knowing they need to).

Thoughts?

I want to write it, but am missing that spark of a story. Needs a bit more spice, this idea does.

how about Tsuruko gets an envelope addressed from her sister, inside containing a postcard from some exotic location, and a picture of Her and Keitaro. Written on the back: "We eloped! See you soon, Nee-san!"

Tsuruko, once she recovers from her momentary loss of composure, heads to the dorms to investigate. Finding that Motoko and Keitaro still haven't returned, she interviews each of the dorm mates, to get a feel for the hows and whens.

I was imagining something much closer to canon (up until she starts interviewing people, at least), but this is pretty amusing.

Taking to the extreme, how about one where everyone suddenly vanishes for a week or so, only to return, to find that everyone had eloped with someone else?

For example, Kitsune Eloped with Seta, Keitaro eloped with Motoko, Naru eloped with Mutsumi, and Su eloped with Shinobu.

They all arrive back the same day, expecting to drop their bombshell, only to have one bomb turn into a damn air raid.

Hmmm... probably would muck up Granny's plans... I like that aspect nicely.

Not too sure on those pairings though.

Yeah, the way these pairings seem so forced makes for it to be too contrived to appeal to me.

But what do I know about anything?

Pairings were at least partially decided by canon stuff. Kitsune had a crush on Seta, Motoko was in love with Keitaro, Keitaro once dreamed about Mutsumi and naru together, and well, su and shinobu were just the only ones left.

Main issue is well, there just aren't a lot of canon males, unless you bring in Keitaro's friends who suddenly hook up with one of the other cast mates (has anyone even tried that sort of pairing?) Granted, you could do crossovers with other series if needed.

I've gotten an idea in my head that instead of Keitaro, after not finding anyone and going into the hot springs when he first arrives, is heard by Naru who is on her way to the hot springs calling out for "Granny Hina/Aunt Haruka." She stops him asking why he's there and he explains that he had gotten the fax from Hina to meet her there. (I cant remember if that was the reason for him arriving in the first place or not.)

From there a series of unfortunate events cause Naru to hide Keitaro in her room where they get caught by Motoko in a compromising position. (Remember, Naru wouldn't think that Keitaro is a pervert because she never found him in the hot springs.)

For added humor, Motoko could even call Naru the pervert if she is on top of Keitaro. (It might even look like Naru's pinning Keitaro to the ground.)

This would end up being a Keitaro/Naru pairing.

Depending on the continuity, Keitaro did not receive a fax about going there, he was outright told to go there and visit by Granny herself. Granny then decided to deliberately set him and the girls up and not be there for it. Aunt Haruka was in on it. Then using a Fax Granny made him the owner, in such a way that he could not really back out, nor would she be present for the discussion.

It is one of the reasons I despise Granny Hina so much and generally go out of my way to read Love Hina stories where she gets what should be coming to her for causing that mess... Always annoyed me she got away with it in the actual series material...

If I recall correctly, in the manga Keitaro went there of his own accord, thinking it was still an inn, but nonetheless hoping he could stay there while he studied.
