Original Video Animation

The first animated production of One Piece was an original video animation under the name One Piece: Defeat The Pirate Ganzak! (ONE PIECE ??!????????, Wan P?su: Taose! Kaizoku Gyanzakku?). It was produced by Production I.G, directed by Gor? Taniguchi and featured character settings by Oda,[citation needed] for the Jump Super Anime Tour in 1998.

The episode features a different voice cast and staff from the later TV series by Toei Animation and spanned a total of 30 minutes. Tatsuya Hamazaki created a novel version of the story (ISBN 978-4087030846).[35]

The episode starts with Luffy, Nami, and Zoro being attacked by a Sea King, that destroys their boat and separates them. Luffy is found on an island beach, where he saves the little girl Medaka, from two pirates. All the villagers, including the Medaka's father, have been taken away by Ganzak and his crew, as forced laborers. After hearing that Ganzak also stole all the food, Luffy and Zoro rush out to get it back. As they fight the Pirates, one of them kidnaps Medaka. A fight starts bewteen Luffy and Ganzak, ending in Luffy's capture. Meanwhile, Zoro is urged into giving up, by threatening to kill the village people. The people from the village rise up against the Ganzak and while the islanders and pirates fight, Nami goes and unlocks the three. Ganzak defeats the rebellion and reveales his armoured battleship. Now it is up to the Straw Hats, to "Defeat The Pirate Ganzak!" and prevent him from destroying the island.

The hell?! I never knew Production I.G. made a One Piece OVA.

Timewave is now downloading it. Because anything by Production I.G. can't suck.

What luck! And it does win. One Piece Fanart rocks. :snigger:
Some good stuff to be found concerning just about every facet of the manga.

For fanart that really knocks you back I recommend hyrohiku on dA.

@Timewave: Ooh. Movie, seems interesting enough.

No love for Monster Point? Shame, anyway...

New Chapter:

"The Swindling Forest" Green Stone seems to be Ussops landing point. Filled with man-eating plant and insect life, it likes he'll have to stay under the care of the cool sounding Herucle-Sun for protection. I can see him coming back with a whole new set of exotic stars, and gimmicks.

Nakamura Island "The Island of Poverty" is playing host to Brook under the belief that they've summoned a Demon, for the express purpose of warfare. I foresee the power of music being used to soothe bad feelings and make things right. But before that there will be panties.

BridgeTop Country "Tequilla Wolf" thinks they've got a new unexpected prisoner to slave on their island bridge, but I expect Rebellion. Could be rather crazy seeing as many of the labourers are criminals. Its another point against the World Gov't as well seeing as those who chose not to follow them were imprisoned also.

Torino Kingdom or the "Isle of Treasure" wants to make a stew out of Chopper. Or at least the people at the bottom do. Ruled by birds nesting above I wonder if it'll be the animal or human side of Chopper that comes to the fore during his island stay.

Kuraigana Island, the home of Ruins of the Shikkearu Kingdom holds the biggest surprise, by Zoro being hosted by Ghost Princess Perona. Admittedly distraught by her lack of servants she may very well use the crash-landed swordsman to her convenience. Her introduction was also interesting in that it could be proof that Kuma really sends you where you want to go. It makes me curious to what the strawhats were thinking.

Man but Kuma can blast you, if you have members of the crew being shot to other quadrants of the world...

With Luffy it looks like he's stuck in the room with Boa. I called the food bit, seems like it's going to be five-hundred kilos a day and the marines willing to die of starvation as harsh as her demands are "Because she is Beautiful".

All that and the increased suspense caused by the gathered Shichibukai(Blackbeard seemed to have recieved the spot for his troubles), amassed accomplished fighters, and the promise of an unrelenting Whitebeard pirate crew, really have me excited for the next chapters.

Nice summary, though you missed the reappearance of Smoker and his minion.

I'm pretty sure Perona will go with Zoro, and will probably either join the Strawhats (temporarily or permanently), and/or turn on them when she sees her old boss.

Someone is going to join their crew during this story arc (probably a girl), it's just a matter of who.

Possible Candidates:
Perona
Boa Hancock
Tashigi (assuming she somehow gets dragged along, I can see her working with the crew untikl they get to a point where she can get back to the Marines. Extremely unlikely though.)

Female
-------------
Nami
Robin

Male
-------------
Luffy
Zoro
Sanji
Chopper
Franky
Brooke(does he count as male considering he has no danglies?)

The girls are out number three to one so it wouldn't be all bad if all three joined eh?

I grouped them with 'amassed accomplished fighters', but I hadn't meant to, so yes Smoker and Tahshigi have reappeared.

I can see a new member possibly joining and a female member at that during this arc, but I wouldn't be surprised if it happened after passing into the New World.

Boa Hancock: I don't think she'll be the one to join, and the inevitable scene where they must depart will be filled with chaos. It will rather anti-climatically end with a promise by Luffy to see her again and/or a statement about her being one of his Nakama. Either statement will undoubtedly be taken radically out of context by the snake princess. Granted this is all based upon my still on the fence attitude with Boa, that really hasn't been helped by the 'Love Sickness', I still don't know what kind of person she's going to be. The LS and her normal attitude as seen before would make her reactions to the crew be in flux as well.

Perona: I think Boa is more likely, because while I like Perona's character I don't see her joining such a lively and bright crew(even if they do have a cute reindeer and a skeleton). Your mention of her possibly going back with Moiria seems most likely, especially for what she said on the Island. Throw in the fact that she has a reason to be hostile to the whole crew, especially Ussop, and it would get weird to have them all on the same ship.

Tashigi: She'll challenge Zoro, but I can't imagine her even remotely going to join the StrawHat Crew. Her and Smoker seems to be a permanent pair tied directly to the principles of the WG( Well not the exact principles, but the ideas of helping the world and all that.) I think even Smoker's death via the WG wouldn't turn her, and only make her shoot for the top to change things. And beat the hell out of the guys up there.EDIT: Yeah, read your bit to fast, I agree with that.

@Wingthesword:
First off, you forgot Ussop.

Second, I can't see that happening at all, at least not in anyway that could end well.

And of course Brook is a male, the skeletal structures differ slighty between gender. And more to the point Brook enjoys panties, so he's cool no matter what.

I just got an idea! What would Luffy with Simon's attitude be like? Actually quick question how old 'is' Luffy?

I can't account for the time passed in travel but he should be 17-18 years old by his departure date.

Luffy-17

Zoro-19 (This bugs me. He should be older, especially with how the character carries himself)

Nami-18

Ussop-17

Sanji-19 (Same opinion to him as I hold on Zoro.)

Chopper-15( I think this is his age in total, but he's eight years old post Devil Fruit.)

Robin-28

Franky- 38

Brook-49 (Again this one is suspect, because I'm not sure if its total or before death.)

Actually considering how near they are to the red line, they're pretty much at the corner of the world, as both the Red line and the grand line splits all the quadrants. However you do speak truth, as he launches you for three days straight pretty much...

Oh, you're right. I had forgotten about that, but yes, three days of flight can get you very, very far if uninterrupted.

Hopefully we won't have to wait for the end of the series before we get maps of the quadrants. I could see the map of the world Nami is creating coming at the end but passed areas should get some fleshing out.

Well, I can say for certain that Brooke is 88 years old. To be exact, he was 38 years old when he died and 50 years have passed since his death. I got this from the SBS page of volume 51. Also if I'm not mistaken, the ages for all the characters plus their birthdates are somewhere within the SBS pages of various volumes but I can't find my CD in which I burned them so I can't tell you exactly where it is.

I'm really dissapointed in myself for not realizing that and for how I've misremembered. I need to get around to catching up at the fansites, and finding a new one or two.

In anycase old perverted skeleton-man is awesome.

Its interesting how Luffy recruits characters much older than him, more skilled than him in some cases, and yet they would jump as high as he would ask of them if it came to that.
I think it's his disposition coupled with his proven determination. It doesn't matter how old, skilled or powerful because he doesn't care that they are but who they are, and it makes others judge him the same way.

It's that mutual respect and acceptance that has them jump. And it's because he'll jump with them, and for them, just as quickly that they'll jump again and even higher than what he asked.

@Frank Cadena: I found this link for some transferred SBS translations, is this more or less what you had, at least content wise?

Yup. That's it. Now I'm off to re-download the volumes. I must have complete collection... to go along with my Tankoubons. Sadly my Japanese is not good enough to completely read them but I've got to support the author somehow.

White beard is going to kick ass.... B) hmm I wonder what shanks is going to do...
Well if Shanks gets word that Luffy's going to raid Impel Down, then there is a possibility that Shanks will show up and if White Beard and Shanks show up in the same place, coupled with Luffy.

The amount of GAR and Badass will... I have no words to describe how awesome it will be.

Oh, I thought actual cursing was off limits, since I didn't see it much. Check my post count, man.

Now, after that awesome AMV a coupla pages ago, I'm getting the urge to actually watch the anime. Which is strange, since I usually just go with the manga, since the Naruto anime and it's pointless stalling left me rather jaded towards anime in general.

But I think I can once again open my heart to anime other than Rosario+Vampire. Thank you, JuniZoroFan of Youtube, thank you. :mmm:

Did anyone else think that Ussop found a couple of devil fruits? Look at page 3, the first panel.

No I'm pretty sure that's just the indigenous fruit that grows on that particular island. You have to remember, Devil Fruits are always found on the bottom of the ocean floor.
