Doctor Who

I'm really liking Roger Delgado's Master. He and Pertwee play off each other really well.
Yeah.

He died before Pertwee left the series. They wrote the Planet of the Spiders episode to replace a Master episode that was supposed to have been Pertwee's end.

Rumor has it, if Delgado hadn't passed away, it would have been revealed that the Doctor and the Master were brothers.

"Jenkins. Chap with the wings there. Five rounds rapid." I love the Brigadier.

I've heard this line in pop culture references before, but didn't know exactly where it came from until now. The Brig's turning into one of my favorite companions, even though he really isn't one. I'll be sad when they move on from the UNIT storylines.

... I would, however, really appreciate your opinions on Omega when you get to The Three Doctors. I swear, that story is such an unintentional comedy.
Sure, hopefully won't be too long now.

Interesting. I think I've heard this before, probably in a fic somewhere.

For fun, I'm gonna rank the best to worst "Final stories" for Doctors.

The War Games (#2)
Caves of Androzani (#5)*
The Time of the Doctor(#11)
Night of the Doctor (#8)
The Ultimate Foe(#6)**
Bad Wolf/Parting of the Ways(#9)
Logopolis(#4)
Survival(#7)
Planet of Spiders(#3)
Tenth Planet(#1)
The End of Time(#10) ***

I'd be interested in seeing your lists after tonight.

*Controversial, I know most would switch around these top two in the list. But I have a really great soft spot for the truly grand epic War Games. It's ten episodes, but uses them all very wisely.

**More for the first half than the second. That speech alone makes it. The one where he rallies against how corrupt the Time Lords are. Absolutely beautiful.

***This is actually unfair, because I might well rank being kicked square in the nuts higher than this piece of garbage. There are not enough words to express my dislike of this poorly written, convoluted, plot hole ridden stupid stupid stupid piece of trash.

I have to ask, why is everybody so afraid of the time lords coming back? Granted Rassilion had the End of Time thing but it seemed the high general either didn't know about it or opposed it. Sorta like the Didict and the Master Builder of themForerunners and their rivalry.

Because the second that the Time Lords returned, the Time War would kick off all over again. Which was why the Doctor didn't bring them back himself. He stayed on the planet to protect the people living there, because if he didn't then the other races would've destroyed the planet to keep them from ever being able to come back.

It does raise the thorny issue of how the Doctor can ever return to Gallifrey without kicking off the Time War again. An interesting conflict for his next incarnation.

Well. Yes. The Daleks hate everyone. It is their raison d'etre.

Even if not: The Time Lords would probably take the first opportunity to try to deal with them. They've probably been in this other universe long enough to recover form the war. The Daleks very nearly killed them. Not a chance they get another opportunity if they have anything to say about it.

Also, fun fact. It was originally intended for Power of the Daleks that the Daleks had actually wiped out the Doctor's people in a terrible war. This is hinted at in the story, never explicitly stated. But unfortunately ditched. Partly because Terry Nation wanted to use the Daleks in his own series, which he was trying to shop around.

I thought that Gallifrey was frozen in an instant of time, as in time didn't pass for them. Wasn't that the whole point?

Otherwise: Brilliant episode. I felt the Doctor was being kinda a dick sending Clara away, but he had good reasons, so... And I loved the bit with the Doctor meeting Clara's family. Her grandmother looked all too interested in playing twister, if you know what I mean. ;)

And was it just me, or was Capaladie's face hidden in the opening credits?

And just for fun.

I love the idea of Malcolm Tucker as The Doctor.

I can only hope that the outtakes contain some really good swearing when he fluffs his lines.

Scholar in a Locker: Episode 1-I Come In Pursuit Of Knowledge

"Alternate realities...It's hard to believe that somewhere out there is another Earth where theres another you and everything turned out so different. But it's not hard to imagine and that's all you really need, imagination"
-The Scholar

Atop a building a white light glows as a light blue locker appears almost out of thin air. Out steps a man who looks to be in his 20's with a blue hoodie, with a white dress shirt and black dress pants. He's pulls out what appears to be a silver pencil, encased in some sort of clear plastic tube. The tip of the pencil was covered in a smaller plastic tube that ended flat at the circular top with four small sticking out of the smaller tube. On top of the flat smaller tube was a small blue ring, and in the middle was a white light. At the bottom mysteriously was a silver key-lock inside the outer plastic tube. The Scholar waved the pencil object around all over as it made a humming sound.

Thats all for now Ps. the pencil object is called the Kinetic Pencil. Also the locker is called the Locker and the Scholar is a species called Mind King from another Earth.

So, when is the show scheduled to return? BBC-America's website only lists freaking repeats.

It's almost always like that.
I was under the impression the BBC split the season into 2 parts: one starting in late summer, the other starting just past / around the beginning of the new year. Isn't that how they did it last year?

According to what I have read online they decided against doing that and instead are just having it shown as a regular season in the fall.

Yeah, I didn't like how they split the season - it felt like 2 6 episode seasons and not one 12 episode season.

Though they might have been going for that, it felt flat to me.

That's what I've heard too. Apparently some parties in the BBC are annoyed there've been so few episodes over the past couple years.

They've already started shooting.

So what, the producers are going for a (U.S.) standard 26 episode season? Or one straight 13-week season?

The latter. They're never going to put together a 26 episode series. There's a reason why you get those "quiet" episodes which tend to be soft on the Doctor, they only have so much of a budget.
