To think when I made that post, I honestly thought nothing would come of it.
Here because I was being brief and only mentioning *examples in passing* I gave in straight TXT format:
- series
- crossover (if present)
- full title
- author
Normally, in forum BBCode format I give all that, plus:
- notice if it has graphic content
- download size
- # files in my copy
- known status
- a direct link if available
- up to 3 author site/profile links if available (will be up to 5 eventually).
- I can also give out RSS/ATOM links if known, though I normally hold those back since most do not use feeds.
How is that worse than those giving raw link and no information, or just a title, or in the general section no indicator of series. I see all that all the time in this forum and elsewhere and do not see people being called on it. I call a lack of full disclosure in links far more annoying than what I do. I do not care if someone uses a different format, but they could be nice enough to list it...
Overall, I get more compliments than complaints on the format, though sometimes it sure does not feel like it, this forum especially. That format dates back a bit to when it was made for Anifcs Delphi use in 2004, and to 2007 when I asked for opinions on old TFF for the BBCode format, so I've used it a long time.
About the only things I do not give are because I never bother tracking them, like description (I keep it in my head), word count (I prefer byte size count), and pairings (I do not overly care much on pairings).
I actually have an alternate format I made and even still output that was needed in 2009, which I internally call BBCode2 designed originally to meet the current rigid link requirements at the current Anifics when it opened for fanfiction link reporting, though the moderators there gave me permission to keep the normal format I use elsewhere for my own thread... Ironically, it is similar to the TXT metadata headers that FanFictionDownloader.NET and FanFiction Calibre plugins use, though more compact and made long before I saw either.
I'm going to for the first time turn this around... If you and others dislike the format I report in that much, I
*challenge* you guys to both
*come up with your own and use it* and
*stick* to it,
*and* to get the moderators or administrators to ask me to change it here to the alternate format.
Oh, and like all the other times you've made a complaint, and like for most of the other people whom have, I'll note it in my log file...
