Sailor Moon Question about canon Sailor Moon

Is the fact Sailor V happened in England fanon or canon?
Pretty much fanon. There was an episode in the anime in which Sailor V did some stuff in London, but it wasn't an adaptation of any Sailor V chapter. CSV took place pretty much in the Shiba district in Minato ward of Tokyo, with a couple of chapters in Greece and China.

How the HELL does she get gypped so much in fanfics?
The problem with some anime is that the makers feel compelled to add in more slapstick, or modify certain elements to be more acceptable to the public. Look at Full Metal Alchemist....now look at FMA: Brotherhood and note the differences. Another example is the OVA ending to Kenshin, and the actual manga ending.

Now let's look at the fanfic writers. The problem there is two fold. A lot of writers base their interrpretation of characters off the anime, which in Sailor Moons case really dosen't help. The second is personal bias. Let's look at 'The Last Airbender', for an example. According to a large portion of the Fanbase Katara should've Falen in love with Zuko despite the two barely talking to each other until the latter half of season 3. So take a flawed anime, mix in personl bias and add in a touch of emotionl investment in ones opinion and you get character like Minako and 'Mask' getting the shaft.

Venus was Usagi's best buddy in the manga. She needs more love.

Also, what exactly are supposed to be the canonical hair colours of Usagi, Chibi-Usa, and Princess Serenity? Usagi shows up on one of the chapter covers with pink hair, Chibi-Usa makes a cover appearance with platinum blond hair, and Serenity shows up once with blonde hair. I'm guessing the pink Usagi is just a one-off.
Silver hair is Princess Serenity and Queen Serenity.
Usagi's blonde turns silver in adulthood.
Chibiusa's pink turns silver in adulthood.

And again, just so that I'm clear on this: manga-wise, the Earth was the only body capable of sustaining life on its own, with the Moon Kingdom being sustained by magic (Usagi with Serenity's memories mentions at one point that on the Earth, she can feel the wind and smell the sea salt, things which she couldn't do on Earth, and Queen Serenity later said she would 'seal' away the Moon, which suggests it needed magic to be livable), while the other planets were similar to the Moon or had castles orbiting around it ala Venus?
Actually later arcs say that earth has just as much help as the Moon. Earth's sailor crystal is what keeps it alive just like the Ginzuishou is what kept the Moon alive.. It was just untouched by the fight. The other planets aren't livable until the fourth arc because they needed their sailor crystals.

Also you had the correct sequence of events of what happened in the first arc.

OK thanks Seiya.

And yes, Minako does need more love.

Oh and Chibiusa's pink hair seems to come from Usagi's mom. She started off as a pinkette until the re-releases of the manga made her hair blue to match the anime.

I honestly just figured that the Royal Family was supposed to have pink hair normally (thus why Usagi had the alternate pink hair colour on one of the Act covers) or something and Usagi got the genes for it in present day and passed it onto Chibi-Usa.

Into Arc 16 now. I guess Chibi-Usa hypnotised Shingo off-screen or something?

Royal Family seems to be all silver. Princess Serenity, Queen Serenity and Princess Lady Serenity are all silver haired when they reach maturity.

Ikuko was consistently a pink haired woman for the first run while Usagi's mostly a blonde. So it seems to just have skipped a generation.

Up to the end of Act 22 now.

Wow King Endymion is badass.

Mars, Jupiter and Mercury get put on a bus while Venus continues to get the spotlight love :p

Lemme guess, Sailor Pluto is another character the anime mangled and fanfic writers base personality off the anime version?

One other thing: the translation I'm using says Neo-Queen Serenity wanted to execute Death Phantom but couldn't because of his 'special powers'. Did NQS actually turn ruthless or is that just a bad translation?

Most translations I saw has NQS not wanting to kill because he was human.

Setsuna's personality comes out of their ass actually.

ah ok

that probably explains Ozz's works as well as the general fanon Pluto then

it honestly fits more with her showing in the manga to turn her boy-hungry like Minako than there is to turn her into psycho-bitch-manipulator

Done Black Moon Arc finally, think that's it for today. One thing that I have to nitpick about. NQS at the end says that she can't go near Usagi because past and future selves cannot be next to each other. Was King Endymion able to stick next to Mamoru solely because it wasn't his physical body that was present with Venus, Usagi and Mamoru for the arc, but rather a spiritual projection?

First couple of acts through Infinity.

So I see the SM animators decided to make Hotaru in the anime have purple hair

I wonder how many other color changes they made. They changed both Luna and Artemis' eye colors (blue and green respectively in the manga to red and blue), and of course Ikkuko from pink to blue.

Also, I meant to bring this up before, but I have a hard time believing manga Sailor Moon was supposed to be shoujo. Not with the monsters that Takeuchi drew it isn't!

Couple of Act 27 (tankobon numbering) observations: first, Hotaru has a damn really large bed, and Usagi seems to have negative character evolution after she begins to get up earlier midway through the Dark Kingdom arc only to lapse back into her lazy sleep mannerisms. Chibi-Usa is so stereotypically British, drinking tea and eating crumpets. Also holy shit Umino returns.

Since Eudial says she was 'Level 78', I assume that means that Pharoah 90 just means he has a rank of 90 and 89 would be the next-highest, 88 the third highest, etc?

To be fair to animators black hair usually have to have purple or blue highlights otherwise it'll just look off. Can't blame animators for that.

Usagi's just fought two evil empires and is exhausted. Usagi's never been ambitious if the world isn't about to blow up if she doesn't do well in school or sleeps in who cares about it? That's always how she's been. In the dark kingdom/black moon arcs she had to worry about Monster attacks 24/7.

Level 999 is the highest in the Witches 5, Eudial is the second lowest ranked member. Magus is above that and Kaorinite is Magus. Pharaoh 90 is just his name.

Though there is a lot of fanon potential in their actually being 89 other Pharaohs in the Tau.
Edit: Yeah. Takeuchi drew some fucked up monsters.

Ah, but Usagi hasn't 'just' fought two evil empires. Death Busters seems to take place at least a few months after Black Moon.

Anyways, up to Chapter 31 now. I wonder sometimes why the heroes occasionally act stupid. ie. Makoto "Oh I should be careful about anything from Infinity Academy, what is this, a plant bred at Infinity Academy, it will go perfect in my apartment!"

In any case, holy shit angry Hotaru is awesome

And I really haven't watched the anime at all, just picked up bits and pieces of the plot outline. Does Sailor Pluto go through the whole death and resurrection thing in the anime?

EDIT: Also is there a list of changes between the original release of the SM manga and the rerelease? One of the pages said Hotaru was born in "199x" and I do not believe that fits really well unless the rerelease moved the timeline ahead a decade and a bit...

I meant she's probably gotten back into bad habits after she defeated two empires and had a break for once which is understandable. She's gotten back that luxury. It makes sense she'd abuse it.

Pluto in the anime comes from the future. Doesn't die until the Infinity/Death Busters arc and comes back to life with no explanation in the Stars season.

That's probably what happened. They changed Sailor Chibi Chibi to Sailor Chibichibi Moon in the re-release too.

Badass.

Also lol @ how Kaolinite basically gets one-shotted in a single page

Act 36.

Hotaru is basically speaking with lesbian overtones  Mamoru's line about "I just feel like I gave my daughter away as a bride" is hilarious (not sure if translation-specific or not)

So how did Viz get around Hotaru prancing around in spirit form in her birthday suit, exactly? Did they just leave it be (unlikely), clothe her up, or what?

Also, is it ever explained how precisely Neo-Queen Serenity resurrected Setsuna nine hundred years in the past? Did she change history itself so that a girl was born who wasn't before who would turn out to be Setsuna's reincarnation? The only other thing I can think of is she found a body that would make a good host, and replaced the resident soul with Setsuna's soul, something I don't think NQS would do.

The Ginzuishou/Silver Moon Crystal is pure Reality Hax. Also, NQS is the 2nd most powerful form of Usagi's. So, she just made it so Pluto got reborn before she died to give her time to live a life of her own before having to go back to the Time-Space Door. Yes, this means there two of her exist from that point on until the one dies during the Black Moon arc. Also, the future is being constantly rewritten with everything that that takes place from the Black Moon arc on.

Yeah, but that doesn't answer my question.

Done the Infinity Arc now. Since the Inner Senshi just moved into High School, I guess that marks 2 years since the start of the series timeline.

Minako for the win with the "We can be failing buddies" comment.

It's never explained. I just assumed NQS when sending Pluto's soul backwards in time just changed history so another girl was born to be Pluto's reincarnation. In this Case, the Meious had a girl and named her Setsuna.

ok

in any case, Act 39 is hilarious with the byplay between Usagi, Chibi Usa and Mamoru. Chibi Usa basically has the opposite of an Oedipus complex for Mamoru. I like how nobody ever mentions that since Chibi is 900 years old, she's technically something like 55-60 times older than her mother and 50 times older than her father.

Anyways, major holding of the idiot ball. Really, Dead Moon Circus? C'mon somebody, show some genre savviness!

Drawing quality really went down for some reason in this act, though, since Usagi keeps looking like Makoto with her hair down.

and oh buddha attack of the furries

She's mentally a kid. So it doesn't count. :p

On a note, after reading the manga and seeing what Setsuna is like, I can now go into any fic using Sailor Pluto with a complete fanon personality and be all "...Have you even read the manga?"

On a second note, I love how two of the Amazons wear even shorter skirts than the Sailor Senshi do ^_^

Act 40.

Oh fuck.

Usagi has seduced even her own daughter.

Act 41.

Oh fuck.

Calling this the Dreams Arc is misleading.

It should be called the Attack of the Furries Arc.

Although Phobos and Deimos are HOT <_<

And again I'm not sure if it's a translation-specific thing, but Minako saying Rei's shrine needs a "Son-in-law"...

and holy shit the Moon Cats actually got more than a brief speaking role for once in this Act

Act 42

Mamoru actually shows genre-savviness for once by breaking the Amazon stone

Act 43 and 44

So the appearance of animals who can take humanoid form or vice versa is up to 7 in this arc, with 4 new ones, the revealing of 3 new ones. By association, I can assume another 2 have human forms as well, making up 9.

Attack of the Furries indeed <_<

Anyways...

Remind me why Minako isn't more popular again?

At least Artemis actually got a major speaking role again.

Although this does give me an idea...

You have no idea how much the anime has annoyed me by censoring the amazoness outfits. I loved Junjun's pants, plus they gave the rest of the amazons tights. :blue:

The Censored Anime version

Look what they did to her pants!
