RE: The Naruversity

Juugo's jutsu:

Cellular Regeneration Absorption - Ninjutsu - A unique technique of the one proficient in handling natural energy, Juugo. By absorbing another human's blood and flesh, and then converting it into his own cells, a super-recovery of his own wounded body is possible.

Cellular Regeneration Ejection - Ninjutsu - A restoring technique, where chakra-containing cells are distributed to someone wounded. Because a huge amount of cells is consumed, the user's body appearance is completely turned into that of a child.

Multiple Lotus Nonself Connected Cannons - Ninjutsu - A technique shooting a certain kill, used by JÅ«go after he released his killing impulse. He alters the shape of his cells to the shape of acorn barnacles, and fires multiple compressed chakra bullets from point blank range!!

Taken literally it means he's gotten younger but it could interpreted as the size of a child. Presumably Juugo's jets and other changes are another example of him "altering the shape of his cells."

He's just weird. He's got a Senjutsu characteristic but none of his jutsu are listed as Senjutsu and there's nothing indicating he has a kekkei genkai even given nature of his abilities and the fact that his clan shared them. Hopefully his profile'll shed some light on that but I would have preferred a Sage Transformation jutsu entry.

If not a kekkei genkai then I'd think it was a body-modifying forbidden jutsu (e.g. Kakuzu, Orochimaru, Deidara) but he's had the powers since he was a child, doesn't like them at all suggestng it wasn't a choice and, again, it was shared by the rest of his clan. Unless his clan use the kinjutsu on each other.

Since it's source is the Ryuuchi Cave, it may be related to the White Snake Sage's method of imbuing senjutsu which is to inject natural energy into someone with their fangs. If they survive, they can absorb natural energy no problem. Perhaps they learned to do that independently and pass it on. [Edit: Actually I think I had a theory some time ago that Juugo and his clan's ability might actually come from a special type of curse seal, hence why it resembles the some of the juinjutsu we've seen. Can't remember where I put it though, if I ever posted it.]

Though I just remembered the enzyme was something Orochimaru developed for the curse seal using Juugo's bodily fluids, not something Juugo has himself.

And Kabuto generally uses bastardized versions of all the jutsu he gained from experiments so it's no surprise he can't pull off the same tricks as Juugo. He doesn't have a full water body like Suigetsu for instance. And he has so many modifications in general anyway.

Because I just reminded myself of this little theory. It takes more liberties than my usual work but I like the idea.

Chuukichi of the Ice Release (Official Version)

Chuukichi, Gari, Toroi and Pakura were Edo Tensei summoned during the Fourth Shinobi War and were among the few that weren't pre-existing characters. But prior to their appearance in the manga, four unnamed characters appeared in the sixth movie, The Will of Fire, with a striking resemblance to those Edo Tensei in appearance, clothing and village affiliation.

In the movie, they were captured by the antagonist for a ritual that would grant him all their kekkei genkai into one, ultimate body. In the manga, three of their counterparts Explosion Release, Magnet Release and Scorch Release respectively. Meaning three out of four have a kekkei genkai in both sources, even if the ones revealed in the movie don't match those shown in the manga.

Chuukichi's only contribution to the war effort was his chakra sensing as he never participated in combat. But given the apparent origin of his character, I would think that he does have a kekkei genkai but was never given the opporunity to show it.

As it's one of the elemental kekkei genkai native to the Land of Water and Chuukichi was shown using Hidden in the Frost Jutsu in the anime, I believe that he would possess Ice Release. I would even suggest that he uses a different type which focuses on frost and snow instead of ice. As Haku was also resurrected who was a far more significant character, it gives a valid reason for Chuukichi to be forced to remain backstage.

So these four characters would actually be known as Gari of the Explosion Release, Toroi of the Magnet Release, Pakura of the Scorch Release and Chuukichi of the Ice Release.

Exploding Clay (Knyght)

Narutopedia has now decided that Explosion Release is Earth and Lightning, according to Deidara's page. With that and goldenarms' idea that Deidara doesn't even have Explosion Release, I could create three versions of following theory.

Exploding Clay (Official Version)

Deidara was originally a member of the Explosion Corps, an organisation within the Hidden Rock that specialise in explosives. They are demolition experts who develop and use all kinds of explosive tools and jutsu to engage in warfare. Practically everyone born with the Explosion Release kekkei genkai native to the Land of Earth is assigned to the corps. Deidara was one of their best and brightest.

Deidara was equally praised for his talent in clay sculpting and it was with this talent that he took explosive ninjutsu to a higher level. He stole Iwa's forbidden jutsu and used it to transform his body, growing mouths on his hands and chest which allows him to knead chakra into any material he eats.

He eats clay with one of his mouths, kneads his explosive chakra into the clay, shapes the clay into a sculpture and then infuses it with his earth chakra to control it. The explosive chakra controls the strength and size of the explosion and the earth chakra controls the size and movement of the sculpture. Thus Deidara created Exploding Clay and when he used it against one of his pursuers as he defected from the village, he realised that this was the true art he had been searching for.

Its weaknesses are that he is limited by the amount of clay he has collected and his explosive chakra suffer the same weakness as the clay. He can create more clay by changing the composition of earth with ninjutsu - though this works best with a natural source of clay - which isn't a difficult process but doesn't work fast enough for him to instantly restock. And by kneading the explosive chakra into the clay, instead of just infusing it with chakra like standard ninjutsu, it is vulnerable to lightning chakra in the same way that earth chakra is which means that they can defuse it.

But without earth chakra his clay creations would just be inanimate explosives and without explosive chakra they would just be animated sculptures. Only by combining the forbidden jutsu and his kekkei genkai was this style made possible.

RE: The Naruversity

How do you reconcile the fact that Deidara was never shown to use Explosion Release techniques like the Landmine Fist?

I always figured that Deidara had the bloodline, but before joining the corps as he wanted to to pursue artistic explosions, it was discovered that he also had the necessary aptitude to learn Dust Release, and was basically shanghaied into an apprenticeship under Onoki (explaining why Kurotsuchi refers to him as "Deidara-nii.") Seeing as Dust Release is essentially all about containing the force of an explosion, I could see Deidara being philosophically opposed to learning it, and it ties in neatly with Deidara's Clay style essentially being a "Pseudo-Kekkei Tota" ("You wanted me to use 3 Elements? Well, here you go!")

Goddamn it Narutopedia. I don't care how logical your little pet theories are (I kind of actually agree with this one), until they are confirmed by the manga or a databook or Kishimoto himself, they have no place be listed as a fact in the wiki!

What is the difference between "kneading" chakra into something and "infusing" chakra into something? Is it just two different but functionally identical ways to add chakra to something, with the only advantage to using both being that you can add two different chakra natures to an object simultaneously without them interfering with each other? Or is "kneading" chakra better in some way, since it apparently can only be done with soft, chewable materials inside the user's own body?

Also, can anyone knead chakra into an object the same way Deidara does with their normal mouth, or are the hand mouths required to do that?

Now I'm curious as to what properties the clay would have if Deidara "kneaded" other chakra natures into his clay. Some are obvious, such as Freezing Clay or Electric Clay, but how would Wooden Clay or Storm Clay act? Would Fire Clay just be a weaker version of Exploding Clay?

After discovering what true art is, Deidara would rather die than sully it by using any other type of explosion.

They at least clarified that lightning is only implied on the official page. Earth is treated as confirmed though, based on Deidara's jutsu using the earth element seals, his bombs being diffused by lightning and Sasuke callling them "earth bombs".

Is it just two different but functionally identical ways to add chakra to something, with the only advantage to using both being that you can add two different chakra natures to an object simultaneously without them interfering with each other?
Seems like reason enough for someone to considering inventing it. Maybe it's also permanent; unless diffused by the caster or someone else, they're permanently explosive.

Also, can anyone knead chakra into an object the same way Deidara does with their normal mouth, or are the hand mouths required to do that?
Only with the kinjutsu. Deidara's shown he can do it with his actual mouth as well as his hand mouths a few times.

Clay that wraps you up in a tree, shoots lasers and is on fire, respectively. If they aren't explosive, I suppose the don't need a detonate like Exploding Clay.

Only with the kinjutsu. Deidara's shown he can do it with his actual mouth as well as his hand mouths a few times.
So the real kinjutsu is the ability to knead chakra (presumably by modifying the chakra pathway system or something like that) and the hand mouths are just for a more convenient way to actually do the kneading than using your regular mouth?

Can other materials besides clay be used with Deidara's chakra kneading kinjutsu? Do they have to be roughly the same plasticity, or does anything "chewable" work? What about liquids?

RE: The Naruversity

I'd assume anything chewable, with clay being remarkably convenient rather than a requirement. I wanna say yes for liquids but it seems quite awkward, I suppose solids are more realistic.

RE: The Naruversity

Assuming Narutopedia's right in that Explosion Release is made of Earth and Lightning then how would Deidara's Exploding Clays (aka "Earth Bombs") work in this case? My theory basically has the kinjutsu allowing you to imbue a material with two different chakra natures to combine their, so what would "kneading" explosive chakra into the clay with hand mouths accomplish instead of doing it the normal way if Deidara is using the Earth of Explosion Release to control the use the clay? :hmm:

RE: The Naruversity

Assuming Explosion Release really is composed of Lighting and Earth chakra, then it seems to work differently from other advanced elements in that it doesn't combine the properties of the two base elements but rather transforms them into something completely different. Storm Release combines the fluidity of water with the piercing power of lightning, Lava Release combines the heat of fire with the toughness of earth, Ice Release combines the fluidity of water with the sharpness of wind... but Explosion Release makes thing explode, which has nothing to do with either earth or lightning. It doesn't combine the toughness of earth with the piercing power of lightning, or any of the other properties of those two chakra natures. It does something completely unique from them. So it's possible that Explosion chakra can't actually animate minerals like Earth chakra can, so Deidara had to find a way to use both chakra natures simultaneously to create exploding animated clay statues.

Personally I don't entirely buy that Explosion Release is made up of Earth and Lightning. Fire and Wind would make a lot more sense to me as the base elements that make up Explosion Release. We know Wind chakra can manipulate pressure since Danzou was throwing around "vacuum" style wind jutsu like they were going out of style, so it could be that Explosion Release works by using Wind chakra to pressurize hot Fire chakra to extreme levels.

RE: The Naruversity

Fire and Wind was all but confirmed to be Scorch Release by Minato.

If I had to justify Earth and Lightning as Explosion Release, I would probably attribute it to earth chakra's ability to alter solidity and composition and lightning chakra's high frequency vibrations which results in something that explosively destroys the structure of an object.

Lava Release v1 (Knyght)

Lava Release v1 (Version 2)

This advanced element is the result of mixing fire and earth, combining the heat of fire with the toughness of earth, to create volcanic or corrosive substances. Just as some elements can create substances other than the element itself such as using Fire Release to produce ash and explosive powder as well as fire, Lava Release can be expressed in forms other than molten rock such as acidic mud, vulcanized rubber and quicklime. This is caused by earth chakra's ability to alter solidity and composition so that the interaction with fire chakra creates a different kind of material.

The groups or individuals with this jutsu style that lived in separate regions ended up specialising in different examples of Lava Release. For instance the Four Tails with molten rock, Terumii Mei of the Hidden Mist with acidic mud, Dodai of the Hidden Cloud with vulcanized rubber and Kurotsuchi of the Hidden Rock (and her clan) with quicklime. This creates the misconception that there are multiple types of Lava Release that people are born with or that they belong to a different jutsu style altogether.

In actuality, anyone with the kekkei genkai can theoretically learn any Lava Release jutsu. What stops them is usually personal bias, insufficient knowledge and just a lack of interest.

Tsunade's Appearance (Official Version)

Tsunade developed an original ninjutsu that uses her unparalleled medical knowledge and ability to mask her aged appearance. She did not age gracefully and her vanity pushed her to find a solution that allow her to keep her beauty.

She is able to transform her body to adopt a more youthful appearance so that even though she's in her fifties, she can change her body to look as if she were in her teens, twenties, thirties or forties. The jutsu only affects Tsunade's appearance and doesn't actually grant her a younger body so internally her body would reflect true age and still suffer health problems associated with age. At the same time her mastery of medical ninjutsu renders this moot as she can keep her body in top shape regardless, aided by the inherited lifeforce of the Senju and Uzumaki. The jutsu remains active for as long as Tsunade has the minimum amount of chakra needed to maintain it as it automatically siphons off her chakra stores to keep her current appearance. Once the jutsu ends, either from chakra exhaustion or the aftereffects of her Creation Rebirth, her body reverts back to her natural age.

Earth Release: Different Kinds of Underground Travel (Knyght)

Thanking goldenarms for this.

Earth Release: Different Kinds of Underground Travel

Earth Release: Double Suicide Decapitation conceals the caster underground in preparation for their target and then switches places with them, dragging the victim into the earth. Their head is usually left above ground for interrogation, torture or execution but they can be dragged all the way under to suffocate in the earthen trap. The jutsu isn't a means of truly traveling underground and instead only lets them dive down to wait for their prey to get close enough to strike.

Earth Release: Underground Projection Fish silently slides the caster into the earth to sneak up on their target. It is not meant for travel but for stealth, so the caster moves at a slow pace but can easily sneak up on an unsuspecting target from beneath their feet. Even as they raise their body out of the earth, the jutsu doesn't make any sound. It is a favored jutsu of the Hidden Rain, known for its skill in assassination.

Earth Release: Subterranean Voyage transform the earth surrounding the user into a fluid. It is a means of high speed travel through the earth that can be even faster than running, allowing the caster to reach the destination without being seen. It is best for the caster to remain close to the surface and to know exactly where they are going beforehand as they cannot see underground.

Earth Release: Hiding Like a Mole where it changes earth into fine sand by flowing chakra through it, allowing the user to dig through it like a mole. It is excellent for hiding as they can dive deep into the ground to avoid and enemy and the user can move through at a decent speed with it. A secondary effect of the jutsu is that it allows them to sense magnetic force to detect their direction and what is happening above ground, unlike Earth Release: Subterranean Voyage.

Earth Release: Underground Passage pushes aside the earth to create a tunnel that the caster can crawl or walk through. The shifted earth is compacted into the walls to maintain its stability. It can be made large enough to accomodate a group of people and is typically used to infiltrate a location from underground as they break in from beneath. It has the disadvantage of not being able to burrow through solid rock which would require alternate means to break through. This jutsu is unnamed in the source material.

Seven Swords of the Hidden Mist (Knyght)

Seven Swords of the Hidden Mist (Official Version)

Kubikiribouchou, the Seversword, has the power to repair itself and its wielder by consuming the blood of others. As it cuts through its enemies, it draws out the blood from their wounds and absorbs it into the blade where it can restore itself to its original form when damaged and heal its wielder of their own injuries. As long as the wielder keeps chopping up his enemies with it, it'll use their blood to heal them so that they can keep slaughtering folks no matter how badly wounded. Zabuza never had the opportunity to use this ability against Kakashi as he couldn't cut him with this sword when he needed healing and then couldn't even use it by the end of the battle.

Kiba, the Thunderswords, flows lightning chakra through its blades as long as it's in the hands of its wielder. The chakra vibrates at such speeds that it has a sharpness unsurpassed by any other weapon, and it can be controlled and released directly as a conduit for lightning jutsu. Someone with no skill for lightning nature transformation could cast lightning jutsu like a master through it and someone who does possess that skill can go above and beyond what most can manage.

Nuibari, the Longsword, possesses a sharpness second only to the Thunder Sword. The wire conducts chakra so that blade's movements in mid-air can be controlled like a guided missile and it can extend indefinitely to prevent the wielder from becoming anchored by all the pierced bodies and limiting their movement range.

Shibuki, the Blastsword, can produce an unlimited number of explosions. After each blast, the explosive formula is reapplied to the now-empty tags and cycled around so that each blow can be accompanied by an explosive finish. The sword is durable to the point that it completely unharmed no matter how many blasts it used and all of the force is directed away from the wielder towards the enemy.

Kabutowari, the Bluntsword, can break through any defence. The axe and hammer are, individually, strong but unremarkable weapons. But when used in conjunction - when the axe first hits and obstacle and then the hammer strikes the axe - the force is automatically amplified until it reaches the point where it can break through. No matter how powerful the defence, the Bluntsword will shatter it. It's an ironically subtle power that isn't particularly impressive when used against standard weapons and armour but shines when up against something especially tough.

Hiramekarei, the Twinsword, can store and emit chakra in the shape of solid weapons. The chakra can take the form of a sword, hammer, mace - whatever the wielder can imagine - possessing strength and sharpness that surpasses standard weaponry. And the more chakra stored within the sword then the greater the size of the weapon it can emit, whether the chakra is given during the battle itself or collected other time in preparation for one.

Samehada, the Greatsword, is the the most terrifying of the seven swords and unique among them all in origin and power. It was forged from the scales of a monstrous shark that once terrorized the seas around the Land of Water, creating a sword that shreds its victims and ravages their body with terrible wounds. Its power to cut and absorb chakra came from that very same creature, allowing it to drain the energy of its enemies and slice through their jutsu, even sustaining itself on the chakra of its wielder so that few were capable of using it. As Samehada continued to indiscriminately feed on chakra, the life that once resides in its flesh was rekindled with limited sentience. And with that sentience came new abilities as it controlled its own form and powers; stretching and bending its shape, increasing its size, growing a fang-filled mouth, transferring chakra to and heal and restore others, and even fusing itself with its wielder to combine their powers.

RE: The Naruversity

3+ months, huh? Well, I've just added the rest of the swords to that Samehada entry above, extrapolating on their abilities with headcanon and filler.

And I was thinking on my entry of weapons, which I don't particularly like anymore, and I'm wondering if the Sword of Kusanagi and Totsuka might have originally been used by (and possibly made by) Indra. They are variants of one another in the Narutoverse - one physical and the other spiritual - and are both a part of Susanoo's mythology. Kusanagi could have been the sword he wielded himself and Totsuka is the sword his Susanoo wielded for him. The Yata Mirror could also have been his to complete the set since the Magatama are somehow a natural part of the Susanoo too.

I wouldn't claim that the Totsuka can only be wielded by Susanoo - there would be little point in Orochimaru looking for it then - but it does seem uniquely suited for it as a spiritual weapon.

It's a good theory, although one of the comments raised some (somewhat unrelated) good points I hadn't thought about before - why didn't Tobirama give one of his subordinates a Hiraishin marked kunai so he could escape alive after buying his team time to escape? And why didn't Kabuto raise any of the uber badasses on the Kinkaku Force as zombies?

Another interesting comment:

Remember Kakuzu saying he hadn't seen Kinkaku that mad for a long time and knew Ginkaku must've been sealed? Maybe he was also in the Kinkaku force for unknown reasons, probably capital-related. Maybe the Kinkaku force was assembled from powerful mercenaries and the like, and were paid.
What if Kakuzu was also part of that group, and had helped take down the brothers, and later was contracted along with the rest of the Kinkaku squad to take down Tobirama and his leaf subordinates?

RE: The Naruversity

Tobirama quite clearly had no intention of escaping. He had no illusions that he could beat them all and survive so he planned to give up his life to buy as much time and kill as many KF as possible.

I operate under the assumption that they were in the worst cast scenario: the entire team was in poor condition, deep in hostile territory and that the KF were good enough - and fresh enough - that they would track them down without a sacrifice to stop them. So escaping with FTG, if he'd even be able to use it by the time it became feasible, would have been delaying the inevitable and putting the entire team at risk.

Altered Nova said:

You could say the same of several, more deserving characters i.e. the missing Kages who would undoubtedly be worth the effort of reviving. All to be swept under the rug of "couldn't find the remains/wasn't enough DNA/ritual didn't stick etc."

Why Only the Tsuchikage Fly (Official Version)

The Added-Weight Rock Jutsu and Light-Weight Rock Jutsu were invented by Ishikawa, the man who would become the First Tsuchikage. In his day, he had a reputation similar to the latest of the Raikages as a physical powerhouse; increasing his weight to make his blows as heavy as possible and decreasing it until he could soar through the sky, switching between instantly to create a style that was the perfect blend of power and speed. His aerial dominance meant that he could use tactics few others could match and in one particularly famous incident, destroying an entire battlefield and those upon it by dropping a small mountain from above. The feat cemented his moniker as Ishikawa of Heaven and Earth.

Ishikawa was notoriously secretive about his jutsu and did not teach it to any of his clans or to those who joined the village he formed. Even though the jutsu is only B-rank and could be learned by any of the jounin, he had no desire to pass on that knowledge to the masses. He did record the jutsu in a scroll so it couldn't ever be lost but it is one of the most secret and most secure scrolls in the Hidden Rock. He taught it only to his second-in-command and successor, Muu, who then taught it to Onoki who would become the Third Tsuchikage.

And so the ability of unaided fly became an unspoken symbol of the Tsuchikage's powers. As the Fourth Tsuchikage, Kurotsuchi is the latest to learn the Added-Weight Rock Jutsu and Light-Weight Rock Jutsu.

Not a bad theory. Now please explain why the added-weight rock jutsu petrified that one Zetsu for no adequately explained reason, when every other application of the jutsu in the manga was more accurate to the jutsu's name and just increased the target's gravity/inertia/weight.

I asked that in the question thread once. Silence was my answer.

I wouldn't be surprised if ankoku has the right of it or if Kishi used it the first time and then decide to change what it did.

Best guess is that Zetsu - being chakra-munching plant spores - are more vulnerable to elemental chakra than humans when it's used against them offensively.

Edit: I forgot we actually know the First Tsuchikage's name.
