RE: The Naruversity

Basically what I said for my Body Flicker Jutsu entry. ᕙ(⇀‸↼‶)ᕗ

Which could probably do with some expansion anyway. One thing I've been wondering about that jutsu: does it work by setting up the necessary chakra, direction and destination by the time the jutsu is activated? So when you run out of the allocated and/or reach the destination, the jutsu would stop automatically. Or do you first activate the jutsu and then chose the direction and destination and use up as much chakra as you're willing to provide to get there?

So...does the Body Flicker Jutsu work on automatic or does it work on manual is sort of what I'm asking.

RE: The Naruversity

Maybe it's automatic for most ninja, but the badasses can switch to manual mode for added versatility. So Joe Ninja has to activate the jutsu each time he needs a burst of speed, but the Raikage just activates it once at the beginning of the fight and then never turns it off until the fight is over.

RE: The Naruversity

Ninja use chakra to enhance their body all time.
Shunshin is, specifically, super-charging one's body for a brief time. It's not Shunshin if it's your base-state.

False Origin of Shinobi (Knyght)

So this is based on the original history of shinobi that doesn't the Otsutsuki Clan and the God Tree. It isn't canon compliant but you could think of it as what is mistakenly believed to be the true history of the Narutoverse, masking what really happened all those years ago.

False Origin of Shinobi (Official Version)

Chakra is an energy that has existed within the world and all living creatures since the very beginning. It flows through the veins of the earth and of humans and beasts alike.

But the people of this world knew little of chakra and had no way of wielding it. It was a power that existed within all but none could touch.

Then a thousand years ago, a special child was born with a connection to chakra unlike any other. It was as if he was a chakra point for the entire world and this manifested in the form of the Rinnegan, the first and most exalted of doujutsu.

The child, Hagoromo, could see and comprehend chakra on a fundamental level and thus wield it as an extension of himself. He bent the elements to his whim, confused the minds of men, enhanced the strength of his body, created form out of nothingness and breathed life into form. He was even blessed with the power of the Six Paths and the Outer Path and he delved into the mystery of chakra until the body, spirit and all of nature held no secrets for him.

Hagoromo did not believe he should hoard this knowledge for himself and instead shared it with the world. He lived in an era of endless war and believed that the gift of chakra would bring it to an end.

If people knew how they could shape the world, how they could connect their spirits to understand one another and how they could tap into their own potential to discover who they truly are, what need could there ever be for war? Hagoromo travelled across the entire land, quelling conflict with his great power and teaching the nature of chakra to all who were willing to learn, human or otherwise.

He named the arts that he had created Jutsu and classed them as Ninjutsu, Taijutsu and Genjutsu, breaking them down into their own categories and types and then even further into individual jutsu. He developed hand-seals to shape and transform chakra in those who lacked his impossible flair for chakra manipulation. Hagoromo's power, wisdom and desire for peace earned his title as the Sage of Six Paths and, in time, this great following became known as the Shinobi Sect.

But centuries of warfare and bloodshed committed by humanity had tainted the world with its malice. It seeped into the earth and flowed within the chakra of planet, growing until it gained a will and life of its own and held nothing but hatred for the race that birthed its foul existence. It rose up to bring an end to all things.

And so the Ten Tailed God was born, a monument to humanity's sins.

The Sage of Six Paths fought that god and the Shinobi Sect fought the beings that split from its body. It was a war unlike any other to protect themselves from extinction. In the end, Hagoromo sealed the god's body within a titanic prison of stone where it should remain trapped for all eternity in the void between worlds. And he sealed its chakra within himself to ensure it would never have the power to escape which transformed him into an entity greater than ever before.

He could move through the sky like a creature of flight, transform his body in strange new ways, control all forms of nature around him and mix together any and all of his nature transformations to create even more jutsu.

From that day Hagoromo became known as the God of Shinobi.

Hagoromo eventually had two twin sons, Indra and Asura, whom the Shinobi Sect had great expectations for. Indra was a genius who inherited the power of his father's eyes and Asura was a fool who inherited the strength of his father's body.

They were the closest of friends and the greatest of rivals who understood each other on the level that no one else could come close to. For all that, their life experiences gave them two entirely different ideas on how to create peace.

Indra's prowess led him on a solitary life where he needed to depend on no-one and believe that strength and force were the key to peace. He was born with the Sharingan which could copy jutsu, predict movement, hypnotise the mind and even granted him unique jutsu such as Susanoo.

Asura's ineptitude taught him the value of others as he befriended and was support by many others, teaching him that love was the key to peace. He had no inherent abilities aside from a tough body full of vitality but after years of dedication he awakened the Six Paths Senjutsu, drawing on the world itself to empower him.

Hagoromo could have lived forever if he desired but he felt it would be best to pass on his mantle to another generation instead of trying to rule the world himself. Hagoromo created nine tailed beasts from the Ten Tails’ chakra; he gave them names, taught them of the world and allowed them to be free to live how they chose until they could find their place in the world.

At the end of his life, Hagoromo chose Asura to lead the Shinobi Sect in his place as he chose to believe that love was the key to peace. He passed away but those left behind were left unsatisfied.

Indra felt betrayed by his choice and crossed blades with Asura in his desire to take his place as their father's rightful successor. The conflict between them was long and bitter, poisoning the Shinobi Sect as its followers chose to side with each of the brothers. In the end, Asura and Indra killed each other in battle and any hope of peace was destroyed.

The Shinobi Sect continued to follow their example as they became warring clans that only used chakra to kill each other, all of their jutsu devised for the sake of hurting and deceiving their enemies. And the brothers' feud was passed onto their children and their children's children in a conflict lasting so long that those involved have no idea how it started.

The strongest bloodline of the brothers would become the Senju, Uchiha, Uzumaki and Hyuuga clans. But many others clans and individuals possessed the blood of the Sage which often manifested in unique abilities passed down to each generation, all spawned from the power of the Ten Tailed God.

Soon enough, the Shinobi Sect became Shinobi and lost their ties to their beginnings. Even a thousand years later, the wars rage on and the Sage of Six Paths watches over the world in hope that someone would finally bring peace.

History of the Tailed Beasts (Knyght)

Knyght

The Collector
Because one essay just isn't enough. An entire history of the Tailed Beasts up until the Hidden Villages and think I covered everything relevant. I might take it further with a Jinchuuriki entry someday.

History of the Tailed Beasts (Official Version)

The Tailed Beasts were created by the Sage of Six Paths a thousand years ago, born from the chakra of the Ten Tails.

Hagoromo split the chakra into nine parts and used Creation Of All Things - creating form out of nothingness and breathing life into form - to forge it into nine, living beings.

Each being manifested with a unique shape and power, the chakra that composed them expressing itself in unpredictable ways. Their only similarities were they are resembled animals and had tails, thus earning them the collective title of the Tailed Beasts. They were like newborn children when they first came into existence, without any memories of their previous life, and Hagoromo named each one as they awoke.

Kurama, the Nine-Tailed Fox. Gyuuki, the Eight-Tailed Ox. Chomei, the Seven-Tailed Beetle. Saiken, the Six-Tailed Slug. Kokuo, the Five-Tailed Horse. Son Goku, the Four-Tailed Monkey. Isobu, the Three-Tailed Turtle. Matatabi, the Two-Tailed Cat. And Shukaku, the One-Tailed Racoon.

Hagoromo raised these nine beasts as his own; he taught the all about the world, where they had come from and what their future might be. He felt that, having been born from the planet itself, they would become its guardian and examples of its greatest wonders. That they could one day find a purpose for all their strength and would choose to guide and protect all living things to create peace after his death.

He was well aware that they could become monsters just as terrible as the Ten Tails, but he chose to believe in them and in the Shinobi Sect.

When the Sage of Six Paths passed away, the Tailed Beasts drifted apart to explore the world. In the centuries that followed, they traversed everywhere they could reach and even found habitats that they could find home. But while they may have loved a human as a father but they soon felt nothing but contempt for the rest of humanity as, in their eyes, they were all inferior to the Sage and the Tailed Beasts themselves.

Over time the nine reached the peak of their physical growth and might, becoming mighty titans that were orders of magnitude stronger than any other beings. And none was mightier than Kurama who held the greatest share of the Ten Tails' power as the firstborn of his siblings. This, in fact, is what sparked the mistaken belief that the number of tails they had corresponds to how powerful they are. Even Kurama believes it to be so, if only because he truly is the strongest and holds the most tails.

Unfortunately, that strength made them proud and violent. They would reshape the land wherever they travelled, fight against any humans or animals willing to challenge them and even engaged in conflicts with one another that caused untold devastation. As if still tainted by malice of the Ten Tails, they were like natural disasters who only desired to express their power and prove their superiority.

The true story of their origins was forgotten by humanity and they were hated and feared as malevolent forces of nature. They seemed to be nothing more than mindless monsters who could only destroy.

As beings made from chakra, the very nature of the beasts meant that their state of mind could influence their entire existence. A human steeped in hatred would have chakra that reflected that emotion but as Tailed Beasts are made of chakra, they literally embody those negative emotions. The mere presence of these beasts could overwhelm anyone with the tainted stength of their chakra.

Kurama was considered the worst of them, not only because of his sheer power but because he was known to suddenly appear in places where malice had gathered and destroyed all in sight. No-one knew that it truly had the power to sense negativity and was drawn to those locations where he could unleash all of his contempt upon humanity. These creatures that should have been great wonders were instead the embodiment of all that was wrong in the world.

And then came the beginning of the Hidden Village Era where the Nine Tailed Fox was bound by the power of Uchiha Madara's Mangekyou Sharingan and Senju Hashirama's Wood Release, leaving it utterly helpless in a way that it had never experienced before.

To prevent Kurama's power from being used by any other Uchiha who might sympathise with Madara, Hashirama had his wife seal the beast inside her. Uzumaki Mito became the first Jinchuuriki since the Sage of Six Paths and this set off another great change in the shinobi world. Bolstered by the actions of Hashirama and Madara, the idea of capturing and using the Tailed Beasts crossed the minds of many.

Shukaku was sealed into a teakettle by ninja and priests from Suna and were the first to develop a Jinchuuriki after Mito. Chomei was struck down from the sky by Taki and they even tried to assassinate the First Hokage so they could steal his power for himself to control their beast. But the attempt failed and the assassin was disgraced. Hashirama went on to capture the other six Tailed Beasts himself to use them as a peace offering between the largest Hidden Villages that had risen in Konoha's wake. He hoped to create a balance between villages to avoid future wars as well as to prevent an alliance against Konoha for having the power of the Nine Tails in their hands.

The Tailed Beasts were humbled in the worst way possible. They became more hateful than ever and became closer to wild beasts that, whenever the opportunity let loose came about, would rampage without restraint to kill every human in sight.

Nowadays humans think of them as mindless demons that bring calamity and are kept sealed to keep the world safe from their power. Many believe that they were once humans who became living ghosts corrupted by madness and hatred, transforming them into monsters.

It would be decades before there would be any hope that the Tailed Beasts might be freed from this life of imprisonment.

RE: The Naruversity

No mention of what the individual bijuu besides Kurama were actually doing during most of their thousand year lifespans?

I mean we don't got much to go on, but I felt the way that Son Goku introduced himself as "The Handsome Monkey King of the Water Screen Cave; the King of the Sage Monkeys" hinted at a fascinating backstory for him. I'm sure someone could write an awesome fanfic based on just that introduction.

And I've always like the idea that Shukaku was the most devout of the Sage's followers and actually became a priest (which is where the rumor in Suna of him being the living ghost of a corrupted priest originated from) and tried to spread his teachings of peace among the warmongering humans. It would explain why he's so much nastier than the other bijuu - he was the most devout, so seeing them disregard the Sage's teachings and use his gifts for war, and eventually being betrayed and captured and weaponized by them, it hit him much harder and his faith utterly shattered and was replaced with madness and hatred.

RE: The Naruversity

It's something to work on then.

I'm not against the idea for Shukaku but I think it's clear that story is based on his firet jinchuuriki, Bunpuku. Perhaps a combination where Shukaku was some kind of relationship with Land of Wind's priests and was priest when they helped seal him into a teakettle and then into one of their own

And I've just hit upon the obvious reason that Chomei somehow ended up in Taki; they, like Suna, managed to capture the beast before Hashirama so it was already their's. The thought hadn't crossed my mind before now. That could even be why akakuzu was meant to assassinate Hashirama and was punished so severely. He was meant to remove the threat of having their beast stolen as well as give them the key to controlling it with Hashirama's corpse. Perhaps even his heart if they planned to use that kinjutsu themselves. So Taki's been holding onto their beast since the very beginning.

Could knight or someone clear up what the REAL history of chakra is? BZ's exposition in the manga confuses me even now and I still don't know which was true and which was his bullshit.

RE: The Naruversity

Alien Bunny Girl comes to Narutoworld.
Eat fruit of the God Tree.
Gets chakra.
Has babbies. They have chakra.
Older baby grows, and share chakra with everybody.
At some point, people noticed they can make MORE chakra by mixing up their spiritual and physical energies

Does that mean chakra is native to the Narutoworld because the Shinju came from the land? Was the ability to make chakra something people always had or did Hagoromo and Brogaromo have to give them chakra? Then how do the toads have chakra/senjutsu?

I'm so confused.

I guess so?

Looks like Hagoromo gave everybody chakra

Then how do the toads have chakra/senjutsu?
I think Hagoromo gave chakra to mankind AND animals, possibly with the idea "if people can understand each other and the animals, there will not be a ecological disaster that might or might have happened in the past of this world!"

RE: The Naruversity

I dunno, I kind of think that chakra is something everyone always had, since humans in the Naruto world need chakra to survive and have a specialized organ system for transporting the stuff throughout their bodies. It would be really weird if Hagoromo not only taught people how to use chakra, but also changed the physiology of the entire human race such that from that point forward they would die without it. Why would he do that?

Maybe before the Sage people couldn't consciously manipulate their spiritual and physical energies no matter how hard they tried, and their bodies only automatically produced enough to continue living. Since nobody could use or sense chakra back then and they didn't have the technology to build mechanical chakra sensors, they considered themselves to not have it, because who could tell the difference? It would have been like people in the real world debating the existence of souls, there was simply no way to detect or prove that chakra existed back then. What the Sage of Six Paths did was to give people the power to control their chakra, and he 'unlocked their potential' such that they could suddenly produce extra chakra in order to fuel their jutsu without dying. And people believed he had "given" them chakra because they simply didn't know they had it but just couldn't use it before him.

Also he gave those gifts to all sentient beings rather than just humans, because the Sage of Six Paths was not a bigot and treated all intelligent peoples equally.

RE: The Naruversity

Why would he do that?
for the peace in the world, of course.
I'm reasonably sure it was stated Chakra Molding came after the Sage, leading to a bastardization of his teachings.

Remember, all chakra was in the fruit.

How does changing the physiology of all human beings so that they would all need some chakra in their bodies at all times or they would die help bring about world peace?

Pretty sure chakra molding started with Kaguya actually. She did know a bunch of jutsu and she used her chakra to conquer the world.

RE: The Naruversity

Chakra was given so people could use it for UNDERSTANDING
people weren't supposed to make MORE chakra.

Likewise Kaguya probably never molded chakra, but used what she already had from the Ninnin Fruit

You realize this just supports my theory that people already had chakra before the Sage and the Sage just gave them the ability to use it, right? If the Sage only wanted to give people a limited supply of chakra so they could use it connect with each other with Ninshu and never intended for them to mold more chakra or use it for warfare, then there was no reason to also give them chakra pathway systems and change their anatomy to depend on chakra to the point that they would die of chakra exhaustion without it.

Therefore, people must have already had chakra pathway systems and required chakra to survive before the Sage of Six Paths. Hagoromo must have simply taught the people how to manipulate chakra and how to mold more from their spiritual and physical energies, not given chakra to beings who never had it before.

Also the Byakugan seems to have originated from the ÅŒtsutsuki Clan, not the Chakra Fruit of the Shinju or the Sage of Six Paths, so that's another bit of evidence that supports at least some people having chakra before the Sage.

RE: The Naruversity

As far as we know, Hagoromo "simply" copied his own natural chakra system.

Then again, Chakra is Soul.
I guess it's possible Hagoromo didn't gave them chakra itself, as much as the chakra system so they could access to their own chakra\soul in order to share it with others for UNDERSTANDING.

Eh, I still like to think that chakra was something everyone had but didn't use. Kaguya was an alien, got chakra by eating the fruit(making her addicted to it) and used the extremely powerful chakra of the Shinju and her alien powers to rule over everyone. Hagoromo just taught people how to use the power inside of them,

That's my new headcanon atleast.

Unless Chakra Exhaustion causing death is a result of the body responding to a lack of chakra (a "vacuum," if you will) in the circulatory system, and attempting to convert physical and mental energy that the Shinobi doesn't have.

Like, Chakra Hypovolemia or something.

If Chakra Exhaustion was essentially caused by an empty CCS draining someone's resources, then maybe Kaguya "dissolving" or somehow removing someone's chakra network (and by extension their chakra) wouldn't kill them.

Sasuke Wasn't Taught Snake Jutsu (Official Version)

It's assumed that during the timeskip between Part 1 and Part 2, Sasuke signed the snake summoning contract, learned the Summoning Jutsu and was taught various snake-related by Orochimaru.

But in all of Part 2, Sasuke was never shown using any snake jutsu when Orochimaru wasn't inside his body. The only exception is when Sasuke summoned Aoda during the Fourth Great Shinobi War which suggests that he did sign the contract or, at the very least, made that particular snake his personal summon at some point.

Over the course of the Itachi Pursuit Mission and Fated Battle of Brothers where Sasuke had already absorbed Orochimaru, he used the Binding Snake Glare, Hidden Shadow Snake Hands and Orochimaru-Style Body Replacement. We also see that Sasuke has a summoning tattoo that matches Orochimaru’s which was first shown once he had escaped from Deidara's C0.

But these jutsu are never shown again after those arcs and the tattoo is gone after his battle with Itachi, just like the Cursed Seal of Heaven. So the fact that he doesn't use them against suggests that he was never taught them in the first place.

The Orochimaru-styly Body Replacement is almost certainly an aspect of the Power of the White Snake and so it makes sense that Sasuke doesn't use it, for instance, during his fight against Killer B where he was badly wounded twice.

The Hidden Shadow Snake Hands and Binding Snake Glare use summoned snakes so if Orochimaru had intended to teach him those, he would have needed Sasuke to sign the summoning contract for them. But if Sasuke had only copied those jutsu with his Sharingan then it would make sense that he lacked the requirements to actually cast them (one of the limitations of the jutsu-copying ability) but then was able to use them once he had Orochimaru's powers.

This isn't necessarily the only explanation.

One possibility is that Sasuke could still summon snake and use snake jutsu, even if he had lost some of Orochimaru's abilities, but chose not to during any of the following fights in favour of his Mangekyou Sharingan. There have always been jutsu that don't receive multiple appearances, even particularly powerful ones such as the S-rank Kirin.

Another is that Sasuke wasn't allowed to summon any snakes aside from Aoda. He sacrificed Manda as a meat shield to protect him from Deidara so it's possible that most of the snakes refused to be summoned by Sasuke from then on. It would be fitting for such an act to have negative consequences.

But it's still possible that Orochimaru had no plans to teach Sasuke his particular branch of ninjutsu. There was always the chance Sasuke might use them against him and learning snake jutsu isn't a necessity when he only needed to ensure that Sasuke was made into the perfect vessel for him.

Might as well put this one here.

Kakashi's Generation Retcon

Aoba, Hayate, Ebisu, Raido and Genma were originally stated to have different ages in databooks. But we are shown that they all attended the Academy Entrance Ceremony in the same year as Kakashi despite being there being at least 2 years age difference between him and all of them. Ebisu and Genma are even shown on the same genin team as Gai despite their different ages.

Meaning that their ages must have been changed to be the same as Kakashi and Gai's so they would actually be around 26 years old at the start of the series.

Furthermore, Kakashi was said to have graduated from the Academy at 5 years old and been promoted to chuunin at 6 years old.

But we see Kakashi attending the Chuunin Exams with Obito and Rin when he looks older than 6 and they shouldn't have graduated yet. And we know that Obito and Kakashi are the same age from the Fourth Databook.

Obito and Rin's own graduation age was 9 years old so it's probable that Kakashi's was changed to match theirs. So they graduated together and were placed on the same team under Minato as rookie genin. Then they took the Chuunin Exams within the next year or so and Kakashi became a chuunin at 10.

And a year or so later, Obito and Rin get promoted too at 11. Finally, based on Obito's age in the Gaiden, Kakashi was promoted to jounin at 13.

Yotsuki Clan (Knyght)

Knyght

And something completely different. Probably expand on this one more later.

Yotsuki Clan (Official Version)

The Yotsuki Clan are a part of the Hidden Cloud and are blessed with the Magnet Release Kekkei Genkai. Before the Hidden Village Era, they made their home in the Valley of Clouds and Lightning for generations. The mountainous region was subject to powerful magnetic fields which they used to hone their Kekkei Genkai.

They approved of allowing the First Raikage to make the valley a part of the Hidden Cloud's lands but to this day it is still their most valued training ground. Even if they have to make space for Killer B's rampages.

The Yotsuki are a clan of weapon specialists, magnetizing their weapons to accomplish unmatchable feats. Every clan member spends their life mastering a single weapon, much like the samurai and their swords, but are familiar with any weapon well enough to adapt in all situations.

Armed with steel or iron, they wield weapons with their chakra instead of their body in unorthodox fighting styles. They can swing more swords than they have hands, throw shuriken that spin several times faster, toss spears so hard and fast they shatter concrete walls and shoot arrows that can change trajectory without losing any of their momentum.

The Yotsuki often aren't blatant in the display of their skills and most of their enemies don't truly realize that they possess Magnet Release at all. Especially when compared to Third Kazekage's ingenious and powerful iron sand jutsu that earned his reputation as the strongest Kage of his village. But there are always exceptions such as one rather showy shinobi who would wear an entire set of heavy plate armour and animates it with magnetic force. His enemies often assumed that he was simply that big and strong to bear the weight so easily.

An even stranger example, though he technically isn't a member of the Yotsuki Clan, is Killer B. After he was restricted to the village and the Valley of Clouds and Lightning, when he wasn't practising his Jinchuuriki skills B frequently trained his kenjutsu alongside the clan members and started to emulated styles that ordinarily wouldn't be possible. He advanced from a two-sword style and invented the seven-sword Acrobat style that was based on some Yotsuki controlling their swords with magnetic force instead of their limbs. The clan, already friendly with him, has held the greatest respect for him ever since.

Yotsuki is the clan of the 3rd and 4th Raikage, none of them showing Magnet. That one Suna shinobi was surprised Kumo had a Magnet user, which is in contrast with the idea of Magnet being part of the Yotsuki bloodline.
Also wasn't stated the turtle island was originally of the Yotsuki clan?
