Question: Should I change The Naruversity to The Narutoversity?

I simply swapped Uni for the Naru in Naruto when I came up with it but Narutoversity makes it more clear what it's about and also refers to the Narutoverse as it's commonly known. It'd just require me to go and fix all the the links I've used that have naruversity in them since that probably isn't automatic.
To be honest, it takes me a second to cotton on to what this thread is about every time I see it pop-up in Today's Posts. Sometimes thinking it's Nasuverse and other times Love Hina. Just my 2 cents.

Human Path (Knyght)

I once planned to do a big "Six Paths Jutsu" piece but it's easier just to work on these Path by Path.

Human Path

The Human Path has the ability to interact with a human's mind and soul.

Through physical contact, the wielder can connect with the soul residing in the human body to manipulate it. Then they can forcibly drag the soul out of the target's body to kill them as they are unable to live without their soul. This is not an instantaneous process as the human body naturally resists losing its soul, and the more strong-willed opponents can push that resistance as much as possible.

However it is very difficult to actually break the caster's connection to the soul, especially as the victim grows weaker the more the soul is pulled away from them. The victim would need to attack the caster directly to force them to release their soul before it can be extracted.

But this isn't necessarily a permanent death as by preserving the body and soul in the Naraka Path, its power of restoration can be used to reconnect them and revive the individual.

The other ability of the Human Path is to delve into the psyche of the target. By resting their hand on the target's head, they can instantly separate the body and soul. The mind is the source of what makes a person who they are and thus is where the soul is most deeply connected to the body. So by channeling the Human Path's power directly into the target's brain, they can completely sever the soul from the body. Doing so causes the mind to lose all control of the body as it enters a catatonic state that lasts as long as the soul remains inside it by the wielder's will.

This vulnerability allows the wielder to then commune with the victim's psyche to experience every single thought, feeling and memory within seconds. They can bypass practically any mental defenses the victim might have and cross-examine their mind to find any information they might possess. Even if an ordinary ninja had the jutsu to read minds, they wouldn't be able to handle the strain of that much information and would take weeks, if not months, to read through a person's entire life. Those with the Human Path suffer no such drawbacks.

Once the scan is complete, they can pull the soul from the body without resistance which finally kills the victim. However these victims cannot be saved as the "wound" inflicted by the Human path causes the soul to immediately pass on to Pure Lands without hope of returning to their body.

I think it would make more sense to state that the reason the mind-reading is so fast and powerful is because the jutsu severs the spiritual connection between body and soul, preventing the victim from being able to resist, rather than the victim dying being a seemingly unrelated side-effect of the mind-reading.That is, they are effectively doomed the moment the scan begins because their soul is already "free", but the user of the jutsu is delaying their death by "holding" the soul inside the body in order to enable the mind-scan.

I like it. The Human Path mind reading murder was always a headscratcher for me but I can see how it works as a requirement in that sense.

Is touching the victim's head when using Human Path always an instant-kill? Could zombie-Nagato have theoretically one-shotted Naruto rather than initiating the tug-of-war if he'd touched Naruto's head instead of his chest? Or does it depend on the victim's capacity to resist the jutsu, and all those mook ninja would have been insta-killed regardless of where Nagato's Path grabbed them and Naruto would have fought back even if he'd been touched on the head?

The jutsu description certainly sounds like it does insta kill with a headshot: "One's final moments come when the hand is placed on their head." Nagato going torso rather than the head might be the case of poor positioning since Naruto was held above him or more likely to defend against a hand reaching for his face, or it could be because he was moving under Kabuto's order to extract and revive them. :hmm:

I'd kinda expect ordinary ninja to get their souls ripped out relatively easily but I feel like going for the head raises the danger level for even the stronger ninja. It's strange that the Human Path didn't get more action with an ability to yank out souls with a touch.

The bolded sentence only makes sense if you can't extract and capture a soul when grabbing them by the head. Maybe that's the trade-off? Touching the victim's head with the jutsu is an instant kill because it completely severs the soul from the body - but that means that the soul will immediately pass on to the afterlife as soon as it is released, and the most you can do it delay it's escape in order to read their memories. Grabbing them anywhere else lets you pull out the soul more slowly and with greater control, making it possible to capture it - but a strong opponent can resist the process for some time and physically fight back while it's happening.

Perhaps it could be explained by theorizing that the soul is most strongly anchored to the body through the brain, so touching the head is much more effective for separating the soul from the body. Too effective, in fact, if your goal is to capture the soul, since it is so completely free that it just slips through your fingers.

Yeah it's kind of weird that Nagato chose to sacrifice the Path with the literal death touch in order to save the summoner path from Naruto's Rasenshuriken. Then again, I suppose the body he was channelling it was too weak and slow (relatively speaking) that he didn't expect that it would have much of a chance of successfully touching Naruto.

A bit off-topic. If the Byakugan can slow down perception, then is the (non-Mangekyo) Sharingan outmatched?

(Obviously, I'm referring to your recent article on Narutoversity.)

The Byakugan's insight was said to be superior to the Sharingan's from the beginning. And I personally rate it above the base Sharingan after doing all that research on them both.

a nice new info from this week's episode of Boruto: Bolt cannot maintain his bunshin working if they leave his field of vision, unlike Naruto's

As in literally leave his line of sight or as in if they are far enough away that he wouldn't be able to see them?

mix of both, most likely. they were specifically talking about long distances.

He could likely hide a clone in a closet and it would be fine as long as they are in the same room, but greater distances would require visual contact

I assume they must just mean his clones have a short range, because line-of-sight clones wouldn't make any sense unless the chakra maintaining their existence was being supplied to them through beams firing out of his pupils.

Preta Path (Knyght)

Knyght

The Collector
Very iffy on the second half of this but thought I should at least put the idea out there.

Preta Path

The Preta Path is the ability to absorb chakra of any size and composition.

The first half of this is known as the Blocking Technique Absorption Seal. It causes their chakra circulation to flow in reverse to absorb chakra from outside sources into their own body. The circulation flows with such speed and force that the effect extends beyond their physical body, acting like a barrier which absorbs any and all chakra in their immediate vicinity without the need to touch it.

Once a jutsu touches the barrier it immediately stops in its tracks without reaching the wielding and is forcibly sucked into them. Regardless of how much chakra is used in the jutsu, what type of chakra it is made from or how many jutsu are launched at them, as long as the barrier is active it is able to defend against them.

This barrier is usually created close to the user to protect them but can be extended over a wider area. Doing so allows them to remotely absorb chakra from anyone within the sphere of influence so that they are not reliant on touching the target to drain them. But any jutsu cast inside the barrier cannot be blocked, only weakened by the absorption before it reaches the caster which makes them more vulnerable.

The absorbed chakra is dispersed throughout their body to replenish any of their lost stamina and provide them with additional chakra to use themselves. Unlike ordinary types of chakra absorption, it is able to absorb this chakra without limit but the excess is used up significantly faster than what the body naturally produces so it only acts as a temporary boost. However some types of chakra can have a negative effect on the body when absorbed in large quantities such as the corrosive chakra of a Tailed Beast or senjutsu chakra of a Sage.

The second half of its ability is the Blocking Technique Reflection Seal. Rather than absorb chakra by breaking down the jutsu and disperse it, it absorbs the chakra in its jutsu form and stores that within the wielder. Once stored, they can choose to release it again at will whether they unleash right back at their opponent or save it for an opportune moment.

And with the jutsu under their control, they can choose to multiply their power by supplementing them with their own chakra. Each jutsu can only be stored for twenty-four hours before they are dispersed inside the user's body, and they are restricted in how many jutsu they can keep in storage.

Both abilities are less effective on jutsu that manipulate preexisting materials by infusing them with chakra rather than jutsu simply made from chakra. They can still absorb chakra from the material to render it useless but it is not as fast and the material itself does not disappear.

Nagato chose to use the first half of the Preta Path exclusively. Wielding the Six Paths of Pain with his drained life force was taxing even for his incredibly reserves so he used every opportunity to restore them by stealing chakra from his enemies.

I'm not entirely opposed to jutsu reflection, but I'm curious as to whether there is any canon basis for the ability, or did you just make it up wholecloth?

I'd put some hard limits on the reflection ability myself. Either a time limit on how long the stored jutsu can be held, or a strict limit on the number of stolen jutsu that can be stored simultaneously, or preferably both. That power could get pretty ridiculous otherwise. It'd still be pretty abusable if combined with jutsu storage seals like the one Jiraiya used to seal away Itachi's Amaterasu though.

Oh right I forgot about Momoshiki... he really is an unmemorable villain. I suppose his ability to absorb and copy ninjutsu would make the most sense as an extension of the Preta Path. It's better than it being yet another inexplicable new Rinnegan power.

Knyght

The Collector
Good, good. I wasn't sure whether to include as part of the Preta Path when Nagato never used it or just make it one of those unique abilities the Rinnegan randomly gives people.

I've just realised that I've forgotten a few other things too like how it works on pre-existing substances manipulated with chakra rather than made with chakra and how it apparently doesn't work when someone is absorbing their chakra instead. And since Preta was caught in the toad's genjutsu so maybe it's not effective against genjutsu? Or maybe Nagato just allowed them to remain caught for a sneak attack.

And do you suppose there's a difference between the Blocking Technique Absorption Seal and how some other Rinnegan users have absorbed chakra? Such as Sasuke absorb the Tailed Beasts' chakra or Madara absorbing Hashirama's chakra/Sasuke absorbing Naruto's chakra.

Is it the reason the Preta Path was unable to absorb the 'Rasenshuriken' (which was really Naruto in a henge)?
Was what the reason? Preta absorbed the Transformation Jutsu itself.

Asura Path (Knyght)

Knyght

The Collector
Re-drafted Preta Path. And now another...

Asura Path

The Asura Path has an ability to connect to another space-time harboring weaponry beyond anything humanity has achieved. These are summoned into this world using the wielder's body as a vessel, trading their flesh with mechanized armour and weapons powered by chakra to grant them both offensive and defensive abilities.

They can fight the enemy with physical movements that are normally impossible for humans as their body changes shape at will. It responds to the wielder's intent to grant them the ideal tool to deal with their opponent whether designed for close quarters combat, non-lethal restraints, ranged attacks and movement enhancements.

When fully active it modifies the entire body, inside and out, to turn them into a cybernetic organism filled with a mix of mechanical and organic parts. It changes their skin into metallic armor more durable than most metals without weighing them down or losing any of its original flexibility, and their muscles and bones are changed to tougher mechanical components which are typically able to exert more strength as well. Two extra pairs of mechanized arms extend from their shoulders which their mind and reflexes automatically adapt to so that they can be controlled as easily as their preexisting arms. And they gain an extra face of both sides of their original one which allows them to see beyond their standard range of vision to reduce blind spots and take full advantage of their additional reach.

The wielder can choose how far they transform themselves as they can limit it to specific body parts rather than changing entirely. The flesh transported to the other space-time remains tethered to them by chakra and returns to its original place once the transformation in that area is reversed.

In close range, on top of possessing a metal body and six arms the Asura Path can summon all manner of melee weapons such a serrated blades which extend like a whip to stab through a target, metal cords which can wrap around and bind a target, chainsaws which tear the obstacles with their high speeds cutting edge and other such unorthodox tools. And in long range, it can unleash its variety of bombardment weapons for wide-scale destructions. From techniques as simple as shooting its own hand as a blunt force object to shooting a salvo of chakra-charged missiles that explode on impact or firing beams of destructive chakra capable of destroying entire buildings or erasing someone from existence.

All in all, the Asura Path is destined to excel in every aspect of battle and turn its wielder into a near-perfect war machine.

So basically, it's like a temporary, reversible transformation into a cyborg, allowing the user to replace their body parts with machinery and swap in and out different weapons and tools at will?

I mean, that sounds awesome, but holy fuck is it bizarre. And raises so many questions about the nature of where exactly those weapons come from and who built them.

Also, what happens to the flesh that is replaced with extradimensional weaponry? Are the user's original limbs and internal organs just floating disembodied in another space-time until they are recalled when the jutsu is released? What about when Asura Path fired an energy cannon from his skull - did he replace his own brain with that weapon?

How is the flesh replaced? Does the Asura Path also include an automatic medical jutsu component for safely removing and reattaching the flesh? Or are the limbs actually still attached while existing in the other space-time through portal shenanigans, similar to how Obito can partially shift into the kamui dimension? If the later, then how is the user controlling the weapons?

Knyght

The Collector
I guess the original body parts are moved over to other space-time and are still connected to the original in some way but, unlike Obito, they aren't actually aware of them or capable of moving them until they return. Their awareness remains entirely with the body that exists in the
original world along with whatever enhancements came from across the space-time.

Is there anything else I can add to the Asura Path? It feels on the short side. I could perhaps expand on the type of weapons it summons e.g. melee weapons, projectile ones, straight up chakra firing ones and then ones that aren't quite weapons like the rocket boots.
