Hiding in Woods Jutsu/Terrain Voyage Jutsu/Transparency Escape Jutsu/Cherry Blossom Impact/Toad Flatness - Shadow Puppet (Knyght)

And so it shall be. Took a stab at some other jutsu too.

Hiding in Woods Jutsu

This ninjutsu allows a ninja with the Wood Release bloodline limit to merge their body with plants and trees to disguise their presence. Wood Clones naturally possess this ability due to the nature of their cells. It is essentially no different than Hiding in Earth or Hiding in Water, only using plantlife instead. Madara used this jutsu to ambush Tsunade and Zetsu's Mayfly could be called the perfected version of this jutsu.

Terrain Voyage Jutsu (Original Name)

This ninjutsu was developed by Orochimaru in imitation of the summon snakes that could burrow through the ground to escape an enemy's sight. The jutsu shoves aside material near Orochimaru's body to create a tunnel for him to move through regardless of whether it is earth, rock, stone or wood. So he can essentially burrow his way through his surroundings to quickly and safely enter or leave the area. The name is entirely fictional with no canonical basis.

Transparency Escape Jutsu

This is a jutsu that Jiraiya developed as a genin for spying on women, which served him well in later life when he started his work in intelligence. It's similar to the Hiding in Camouflage Jutsu in that it grants invisibility but instead of bending the light around him, it turns his body transparent so that light passes through him like clear glass. It's not as effective since it only affects his visibility and creates a noticeable blur when he moves.

Cherry Blossom Impact (Official Version)

Sakura's jutsu is defined as an adaptation of medical ninjutsu, despite being classed as taijutsu, because she uses her advanced understanding of how cells functions and control over her own chakra to push chakra into every single cell in her fist right up to their absolute limit, maximising the impact of her punch. If someone without that medical knowledge tried to use this jutsu, there would be a serious risk that they would accidently force too much chakra into their hands or not distribute it perfectly evenly among every cell, damaging their own hand.

Toad Flatness - Shadow Puppet

Jiraiya witnessed one of the Nara Clan use a jutsu which allowed them to slip into someone's shadow and seize control of their movement. Realising the high value of such a jutsu, he decided to replicate it. This resulted in a bastardized, but effective, version which accomplishes the same by first flattening his body to meld with their shadow and can only be maintained for as long as he can hold his breath.

In the first image of Orochimaru popping out of a tree you can actually see the bark tearing up around him, and the second image of him popping out of a tree also shows a big bulge of tree tissue around him as he emerges. If I had to guess, I'd say that the "Attack Prevention Technique" probably works by pushing the materialto the side to create a tunnel for him to move through, rather than letting him actually merge with the material. That's why it's not an elemental jutsu like Hiding in Water or Hiding In Earth, and why he can move through trees with it.
He doesn't seem to be tearing the bark in the image with Anko, though. Or at least I don't see it.

Wait a second, is Jiraiya's technique an entirely new Jutsu the same way Naruto's Sexy Jutsu is? Does Jiraiya just "Henge" himself into a transparent/translucent person? That crafty little pervert!

Cherry Blossom Impact

Sakura’s jutsu is defined as an adaptation of medical ninjutsu, despite being classed as taijutsu, because she uses her advanced understanding of how cells functions and control over her own chakra to push chakra into every single cell in her fist right up to their absolute limit, maximising the impact of her punch. Totally agreed. The actual punch is a Jutsu the same way Lee's Leaf Whirlwind is. My question is: Does Tsunade's "Chakra Enhanced Strength" technique ignore or bypass the body's natural limits on the amount of chakra that can be placed into a cell the same way opening the 1st Gate does, or could Tsunade and Sakura multiply the already-terrifying strength of their strikes five-fold just by opening the Kaimon?

Nixofcyzerra's theory on what the hell the "Hand Seals" Stat in the first three Databooks actually means, and how the Databook Stats actually work (Which also ends up discussing the Rasengan and Shape Transformation some more, Karin, and Chakra Absorption Techniques, including the Preta Path's Blocking Technique Absorption Seal. Go figure.)

So, as we all know the Databook stats (that are a representation of how much of an individual's potential has been realised, and thus should not be used to directly compare one Shinobi's abilities to another's*) have eight categories:

Ninjutsu, Taijutsu, Genjutsu, Intelligence, Strength, Speed, Stamina, and Hand Seals.
The first seven are relatively straightforward, but what exactly does the eighth, "Hand Seals," mean? Is it a measure of how good their chakra control is? Is it a measure of how many individual seals they can drop from a series, allowing them to fire Jutsu with only one or two Hand Seals, or even none at all?

Is it a measure of their knowledge of all Hand Seals, so someone with a higher Hand Seals stat would know esoteric seals like the "Mirrored Ram Seal" Madara and Obito used in the Six Paths Ten-Tails Coffin Seal, or the "One-Handed Seals" Haku (and Minato) used? Or is it simply the speed at which they can run through a series of them (their dexterity?)

Well, I doubt it's chakra control, as both Tsunade and Part 2 Sakura have Hand Seal stats of 4, and Kurenai has a Hand Seal stat of 4.5. I find it very hard to believe that the woman who revolutionised and invented modern Medical Ninjutsu (as Hashirama's Healing Power was inherent in him, as part of his Kekkai Genkai,) her student, and a woman who's "skill with genjutsu is so vast that it is said to rival even those of Uchiha Itachi" (source: 2nd Databook, page 163,) didn't train their chakra control to their absolute limit. Plus the Strength of a Hundred Seal is "reputed to be the pinnacle of chakra control" (2nd Databook, Page 201.)

So is it that the higher your Hand Seal stat, you less you actually have to use them, as you can perform Ninjutsu with fewer Hand Seals?

Well, no. See, we know thanks to Ebisu's lecture in Part 1 that Hand Seals do manipulate the exact amount of chakra necessary to perform a technique, but what the majority of Hand Seals "govern" is Shape and Nature Transformation.

Remember these pages?

From the first page, we can infer that the Tora (Tiger) Hand Seal is commonly affiliated with Fire Release, and if a Shinobi either makes the Tora Seal, or a series of Hand Seals that ends in Tora, they're probably going to use a Fire Jutsu. Every single Fire Jutsu in the manga has Hand Seals that end in Tora, aside from the Goemon, which had Jiraiya clap his hands together (and that's always a sign of initiating a technique. Naruto sometimes did it when he built-up chakra or was trying to break a Genjutsu.) In Fire Jutsu, the Tora Seal handles the conversion of normal chakra into Fire-natured Chakra. According to Narutopedia, some other Hand Seals are associated with certain elements. According to the Sasuke vs. Deidara fight, the Snake Seal is linked to Earth Release, all of Danzo's cutting Wind Release Jutsu ended in the Dog Seal, and apparently all the Nara Hijutsu end in the Rat Seal (so I guess Rat is a "Yin-conversion Seal.")

From the second page, we can infer that the Rasengan, a Ninjutsu that is pure Shape Transformation, either does have a "difficult" series of Hand Seals, or that someone who both knows exactly how the Rasengan works, and is highly knowledgeable about Hand Seals and how they interact with one another, could sit down somewhere and work out (maybe through equations or something, IDK) a lengthy series of Hand Seals that would allow them to use the Rasengan without going through the Balloon/Rubber Ball training.

Now, only a few days ago I, and a few other people who frequent this thread, had an extended discussion on the topic, as knight504 put it; Naruto and Minato's Rasengan: A Bigger Rasengan or Big Ball Rasengan? In it, it was concluded that the Rasengan was considered the "highest possible point" of Shape Transformation because it combined high levels of the three different types of Shape Transformation in one Jutsu (Hence why the Big Ball Rasengan can involve compressing Chakra to "an even higher density than usual," according to its Databook Entry.

Now, the three types of Shape Transformation are as follow:

The first:

Increasing the speed of one's already-rotating chakra, (either clockwise or anti-clockwise depending on the direction their chakra naturally spins, which is indicated by their hairline,) to build-up larger quantities of chakra, and focus it to a specific place (hand, stomach, feet, wherever.) That may be what Ebisu meant when he said that Hand Seals manipulate the exact amount of chakra necessary to perform a Jutsu. Note that judging by this page:

,

learning how to accelerate your chakra's natural rotation allows you to build-up more chakra than your circulatory system can comfortably contain. Hence why Jiraiya notes that the strain is starting to get to Naruto's system.
Incidentally, this is probably how Karin's ability to completely suppress her chakra and avoid detection by Sensor-type Shinobi works. She inverts the natural spin of her chakra, so that instead of building up chakra and increasing the amount she has flowing through her circulatory system, she reverses the process and decreases the amount she has in it, to the point where she doesn't have enough chakra within her system for Sensor-type Shinobi to detect anything (although it can't be absolutely nothing, or she'd probably die.) She can't use her Mind's Eye of the Kagura technique while she's doing this because there's practically no chakra in her system to fuel it. Heck, she's probably not much stronger physically than a Civilian of her height, weight and muscle definition when she uses it. She might even convert the "excess" chakra back into its two components, Physical and Spiritual Energy.

2nd type of Shape Transformation:

Increasing the concentration, as in density, of one's chakra. This, along with the 1st type of building up a high amount of chakra, is the step that Naruto takes further with the Big Ball Rasengan. "An even higher density than usual."

And the 3rd:

Containment. Not letting chakra escape out of a prepared Jutsu. Note that this differs from the 2nd part of basic chakra control, which is using all of the chakra you built-up (or as much as possible) in the formation of the Jutsu, without letting any go to waste.

You guys:
"But Nix, you handsome devil, what about the Rasengan and the Preta Path ability? The Rasengan has multiple rotations, and the Blocking Technique Absorption Seal involves absorbing any Jutsu, regardless of the Shape and/or Nature Transformation used to form it, and dispersing the chakra that forms it by spinning the chakra within one's body in the opposite direction. If the Preta Path is supposed to be a Rinnegan ability, then how come apparently anyone can learn to reverse the spin of their chakra?"
Well, there isn't a contradiction with the Rasengan due to how it works:

For a long time, I thought the technique worked by having clockwise and counter-clockwise drilling simultaneously. So you'd have a layer of clockwise rotation, surrounded by a layer of counter-clockwise rotation, surrounded by a layer of clockwise rotation, and so on. But it doesn't.

The inside of a Rasengan doesn't look like "Figure A" here:

It looks like this:

That's because the Rasengan works by rotating your chakra in one direction from several different angles.

When Naruto was first trying the make the balloon burst in his flashback in chapter 151, he was experimenting with moving his chakra around in different ways, but he was spinning his chakra in the opposite direction from his natural rotation, left, and it was disrupting his chakra flow due to it not being in harmony with his natural rotation.

When Naruto uses a second hand (either his own or a clone's) to form a Rasengan, it isn't because he hasn't got the "make the chakra more dense" stage or the "Containment" stage down (although judging by the Rasengan he used against Kabuto, he hadn't quite gotten the hang of the 3rd stage at that point,) it's because it's hard to make chakra rotate from a variety of angles fast enough to make an entire revolution, to make it "all the way round." That's what the clone does. It adds a bit more momentum to all the individual "strands" of rotation, giving them "a push" to make it back to above the centre of Naruto's hand, where they'll be given another "push."
Edit said:
Databook 4 thread said:
Spiralling Chained Spheres is a variation on the use of the Rasengan: by using two Rasengan with opposite rotations at the same time, the damages inflicted to the enemy is elevated by many times.
I don't know whether this is referring to the Twin Rasengan that Naruto used in KCM, or the Sage Art: Spiralling Serial Spheres that Naruto used against the Animal Path of Pain, but by this point Naruto's Shape Transformation has reached the point where, with the help of Kurama chakra arms or a clone, he can overcome the disruption of his chakra flow due to spinning his chakra opposite to his natural rotation. He doesn't suppress his chakra because he's not inverting his natural right rotation, just adding a left rotation "on top of it," and possibly also because he's simultaneously rotating his chakra clockwise and counter-clockwise, one for each Rasengan (or in the case of the Sage Art: Spiralling Serial Spheres, he provides the rotation for one Rasengan, and the clone supplies the other, which works because their palms are symmetrical, as in the clone's left hand is matching Naruto's right hand. It's the opposite principle of how someone can't shake a person's right hand with their left.) Planetary Rasengan is just an extension of these principles.

As for the Blocking Technique Absorption Seal, that can be explained quite neatly too:

Let me give you a supposition first:

All Chakra absorption methods work by reversing the spin of your natural chakra rotation.

I know what you're thinking, that's part of the description for the Preta Path power. But here me out. Someone like Yoroi Akado or Jirobo of the Sound Four absorbs chakra by reversing their natural chakra flow to suppress and lower the amount of chakra they have in their circulatory system (though not to the extent Karin does.) As a result of this, a low "chakra-pressure" environment is created in their circulatory system. By figuring out how to make their normally Unidirectional/One-way (only lets chakra out) Semi-permeable/Selectively-Permeable (only lets chakra out) Tenketsu into a two-way Semi-permeable membrane, the chakra of the target that they are trying to drain will diffuse from its current high-concentration environment to the absorber's low-concentration environment. It's "Chakra-Osmosis!" That's probably why we never see anyone drain someone of their chakra and beat the hell out of them at the same time. They can't enhance their body and absorb chakra at the same time!

But that still leaves the question of why the Blocking Technique Absorption Seal deserves to be a Rinnegan technique. Well, the answer is simple. The Rinnegan gives you mastery of all five basic Elements (it makes you the Avatar!) It probably gives you similar "instant mastery" for Shape Transformation. Hence why the Blocking Technique Absorption Seal can absorb "any chakra, regardless of any shape or nature transformation." If Yoroi Akado tried to absorb chakra that had been transformed in any way, he'd fail, so he can only absorb it from his opponent's circulatory system directly.

Now, you may be wondering precisely why I had to go through ALL that for an explanation about the Hand Seal stat. Well, it's simple. Naruto has effectively mastered Shape Transformation to a higher level than most Jounin do (as I imagine the Rasengan uses twice as much Shape Transformation as the "average" A-rank Ninjutsu does, to make up for its lack of Nature Transformation.) So if Naruto knew any Jutsu that used Hand Seals, he could probably reduce the series of Hand Seals it takes down to just the "Element Conversion Seals." Furthermore, Naruto has completely mastered Wind Transformation to the highest level, being able to instantaneously produce a huge quantity of sharp Wind-natured chakra, enough to disrupt and cut the fast-flowing water of a Waterfall. So post-Rasenshuriken Training/Databook 3 Naruto should be able to learn a Wind Jutsu, memorise the "feeling/sensation" of how the chakra is manipulated through Hand Seals, and then just replicate the two types of Transformation that the chakra goes through without them! Sealless Wind Jutsu! He looks at you. Bam, you just got blown away with a Great Breakthrough! He takes a deep breath. Boom! Vacuum Sphere/Vacuum Great Sphere/Vacuum Serial Waves coming at you!

So with such a broken level of Shape/Nature Transformation, Naruto's Databook 3 Hand Seals stat should be-

...Ah. Apparently the Hand Seal stat doesn't refer to your ability to "drop" them. I guess it's just a measure of how fast and how accurate someone is with them, along with knowledge of obscure Seals in addition to the standard 12, and how they all interact with each other.

Edit: Apparently the 2nd Databook (and this post) clarified that the Hand Seal stat is the level that the character "displays knowledge and proficiency in seals, used to perform jutsu." Kind of wish I knew that before I started writing this post. <_<

*Seeing as the 1st Databook, which covers up to a few chapters into the Konoha Crush Arc, gave Sasuke a speed stat of 3, and Lee a speed stat of 4, despite the fact that they're either the exact same actual speed, or so close you couldn't tell otherwise. This, plus the fact that Wave Arc Sasuke (who had yet to even go through his training for the Chuunin Exam's Final) out-sped Haku, who had a speed stat of 4, shows that Sasuke has a much greater "speed potential" than either Lee or Haku. In fact, as both Sasuke and Lee both have speed stats of 4.5 in Databook 3 (Lee's speed stat only increasing by 0.5,*2) and we know they were just as fast as each other during the invasion, we can deduce that Part 2 Sasuke is "actually" naturally/inherently faster than Lee by a factor of either exactly or approximately 1/3. He's 33-4% (or approx. 33-4%) faster than Lee.
*2 The fact that many character's strength and speed stats didn't seem to increase very much during the time between the End of Part 1 (Databook 2) and the Sasuke vs. Itachi fight (Databook 3) isn't an indication that they showed little linear physical improvement, but that the majority of their improvement came through their actual growth (getting older.) So "recently turned 13 years old Naruto" went from having "unlocked" 60% of his 13 year-old body's potential strength/speed (Databook 2 stats of 3/3,) to having "unlocked" 65% of his 15+1/2 year-old body's potential strength/speed (Databook 3 stats of 3.5/3.5,) going from strong enough to stop a giant snake's lips from closing on him, to being able to shatter stone from a point of poor leverage, after having a good portion of his chakra drained by the Preta Path (and No, he wasn't in Sage Mode when he did it.)

Not really, I thought of it as an independent jutsu.
I dunno, I guess I just liked the parallel of both Jiraiya and Naruto coming up with clever applications of Henge for perverted (or anti-perverted) purposes at around the same age. Although, in that flashback in chapter 139, Jiraiya's got to be about 11-13, judging by both his size and the fact that he had apparently hit puberty. But Team Sarutobi graduated at age 6, so I guess they were still doing the Bell Test even 5-7 years later (Damn, their teamwork might have sucked.)

*TF2 Heavy voice:* NEW THEORY!

Why didn't Naruto learn Senjutsu over the Time-skip?

So, yeah. Are we supposed to conclude that Jiraiya was an idiot for not taking Naruto to Mount. Myoboku during those 2 1/2 years?

NOPE!

See, we're told in the manga that you need a strong body to handle Senjutsu. I took that as basically meaning you need to have a very well-defined/high-quality chakra circulatory system. Better pathways allow you to build-up a larger amount of chakra at one time. If you've got tons of stamina but "scrawny" pathways, then not only would you be stuck firing off thousand of piddly little E-rank Jutsu, but you'd also be slow, as you wouldn't be able to send a decent amount of chakra to your muscles all at once to enhance them (though the amount of chakra your muscles can handle at once is also a factor, as otherwise PTS Naruto would be faster than Gai.) But if you've got a pathway system so defined that Hyuga are like "Damn, Son, gimme some training tips*," then you've got enough chakra innately flowing through your system that when you start taking in Natural Energy, it doesn't overwhelm your chakra and turn you to stone/cause your bloodline to kick in and start murdering people. (Of course, it's likely that someone's natural stamina, without having implanting Hashirama cells or something, generally corresponds to the quality of their CCS.)

But wait, Naruto can make Kage Bunshin by the truckload? So surely he could mould enough chakra to learn Senjutsu? And what about his Databook Stamina stat? He only went from a 4 to a 5!

Well, to answer the first question, take a look at this post I made about Shadow Clones *checks* 4 days ago:

Kage Bunshin can potentially use up a lot of chakra (if you have the clones do anything strenuous that draws further stamina from you,) and even if you have one clone out that's just sitting around, it's still twice as dangerous to use any further chakra, as we know from Tobirama's explanation in chapter 644 that the divided chakra in a clone's pathways will still move in resonance with the original's chakra. So if Kakashi made a clone and then tripled the amount of chakra flowing through his pathways, the clone would automatically do the same thing, even if it was just sitting there chilling out and reading Icha Icha Paradise.

So the point of this is to demonstrate that Part 1 Naruto used a ton of stamina making and using Shadow Clones, but never actually moulded a truly massive amount of chakra all at once until:

Rasengan training! And if Kakashi's Pathways were defined enough to make a Rasengan in part 1, which they must have been, that means that being able to handle the first two stages of making a Rasengan doesn't qualify you for Senjutsu training, as I very much doubt that Kakashi could handle it. The man still only has a Databook Stamina stat of 3, the lazy butterball. He just improved his chakra control over the time-skip.

As for Naruto's Databook Stamina stat increasing from a 4 to a 5, well, as I mentioned in the 2nd footnote of my last post:

The fact that many character's strength and speed stats didn't seem to increase very much during the time between the End of Part 1 (Databook 2) and the Sasuke vs.
So Naruto went from having "unlocked" 80% of his 13-year old body's stamina to having unlocked 100% of his 15+1/2 year old body's stamina. And if that doesn't sound like a significant increase, have a look at this.

that link said:
"Basically, until you have have armpit hair and facial hair, you are not going to be able to add muscle mass."
Just hitting puberty probably does amazing things to a Ninja's strength, speed and stamina. PTS Naruto could have triple the stamina and pathway quality that Part 1 Naruto did.

Add all this to the fact that the Diminishing Returns Principle:

When unfit athletes begin a training regime, their fitness levels improve rapidly, but as they become fitter, the diminishing returns principle becomes law. That is, as athletes become fitter, the amount of improvement is less as they approach their genetic limits. A corollary to this principle is that as fitness levels increase, more work or training is needed to make the same gains. As you’re designing training programs, remember that fitness levels will not continue to improve at the same rate as athletes become fitter
probably applies as well, my Headcanon is that Jiraiya spent a large portion of the training trip maxing out Naruto's stamina (to the point where only aging to his physical prime could naturally increase it,) so that he would A: have an easier time learning to control Kurama's chakra, as it would be less likely to overwhelm Naruto if he could build-up a ton of chakra himself (which didn't really pan out, because Kurama is hax,) and B: be able to learn Senjutsu at the tender age of 15/16. If they'd had another six months, then Jiraiya probably would have taken him to Mount Myoboku himself.

* And that's when I realised that Naruto must look like Mr. Universe to someone with a Byakugan.

Orochimaru's Hand-Seal Disability (Official Version)

Using the Dead Demon Consuming Seal, Sarutobi Hiruzen was able to seal away the portion of Orochimaru's soul that resided within his arms. This robbed his arms of their life force and left them as rotten husks. His arms were completely unusable and he had lost the ability to mould chakra with hand-seals, meaning that it was impossible for him to use most of his jutsu and he couldn't learn any more. Orochimaru was left with only the jutsu that he could use without hand-seals and any abilities inherent to his body because of his experiments.

He hoped to revive his arms by using Tsunade's unparalleled skill in medical ninjutsu but she ultimately refused. Whether she could have succeeded is unknown for certain but it's possible that she could have at least healed away the necrosis.

When the pain of his rotting arms grew unbearable, Orochimaru used his Living Corpse Reincarnation to steal the body of Gen'yuumaru. Possessing a new body meant that he had a new set of arms that didn't suffer from his previous disability, he could move his arms without restraint and no longer felt any pain. But the stolen portion of his soul meant that he was still incapable of using hand-seals.

Orochimaru researched the Dead Demon Consuming Seal to discover a method of unsealing his soul fraction from the God of Death when he realised that he still couldn't use hand-seals. But it wasn't until the Fourth Shinobi War that he finally restored his soul to its original state.

This is what left Orochimaru at Uchiha Sasuke's mercy, unable to incapacitate him through the curse seal that would have only required the seal of confrontation to activate or defend himself with his jutsu arsenal.

Near the end of the three years required to recharge the Living Corpse Reincarnation, Orochimaru's body began to reject him until he was left bedridden. One reason for this might be a natural reaction from possessing a body unsuitable for containing his soul and chakra. Another possible reason is that the Dead Demon Consuming Seal had more long-lasting effects as the damage to his soul could have caused his stolen body to reject his presence. It may even be that both possibilities are correct and only added to one another.

Raikiri and Chidori (Official Version)

Officially, Raikiri is an S-rank ninjutsu used by Hatake Kakashi and Chidori is an A-rank ninjutsu used by Uchiha Sasuke. In reality, they are both using the same jutsu.

Both jutsu are a high-speed stab that uses nature transformation to concentrate lightning chakra into the hand and shape transformation to make it to discharge. The reason they are treated as separate jutsu is from when Kakashi used his Chidori to cut a bolt of lightning, a feat witnessed by ally and enemy alike and spread like wildfire among the hidden villages. Witnesses started to call his jutsu "Raikiri" instead in recognition of this feat and Kakashi himself adopted the name as well. So to most shinobi, "Raikiri" is considered to be Kakashi's original S-rank ninjutsu.

At the same time, this name is only applied when Kakashi is the one using the jutsu because of how it's intertwined with his identity as the man who cut lightning. When used by another person, such as Uchiha Sasuke, the jutsu is only known as the Chidori except by those who are ignorant of the original name. Sasuke has in fact perpetuated this bizarre tale by only using the name Chidori for it and all its variation, even going so far as to correct anyone who tries to call it Raikiri.

In short, the only real difference between the Raikiri and the Chidori is the man wielding the jutsu.

Common Use of the Gate of Opening

The Eight Celestial Gates are a seldom used kinjutsu as a whole but the First Gate, the Gate of Opening, is almost a common skill among jounin-level shinobi. It's not something they specifically train for bit by reaching a certain level of combat ability, they instinctively reach the point where they can access the Gate of Opening. Because of that lack of training, the Gate is usually only opened for an moment to temporarily remove their physical restraints and perform feats that they otherwise couldn't manage. For instance, Kakashi unlocked this gate to complete his one-handed rock climbing practice. Such a burst of strength can be critical in a life-or-death situation.

Fusion Jutsu and Cooperation Ninjutsu (Knyght)

The Collector
This got surprisingly lengthy when I started thinking about Life in Konoha's ANBU.

Fusion Jutsu and Cooperation Ninjutsu (Official Version)

These are two styles of combat that involve combining two or more jutsu together to amplify their effects. Cooperation Ninjutsu requires more than one shinobi to performing their jutsu at the same time and Fusion Jutsu requires a single shinobi performing the jutsu by themselves.

The basis of Cooperation Ninjutsu is teamwork. One version of Cooperation Ninjutsu has the ninjas perform the same jutsu at the same time to multiply its strength and range by the number of jutsu e.g. the combination of multiple Earth-Style Walls creates Earth Release: Earth-Style Wall of Ten Thousand Ri. The other version has each ninja perform different, compatible jutsu which combines the effects of each to create a new jutsu greater than the sums of its parts e.g. the combination of Wind Release: Rasengan and Water Release: Tearing Torrent creates Typhoon Water Vortex Jutsu. The main difficulty of Cooperation Ninjutsu is for different users to synchronize their timing and chakra ratio - the amount of chakra each individual adds to their jutsu - so that one jutsu doesn't overwhelm the other and cause it to collapse, which is especially true when involving different techniques. Hidden Villages will train their ninja teams so that they can synchronize with each other in the heat of battle for large-scale offensive and defensive maneuvers. Clone jutsu are incredibly useful for this type of fighting since they can easily synchronize their ninjutsu with their creator, especially shadow clones.

Fusion Jutsu is a more difficult style to use since a ninja requires a high level of skill to single-handedly combine multiple jutsu together but it can be even more effective and versatile than Cooperation Ninjutsu. The ninja can perform the same jutsu multiple times to amplify its strength and range by weaving the hand-seals for the jutsu, not releasing the jutsu-transformed chakra and then weaving the same set of hand-seals again for the same jutsu and releasing it. It's possible to even triple or quadruple the jutsu's power with this method but such an act is beyond most shinobi. Using this method for Fire Release: Phoenix Flower Jutsu, for example, could double the total number of fireballs fired or double their size and power. It's a way of breaking the standard limitations of a jutsu by layering on jutsu on top of another.

Another method is for the ninja to do the same process but with different jutsu such as weaving the hand-seals for one jutsu, holding the jutsu-transformed chakra inside and then weaving the hand-seals for another jutsu and releasing them both together. For example, this could be used to combine Fire Release: Phoenix Flower Jutsu and Fire Release: Grand Fireball Jutsu to fire a volley of giant fireballs at the enemy. The jutsu do not have to be of the same chakra type either but this can be even harder since it requires the ninja to maintain a jutsu of one element and then follow-up with a jutsu of another element, fire one elemental jutsu and then follow-up with a different elemental jutsu fast enough for their effects to combine, or to create the elemental jutsu consecutively while holding the chakra inside and then release them at practically the same time. Understandably, Fusion Jutsu is as rare as it is powerful.

Addendum: Lightning Release: Four Pillar Binding is an example of Fusion Jutsu which uses Earth Release to raise four pillars of stone around the target and then uses Lightning Release to release a storm of lightning upon the enclosed target from the pillars.

Interesting. What's a Yang Water Hand Seal, and does it do what I think it does?
Chinese Zodiac
It technically means "To carry a burden". I'm totally betting it's used to make use of the actual water they're on.

So, yeah, Yin-Yang manipulation since Wave Arc.
YET ANOTHER THEORY! (Why can't I stop myself?)

The Rasenshuriken: Still incomplete?

So based off of the post I just made, containing the Hand Seals for the Water Dragon Bullet Zabuza (and Kakashi) used in the Wave Arc, as well as the link ankokudaishogun provided in the post directly above, we can conclude that the Water Dragon Bullet used in the Wave Arc combined aspects of all 3 types of Transformations:

Nature: Water (obviously.)

Shape: Making the front look like the head of a Dragon.

And "Quality/Polarity/imbalancing towards Yin and Yang:" Using Jin, or "Yang Water" Hand Seals to compose the Dragon of a higher proportion of Physical Energy (while still being considered "chakra" due to the Spiritual component.) If I had to guess, it incorporated Yang Release to accomplish something similar to the concept behind the Akimichi Hijutsu. In other words, Yang Release was used to make the Dragon F'ing huge.

Seriously, look at the size of those things compared to the surrounding trees.

So it would seem that you can combine Yin or Yang Transformation with other Jutsu to effect their qualities (shape/size,) as well as perhaps give them unusual secondary properties, the same way Shikamaru channelling Nara-style Yin Release into Asuma's trench knife allows him to use the Shadow Imitation Shuriken Technique to paralyse anyone if he hits their shadow with it. I mean, chakra flow normally gives a weapon (or a person) the secondary property of an element (Cutting/Paralysing Kunai, and Kakuzu's diamond-hard body.) So Shika's Nara-style Yin chakra flow gives it a "shadow-paralysis" property.

This means that the Wind Release: Rasenshuriken isn't the pinnacle of what a normal Shinobi (that isn't a Sage/Jinchuuriki/Kekkai Genkai bearer) can accomplish, because although it uses the highest level of Shape and Nature Transformation, it doesn't even touch on "Quality Transformation."

So what effect would "Quality Transformation" have on the basic Rasengan?

Well, as I've mentioned in other posts:

nixofcyzerra said:
I don't think that Tailed Beast chakra is just Natural Energy plus Tailed Beast will. I think it's Natural Energy that's been imprinted with the Tailed Beast's identity to the point where it's essentially become a new form of chakra, plus Tailed Beast Will.

Remember when Naruto was trying to form a Tailed Beast Ball? Bee asked him to gather positive black chakra and negative white chakra, balanced at an 8:2 ratio. But the thing is Yang (Yoton, or Light) chakra is considered Positive and White while Yin (Inton, or Dark/Shadow) chakra is considered Negative and Black.

My pet theory is that when the Sage split the Juubi into the Tailed Beasts, and essentially gave them what I assume to be newborn minds, he either immediately gave them chakra that was essentially inverted from, or orthogonal to, regular human chakra, or it developed that way over time. So the Tailed Beast Ball is essentially 20% "form from nothing" and 80% "breathe life into form."
So if this idea of mine is correct, then Naruto was essentially trying to learn "Quality Transformation" from scratch when trying to make the Tailed Beast Ball Rasengan, and a Yang Release: Rasengan would essentially be a Tailed Beast Rasengan, or a smaller version of a Tailed Beast Ball made entirely from human chakra, that has the addition of chakra rotation to stabilise it. Considering that Yang is "white" compared to Yin's "black," it would probably be white in colour, and it could be thrown as a long-distance projectile.

And an example of the absolute highest pinnacle of Ninjutsu that a "normal" Shinobi can reach would be a Futon/Yoton: Hakkō Rasenshuriken (Wind/Yang Release: White Light Spiralling Shuriken,) a version of the Tailed Beast Rasenshuriken that only uses human chakra.

The Relationship between Ninja and Civilians (Knyght)

Knyght

The Collector
Found this on r/naruto some time ago:

The Relationship between Ninja and Civilians

Generally speaking, the Kages share a relationship of equality with their Feudal Lords. The Kage provides military power and the Daimyo provide money and land.

In reality, Kages and villages leaders have lot of practical power in the country but the Daimyo remain symbolically in charge. To the common people, the daimyo is the one in charge and the only higher ups understand the reality of the situation, meaning the daimyo are still legitimate targets for enemies and major vulnerabilities. Essentially, the daimyo’s cultural importance precludes them from being murdered and replaced by shinobi.

If a Kage pulled a coup on their daimyo without aristocratic support, then all the wealthy nobles and businessmen who supported the old regime would pull out of that nation and take their business to rival villages. That alone might not be enough to discourage a particularly power-hungry Kage, or one who would rather be able to collect taxes directly than rely on a mercenary business model to self-fund his/her military, but there would also be the risk that all those displaced and angry rich clients would hire those rival villages to invade and reinstate the old daimyo or an heir.

Any Kage that overthrew their daimyo would be committing economic suicide and asking for a world war to show up on their doorsteps. And the Kages who stayed loyal would profit greatly if one of their rivals overthrew their daimyo. This system could only be created because the daimyos existed first and the villages all formed at roughly the same time, and it continues to exist because the villages all keep each other in check.

Currently, the civilian population co-exists with the shinobi village in a symbiotic relationship. When not at war the village contracts out shinobi of various skill levels to complete missions for the civilian population at a price commensurate with the level of danger anticipated. The missions ranked D through A sustain the economy of the shinobi village (S rank missions involve state-level confidential matters and cannot be bought).

Using Konohagakure as an example, through taxes or a percentage off the top, the Hokage and her council draw up a budget of expenditures for shinobi tools, supplies, training and jutsu R&D. The money that goes in the pockets of the shinobi sustains the village economy through patronage of establishments like Ichiraku's.

The majority of Konohagakure's food is imported from all over the country. They do not have commercial level farming that sustains the village and if they did, it would be endangered should the village be attacked and potentially cause them to starve. Large scale weapon production also takes place far from Konohagakure for the same reason.

This type of cooperation requires good relations with the surrounding country. The civilian population needs to know that they can raise their families and pursue their leisure while peacefully co-existing with the overly powerful shinobi. This is for the shinobi's benefit too because of the difficulties of controlling so many people in such a large country who distrust and fear them.

The civilian population has to know that they have some say when it comes to how these exceedingly powerful villages are run. This allows the civilian population some measure of comfort and security. That way, when they are exporting large amounts of necessary production to Konohagakure they can do so comfortably knowing that what they do is for the good of the entire country and not just for some power hungry monsters who can literally wipe out the entire country within the week.

Six Paths Chakra: What the heck is it? (nixofcyzerra)

RE: The Naruversity

Another Theory! (Because I like keeping knight504 in a constant state of "being behind on updating the links in the first post." :D)

Six Paths Chakra: What the heck is it?

Based off of, and revised and expanded from this post I made in the Naruto Question thread.

Six Paths Chakra can be described as exactly that. That is, the chakra of the Rikudou Sennin (and his mother and brother.) Six Paths Chakra is the chakra that is acquired by eating from the fruit of the Shinju.

This chakra cannot be entirely passed down or inherited in its full form. Kaguya has huge "Six Paths Stamina" and large quantities of Six Paths Chakra flowing through her pathways, but neither Hagoromo nor Hamura can be said to have fully inherited it.

Hagoromo inherited Kaguya's Six Paths Physical Energy, and her Rinne Sharingan, albeit in a watered-down form, the Rinnegan.

Hamura inherited Kaguya's Six Path Spiritual Energy, and her Byakugan and All-Killing Ash Bones.

At some point after Hagoromo sealed the Juubi's body and Chakra within himself and/or Kaguya was sealed within Chibaku Tensei, Hamura gave Hagoromo his Six Paths Spiritual Energy, and then left for the moon some time afterwards. At some point between these two events, Hamura fathered the Progenitors of the Hyuga and Kaguya clans.

After being gifted with the Six Paths Spiritual Energy by his brother, Hagoromo sired two Children, Indra and Ashura. Indra inherited the Six Paths Spiritual Energy and the Rinnegan, but, due to not having the Six Paths Physical Energy, his body wasn't strong enough to withstand the full Rinnegan, and it devolved into the Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan. Ashura inherited the Six Paths Physical Energy, as Hagoromo only had one special power to pass down compared to Hamura's two (even if the Rinnegan was definitely the best.)

It should be noted at this point that, as anyone who's ever seen a Yin-Yang symbol before knows, there is a little bit of Yin in the Yang half and vice-versa. Therefore, it would be more accurate to say that Hamura and Indra inherited a large quantity of Six Paths Spiritual Energy and a comparatively much smaller amount of Six Paths Physical Energy, which they could combine to use Six Paths Yin Release/Power. Hagoromo (initially) and Ashura inherited a large quantity of Six Paths Physical Energy and a comparatively much smaller amount of Six Paths Spiritual Energy, which they could combine to use Six Paths Yang Release/Power.

This is not to say that Indra was limited to Yin Release Jutsu and Ashura Yang, as while Indra had Six Paths Spiritual Energy, he had regular Physical Energy, with the opposite being true of Ashura.

Fusing the chakra of Ashura and Indra (or their Transmigrants) creates the Original Six Paths Chakra that Kaguya (and later Hagoromo) possessed.

But what is Six Paths chakra? Well, simply put, it's like Chakra but better.

One person who we know had Six Paths power temporarily, without other factors like transmigrants, Tailed Beast chakra, Natural Energy, Hashirama cells or the Rinnegan is Kakashi. Obito stole some of Madara's Six Paths Chakra, and later gave it to Kakashi when he migrated to him.

It allowed him to do stuff like this:

It makes you stronger/faster and increases the strength of your Jutsu.

The ""diluted" Spiritually-weighted Six Paths Chakra that the Uchiha possessed allowed them to generate black fire once they had acquired their Mangekyo, as well as craft incredibly strong Genjutsu. The best Medical Ninja in the world is a Senju, Hashirama's bloodline gave him an incredible healing factor, and a great deal of his Mokuton Jutsu probably, unbeknownst to Hashirama, also incorporated Physically-weighted Six Paths Chakra, or Six Paths Yang Release, seeing as Yamato's elements are Water, Earth and Yang, and Zabuza used Yang Water Hand Seals to supercharge his Water Dragon Bullet. That's why Yamato's Mokuton could never measure up to Hashirama's. As he wasn't Ashura's transmigrant, he didn't have any Six Paths Yang chakra, or at least far, far less. Trace amounts, really. He has "Diet Six Paths Physical Energy."

The 3rd Raikage and Darui, with their Black Lightning, are probably like the Gold and Silver brothers in that they're related to Hagoromo, albeit probably more distantly.* Considering that some Senju left and became Uzumaki, I'd wager that a few other Senju also migrated to Lightning Country and ended up siring some of the ancestors of the Raikage.

If Indra and Ashura chakra is combined to form Six Paths Chakra in an Uchiha, i.e, Indra's descendants, their chakra is strengthened, but nothing else. They don't awaken the Rinnegan, because they don't have a "Body of the Sage" that can withstand the "Eyes of the Sage." However, if they find a way to strengthen their body, such as a healthy infusion of Hashirama Cells ("It does a body good! 10 out of 10 Med-nins recommend!") they'll awaken it after enough time has passed for their "Chakra DNA" to be re-written or whatever. This is what happened with Madara, Obito and Sasuke (although as Sasuke's Hashirama infusion was different, being healed by Kabuto, I doubt he'll ever acquire the Mokuton.)

If the combination occurs in a Senju/Uzumaki, they also get Six Paths Chakra and even stronger bodies (stacking the durability/stamina boost of their bloodline with the strength speed bost of Six Paths Chakra,) as well as stronger Jutsu. Also, if they yoink a Sharingan from an Uchiha, they'll awaken the Rinnegan too, and probably much faster than Madara did, as upgrading an eye is probably a much simpler process than upgrading an entire body.

Adding Natural Energy to Six Paths Chakra gives you Six Paths Sage Chakra, which allows you to make Truth-Seeking Balls, and was what Naruto was using before Sasuke showed up, when he kicked Madara's Truth-Seeking Ball away.

Six Paths Sage Chakra is also what grants the bearer the power of flight, despite Kakashi's musings in Chapter 680. Kaguya had access to Natural Energy after merging with the Shinju, Hagoromo gained access to Natural Energy after sealing the Ten-Tails within himself, Madara and Obito gained access to Kaguya's Six Paths Chakra after unknowingly becoming a Jinchuuriki to her as well as the Natural Energy from the Shinju, and Naruto also knows Senjutsu.

Seeing as Sasuke and Kakashi are the only two that gain access to Six Paths Chakra, Yin-weighted or otherwise, but don't get any Natural Energy, and they are also the only two who do who can't fly (without winged Susanoo,) this is a safe assumption to make.

If you add Juubi chakra/chakra from all 9 Tailed Beasts to Six Paths Sage Chakra, you get Six Paths Sage Technique, or if you've already learnt how to use Senjutsu, Six Paths Sage Mode.

This theory also neatly explains the Tenseigan. Despite Hamura gifting his Six Paths Spiritual Energy to Hagoromo, he still had traces of Six Path Chakra within him. The Hyuga, descendants of Hamura, also all have small amounts of Six Path Chakra, concentrated and bound within their eyes. Sealing countless Byakugan, all containing tiny amounts of Six Path Chakra, away for millennia allows a massive amount of Six Paths Chakra to be stored up. Add a huge quantity of Six Paths Chakra to a Byakugan, and you get the Tenseigan and Tenseigan Chakra Mode.

*Actually, considering that Madara only started using Storm Release after reabsorbing the Shinju (the alternate form of the Gedo Mazo that likely contained Kaguya's soul and a sizeable portion of her Six Paths Chakra,) in addition to the fact that Hashirama (with his Mokuton) was also descended from Ashura, I'd guess that all combination-element Bloodlines require a relatively minuscule degree of Six Paths Chakra, and those that bear them are either distantly related to the Senju, or are descended from Jinchuuriki of Tailed Beasts that have the corresponding Advanced Element. Perhaps one of Mei's Grandparents or Great-grandparents was a former container of Kokuō.

God of Shinobi

This title first belonged to the Sage of Six Paths for creating the Shinobi Sect and being the forefather of ninjutsu. After his death and chakra became a weapon of war, it became tradition for the strongest shinobi of an era to be called the God of Shinobi as recognition of their superiority over all other ninjas. The level of strength and infamy it took to be considered such is remarkable, making it an incredibly rare title that very few have ever been worthy of. Their power is often considered nothing more than a fairy tale or legend from those who haven't witnessed them in battle themselves.

Senju Hashirama and Sarutobi Hiruzen are the two most recent ninja to have been a part of this tradition, the first for the incredibly power of his kekkei genkai and the second for his mastery of all ninja arts.

Three Brigades of the Hidden Sand (Official Version)

Due to the harsh lifestyle of the shinobi families native to the Land of Wind, they were nomads who traveled in small groups that never fully became clans in the same sense as those that lived in other countries. So instead of developing secret jutsu to be passed down between them, the clans of Suna were more prone to specific ninjutsu styles based on the Cloth Binding Jutsu, Puppet Jutsu and Iron Fan Jutsu. When the Hidden Sand was formed, the wielders of these styles were brought together into three groups to combine their skills and jutsu: the Binder Brigade, Puppet Brigade and Tempest Brigade.

The Binder Brigade are a group of sealing experts who extend and control ribbons of cloth to bind their enemies. They can achieve all kinds of tricks with their cloth such as using them like a set highly flexible, extra limbs to grab or strike obstacles, hardening them to a steel-like density and constructing them in an assortment of shapes. But its main use is that the ninjas can extend sealing formula through the cloth to completely suppress the movement and chakra of those caught within the wrapping. Maki, former student of Pakura, is the current leader of Binder Brigade though Ebizou remains the most skilled user of their skills.

The Puppet Brigade build puppets of wood and metal that are designed with all kinds of weapons and contraptions, and them control those puppets with chakra strings. The average puppeteer uses all ten fingers to control a single puppet but the more skilled the puppeteer, then the fewer strings they need to control the puppet. Masters of the Puppet Jutsu can wield a puppet with nothing but their chakra with the string is just a conduit to transfer their chakra to the puppet. Puppeteers are well versed in poisons to coat the weapons of their puppets and fill them with gas, and in fuuinjutsu to seal away their puppets and seal even more weapons inside them. Kankurou, the elder brother of the Fifth Kazekage, is the current leader and strongest member of the Puppet Brigade. He was preceded by Sasori and then Chiyo before him.

The Tempest Brigade are a group of the foremost masters of Wind Release in the ninja world. Each member is armed with a giant war fan made of chakra conductive metal and paper that capable of generating powerful winds. The ninja channels chakra through the fan as they swing to amplify and control the air currents stirred by its passage and release their wind jutsu. Not only does this remove the need for hand-seals entirely, but it also turns the chakra nature that is most suited for close-to-mid range combat into one that can easily cover great distances without losing any of its offensive power. These ninjas are typically armed with one or two smaller fans as well that are better suited for attacking with wind jutsu at close range when forced into melee combat.

The most talented members of the brigade have the right to sign the weasel summoning contract who wield razor-sharp sickles to great effect and can enhance with the summoner's wind jutsu with their weaponry. One of their favoured tactics from the wars was to grind the surrounding earth to dust and sand with ferocious winds and whip up a sandstorm to blind and tear at their enemies, and even more more terrifying is is their cooperation ninjutsu capable of creating hurricanes that can overturn entire battlefields. Temari, the elder sister of the Fifth Kazekage, is the current leader and most powerful member of the Tempest Brigade.

Forbidden Scroll of Seals

This was a scroll created by the First Hokage, Senju Hashirama, after the hidden village system was created and many of the jutsu that carried risks to the user or others were labelled as kinjutsu. It not only contains all of the kinjutsu that exist within Konoha - including their names, description of the effect they have, the risks of using them and instructions on how to perform them - but a record of any kinjutsu they have discovered in the hands of foreign shinobi, organization or hidden village.

Because of the wealth of information within the scroll, it also has an incredibly intensive safety measures to prevent it from being used by unauthorized personnel or enemies. The first kinjutsu within the scroll is the Multiple Shadow Clone Jutsu, considered the least dangerous and most common jutsu within the scroll; anyone who learns the Shadow Clone Jutsu through the appropriate channels are expected to read this entry to fully understand the dangers of the jutsu. This is one reason that the jutsu has been left unsealed and can be viewed just by opening the scroll. The other reason is to lure a reader into a false sense of achievement as they believe that the rest of the scroll has no protection beyond its location inside the Hokage Tower.

In actuality, the scrolls contains an array of sealing formula that grows more complex the deeper into the scroll it grows. This sealing jutsu is used to prevent any of the jutsu beyond the first from being seen without the appropriate unsealing jutsu applied as each jutsu requires its own unsealing to be unlocked. Those ranked highest within the village have access to several of its unsealing jutsu each while the Hokage has the right to unseal them all.

Hidan's Immortality (Official Version)

He is the first successful subject of the Jashin Cult's extensive experiments with kinjutsu to create immortality.

Hidan cannot be killed by blood loss, damaged organs, dismembered limbs, disembowelment, suffocation, poison, illness and even decapitation. His body is able to endure any injury inflicted upon, even resist most forms of damage outright, without losing his life force though he is still susceptible to pain. He can even recover from any injury inflicted on his body but, while much faster than other human beings and capable of healing injuries impossible for others, it isn't a fast process in itself. Fortunately for him, he can continue function regardless of most injuries so it is not nearly the kind of handicap that would cripple anyone else.

The only ways Hidan can die is through extreme malnutrition i.e. starvation, old age or the complete destruction of his body. Hidan's body will slowly but surely wither away without sustenance even though he is capable of surviving such a state far beyond any other human being, his body still ages like normal so he is able to reach a point where he could die a natural death, and if his body is damaged to the point that he cannot endure or regenerate then it is simply impossible for his life force to continue to exist.

The easist method of dealing with Hidan is not to kill him but to incapacitate him; loss of limb may not kill him but he would still limit his mobility, especially if his head is detached from the rest of his body. He would still be alive in that state but unable to control his body, leaving him completely helpless.

His defeat at the hands of Nara Shikamaru ensured his death as he slowly rots away from his starvation, unable to move with his body scattered undeground and unable to heal without sustenance. By the time of the Epilogue, Hidan was long since dead. The Way of Jashin, however, was not.

Hoozuki Clan and Hydrification Jutsu (Knyght)

Hoozuki Clan and Hydrification Jutsu (Official Version)

This jutsu is the pinnacle of Water Release which allows the user's entire body to be liquefied and solidified at will, literally transforming them into a mass of water bound by chakra. They can turn parts of themselves into liquid while the rest remains solid, control their water form just as naturally as they control their human form, control the consistency of that liquid so that it can act like regular water, syrup, oil or even jelly, as well as redistribute the water content inside their solid body to pump up their muscles for superhuman strength.

It is the hiden ninjutsu of Kirigakure's Hoozuki Clan and of the Land of Water's ninja clans lacking a kekkei genkai, they are undoubtedly considered the greatest. It was invented by one of the greatest masters of Water Release in shinobi history and it was only through their genius and thorough understanding of water chakra that they could discover a way to transform their own body into the element itself. They passed their affinity for water and this jutsu down to their offspring who learned it from a younger age, used it throughout their lives and then passed it down to their descendants, so on and so forth. Thus the Hoozuki Clan was born like so many others.

The Hydrification Jutsu is the very first jutsu taught to every member of their bloodline once they learn to harness their chakra. This is a common practice among ninja clans but the Hoozuki have two very compelling reasons to do so. The first is because of the difficulty of the jutsu; it may not be nearly so hard to learn the jutsu as it was to invent it, but it takes time to use it effectively. The second is because the user is immune to harm from physical attacks when it's active but is as vulnerable as anyone else when inactivate. By mastering this ninjutsu to the highest level, it becomes possible to maintain it indefinitely as long as they have enough chakra so that they become incredibly difficult to kill or even hurt.

But when struck by a strong enough force, the feedback from having their body so violently dispersed can leave them in a jelly-like state of unconsciousness such as when Suigetsu was struck by a Tailed Beast Ball. It wouldn't cause permanent damage but they are incapacitated for a time. And an even greater weakness than this is lightning jutsu. Their liquid bodies make them highly conductive so the usual effects of lightning jutsu are significantly amplified, leaving them in incredible pain and unable to properly liquidize their bodies from the paralysis.

And an unfortunate consequence of the constant use of this jutsu and the liquid nature of their body typically means that they can suffer from relatively low stamina as they, quite literally, evaporate from heat and exertion. The effect is reduced depending on the strength and skill of the Hoozuki but the best counter to the problem is water. It is standard practice for them to keep themselves hydrated with water bottles carried on hand.

On the other hand, a Hoozuki near a large enough source of water is practically inexhaustible as well as near-invulnerable as they can make that water a part of their own body and use it as an extension of themselves. Few things can stop a Hoozuki when near a river, lake or sea. Only the ice-wielders of the Yuki Clan were willing to challenge them on such terrain during the Warring Clans Era. The animosity between these two clans was almost as famous as that between the Senju and Uchiha. It was thought of as ironic considering how powerful a union of their abilities could have been.

Sasuke's Missing Tomoe

When Sasuke awoke his Sharingan in the battle against Haku, he had one tomoe in the left eye and two tomoe in the right. This was very unusual as the Sharingan has only ever awakened with a matching number of tomoe. Usually it has one in each eye, occasionally it has two and the very first Uchiha was said to have been born with all three tomoe in each.

The reason for its unusual state is because Sasuke's Sharingan first truly awoke - with one tomoe in each eye - when he was seven years old in response to the murder of his family and the betrayal of his brother. But witnessing his brother's tears after everything that had happened that night too confusing and distressing for Sasuke to accept. He desperately suppressed the memory so that he could focus on his revenge and never realised that he awoke the Sharingan.

At times, he would remember that event but it wasn't until Obito revealed the truth that he came to accept what happened.

Sasuke didn't realise his Sharingan had awoken at the time and just like those dormant memories, it too was forced into dormancy until he was pushed to the limits of his ability in battle. Even so the experiences and strength that Sasuke had gained in the meantime meant that his eye had tried to evolve but, in its dormant, it couldn't do so completely. However it didn't take the long for it to take on a more natural appearance as his left eye developed its second tomoe by the time of the Chuunin Exams.

Because I just reminded myself of this little theory. It takes more liberties than my usual work but I like the idea.

Chuukichi of the Ice Release (Official Version)

Chuukichi, Gari, Toroi and Pakura were Edo Tensei summoned during the Fourth Shinobi War and were among the few that weren't pre-existing characters. But prior to their appearance in the manga, four unnamed characters appeared in the sixth movie, The Will of Fire, with a striking resemblance to those Edo Tensei in appearance, clothing and village affiliation.

In the movie, they were captured by the antagonist for a ritual that would grant him all their kekkei genkai into one, ultimate body. In the manga, three of their counterparts Explosion Release, Magnet Release and Scorch Release respectively. Meaning three out of four have a kekkei genkai in both sources, even if the ones revealed in the movie don't match those shown in the manga.

Chuukichi's only contribution to the war effort was his chakra sensing as he never participated in combat. But given the apparent origin of his character, I would think that he does have a kekkei genkai but was never given the opporunity to show it.

As it's one of the elemental kekkei genkai native to the Land of Water and Chuukichi was shown using Hidden in the Frost Jutsu in the anime, I believe that he would possess Ice Release. I would even suggest that he uses a different type which focuses on frost and snow instead of ice. As Haku was also resurrected who was a far more significant character, it gives a valid reason for Chuukichi to be forced to remain backstage.

So these four characters would actually be known as Gari of the Explosion Release, Toroi of the Magnet Release, Pakura of the Scorch Release and Chuukichi of the Ice Release.

Exploding Clay (Knyght)

Knyght

The Collector
Narutopedia has now decided that Explosion Release is Earth and Lightning, according to Deidara's page. With that and goldenarms' idea that Deidara doesn't even have Explosion Release, I could create three versions of following theory.

Exploding Clay (Official Version)

Deidara was originally a member of the Explosion Corps, an organisation within the Hidden Rock that specialise in explosives. They are demolition experts who develop and use all kinds of explosive tools and jutsu to engage in warfare. Practically everyone born with the Explosion Release kekkei genkai native to the Land of Earth is assigned to the corps. Deidara was one of their best and brightest.

Deidara was equally praised for his talent in clay sculpting and it was with this talent that he took explosive ninjutsu to a higher level. He stole Iwa's forbidden jutsu and used it to transform his body, growing mouths on his hands and chest which allows him to knead chakra into any material he eats.

He eats clay with one of his mouths, kneads his explosive chakra into the clay, shapes the clay into a sculpture and then infuses it with his earth chakra to control it. The explosive chakra controls the strength and size of the explosion and the earth chakra controls the size and movement of the sculpture. Thus Deidara created Exploding Clay and when he used it against one of his pursuers as he defected from the village, he realised that this was the true art he had been searching for.

Its weaknesses are that he is limited by the amount of clay he has collected and his explosive chakra suffer the same weakness as the clay. He can create more clay by changing the composition of earth with ninjutsu - though this works best with a natural source of clay - which isn't a difficult process but doesn't work fast enough for him to instantly restock. And by kneading the explosive chakra into the clay, instead of just infusing it with chakra like standard ninjutsu, it is vulnerable to lightning chakra in the same way that earth chakra is which means that they can defuse it.

But without earth chakra his clay creations would just be inanimate explosives and without explosive chakra they would just be animated sculptures. Only by combining the forbidden jutsu and his kekkei genkai was this style made possible.

This advanced element is the result of mixing fire and earth, combining the heat of fire with the toughness of earth, to create volcanic or corrosive substances. Just as some elements can create substances other than the element itself such as using Fire Release to produce ash and explosive powder as well as fire, Lava Release can be expressed in forms other than molten rock such as acidic mud, vulcanized rubber and quicklime. This is caused by earth chakra's ability to alter solidity and composition so that the interaction with fire chakra creates a different kind of material.

The groups or individuals with this jutsu style that lived in separate regions ended up specialising in different examples of Lava Release. For instance the Four Tails with molten rock, Terumii Mei of the Hidden Mist with acidic mud, Dodai of the Hidden Cloud with vulcanized rubber and Kurotsuchi of the Hidden Rock (and her clan) with quicklime. This creates the misconception that there are multiple types of Lava Release that people are born with or that they belong to a different jutsu style altogether.

In actuality, anyone with the kekkei genkai can theoretically learn any Lava Release jutsu. What stops them is usually personal bias, insufficient knowledge and just a lack of interest.

Tsunade's Appearance (Official Version)

Tsunade developed an original ninjutsu that uses her unparalleled medical knowledge and ability to mask her aged appearance. She did not age gracefully and her vanity pushed her to find a solution that allow her to keep her beauty.

She is able to transform her body to adopt a more youthful appearance so that even though she's in her fifties, she can change her body to look as if she were in her teens, twenties, thirties or forties. The jutsu only affects Tsunade's appearance and doesn't actually grant her a younger body so internally her body would reflect true age and still suffer health problems associated with age. At the same time her mastery of medical ninjutsu renders this moot as she can keep her body in top shape regardless, aided by the inherited lifeforce of the Senju and Uzumaki. The jutsu remains active for as long as Tsunade has the minimum amount of chakra needed to maintain it as it automatically siphons off her chakra stores to keep her current appearance. Once the jutsu ends, either from chakra exhaustion or the aftereffects of her Creation Rebirth, her body reverts back to her natural age.

Earth Release: Different Kinds of Underground Travel (Knyght)

Thanking goldenarms for this.

Earth Release: Different Kinds of Underground Travel

Earth Release: Double Suicide Decapitation conceals the caster underground in preparation for their target and then switches places with them, dragging the victim into the earth. Their head is usually left above ground for interrogation, torture or execution but they can be dragged all the way under to suffocate in the earthen trap. The jutsu isn't a means of truly traveling underground and instead only lets them dive down to wait for their prey to get close enough to strike.

Earth Release: Underground Projection Fish silently slides the caster into the earth to sneak up on their target. It is not meant for travel but for stealth, so the caster moves at a slow pace but can easily sneak up on an unsuspecting target from beneath their feet. Even as they raise their body out of the earth, the jutsu doesn't make any sound. It is a favored jutsu of the Hidden Rain, known for its skill in assassination.

Earth Release: Subterranean Voyage transform the earth surrounding the user into a fluid. It is a means of high speed travel through the earth that can be even faster than running, allowing the caster to reach the destination without being seen. It is best for the caster to remain close to the surface and to know exactly where they are going beforehand as they cannot see underground.

Earth Release: Hiding Like a Mole where it changes earth into fine sand by flowing chakra through it, allowing the user to dig through it like a mole. It is excellent for hiding as they can dive deep into the ground to avoid and enemy and the user can move through at a decent speed with it. A secondary effect of the jutsu is that it allows them to sense magnetic force to detect their direction and what is happening above ground, unlike Earth Release: Subterranean Voyage.

Earth Release: Underground Passage pushes aside the earth to create a tunnel that the caster can crawl or walk through. The shifted earth is compacted into the walls to maintain its stability. It can be made large enough to accomodate a group of people and is typically used to infiltrate a location from underground as they break in from beneath. It has the disadvantage of not being able to burrow through solid rock which would require alternate means to break through. This jutsu is unnamed in the source material.

Seven Swords of the Hidden Mist (Knyght)

Seven Swords of the Hidden Mist (Official Version)

Kubikiribouchou, the Seversword, has the power to repair itself and its wielder by consuming the blood of others. As it cuts through its enemies, it draws out the blood from their wounds and absorbs it into the blade where it can restore itself to its original form when damaged and heal its wielder of their own injuries. As long as the wielder keeps chopping up his enemies with it, it'll use their blood to heal them so that they can keep slaughtering folks no matter how badly wounded. Zabuza never had the opportunity to use this ability against Kakashi as he couldn't cut him with this sword when he needed healing and then couldn't even use it by the end of the battle.

Kiba, the Thunderswords, flows lightning chakra through its blades as long as it's in the hands of its wielder. The chakra vibrates at such speeds that it has a sharpness unsurpassed by any other weapon, and it can be controlled and released directly as a conduit for lightning jutsu. Someone with no skill for lightning nature transformation could cast lightning jutsu like a master through it and someone who does possess that skill can go above and beyond what most can manage.

Nuibari, the Longsword, possesses a sharpness second only to the Thunder Sword. The wire conducts chakra so that blade's movements in mid-air can be controlled like a guided missile and it can extend indefinitely to prevent the wielder from becoming anchored by all the pierced bodies and limiting their movement range.

Shibuki, the Blastsword, can produce an unlimited number of explosions. After each blast, the explosive formula is reapplied to the now-empty tags and cycled around so that each blow can be accompanied by an explosive finish. The sword is durable to the point that it completely unharmed no matter how many blasts it used and all of the force is directed away from the wielder towards the enemy.

Kabutowari, the Bluntsword, can break through any defence. The axe and hammer are, individually, strong but unremarkable weapons. But when used in conjunction - when the axe first hits and obstacle and then the hammer strikes the axe - the force is automatically amplified until it reaches the point where it can break through. No matter how powerful the defence, the Bluntsword will shatter it. It's an ironically subtle power that isn't particularly impressive when used against standard weapons and armour but shines when up against something especially tough.

Hiramekarei, the Twinsword, can store and emit chakra in the shape of solid weapons. The chakra can take the form of a sword, hammer, mace - whatever the wielder can imagine - possessing strength and sharpness that surpasses standard weaponry. And the more chakra stored within the sword then the greater the size of the weapon it can emit, whether the chakra is given during the battle itself or collected other time in preparation for one.

Samehada, the Greatsword, is the the most terrifying of the seven swords and unique among them all in origin and power. It was forged from the scales of a monstrous shark that once terrorized the seas around the Land of Water, creating a sword that shreds its victims and ravages their body with terrible wounds. Its power to cut and absorb chakra came from that very same creature, allowing it to drain the energy of its enemies and slice through their jutsu, even sustaining itself on the chakra of its wielder so that few were capable of using it. As Samehada continued to indiscriminately feed on chakra, the life that once resides in its flesh was rekindled with limited sentience. And with that sentience came new abilities as it controlled its own form and powers; stretching and bending its shape, increasing its size, growing a fang-filled mouth, transferring chakra to and heal and restore others, and even fusing itself with its wielder to combine their powers.

Why Only the Tsuchikage Fly (Official Version)

The Added-Weight Rock Jutsu and Light-Weight Rock Jutsu were invented by Ishikawa, the man who would become the First Tsuchikage. In his day, he had a reputation similar to the latest of the Raikages as a physical powerhouse; increasing his weight to make his blows as heavy as possible and decreasing it until he could soar through the sky, switching between instantly to create a style that was the perfect blend of power and speed. His aerial dominance meant that he could use tactics few others could match and in one particularly famous incident, destroying an entire battlefield and those upon it by dropping a small mountain from above. The feat cemented his moniker as Ishikawa of Heaven and Earth.

Ishikawa was notoriously secretive about his jutsu and did not teach it to any of his clans or to those who joined the village he formed. Even though the jutsu is only B-rank and could be learned by any of the jounin, he had no desire to pass on that knowledge to the masses. He did record the jutsu in a scroll so it couldn't ever be lost but it is one of the most secret and most secure scrolls in the Hidden Rock. He taught it only to his second-in-command and successor, Muu, who then taught it to Onoki who would become the Third Tsuchikage.

And so the ability of unaided fly became an unspoken symbol of the Tsuchikage's powers. As the Fourth Tsuchikage, Kurotsuchi is the latest to learn the Added-Weight Rock Jutsu and Light-Weight Rock Jutsu.

Straight Tomoe and Curved Tomoe (Official Version)

The Mangekyou Sharingan has a little known quirk in that it can be categorised into two categories: Straight Tomoe and Curved Tomoe. Every Uchiha with an awakened Sharingan leans towards one half more than the other: the Eye of Hypnotism and the Eye of Insight. This difference becomes even more prominent with the heightened abilities that stem from awakening the Mangekyou.

A Straight Tomoe signifies an emphasis on the Eye of Insight, making the movements far more fluid in battle as they see exactly what they need to do to counterr their enemy. And a Curved Tomoe signifies an emphasis on the Eye of Hypnotism, granting them greater control over an enemy's mind and senses. Sasuke is an example of the former and Itachi is an example of latter.

Flying Thunder God: Guiding Thunder/Flying Thunder Formation (Knyght)

Flying Thunder God: Guiding Thunder (Official Version)

This is a space-time barrier jutsu based on the Flying Thunder God Jutsu. Using one of his tagged kunai, Minato opens a tear in space-time which instantaneously sucks in an incoming attack and transfers it to another location marked with the jutsu-formula.

Minato can create the tear anywhere within his immediate vicinity and its size can vary to accommodate the size of the attack used against him or others The jutsu is especially dangerous when he chooses to transport it to a person that he has tagged instead of a kunai, meaning that the target has no way of expecting the attack or defending themselves.

Flying Thunder Formation (Official Version)

This is an alternate version of the Flying Thunder God Jutsu meant to enable lesser shinobi, ones unable to learn the S-rank ninjutsu themselves, to accomplish the same effect. It requires three casters who made a circle and each perform the seal of confrontation to link them together. They then break down the complex chakra transformation required to traverse space-time into three parts with each member handling one part in unison with the other, like how Naruto would use a pair of clones to create the Wind Release: Rasen Shuriken. Doing so allows them to transport themselves and/or anything inside the inside the confines of the ring to a marked destination.

Minato invented the jutsu and taught it to the Hokage Guard Platoon, a team of three special jounin that he put together. Their purpose is to come to his aid in an emergency (possibly with other allies when needed) or protect an important target designated by the Fourth by transporting them away with the danger zone.

Healing Resuscitation Regeneration Jutsu/Fuuinjutsu in Medicine (Knyght)

The Collector
Healing Resuscitation Regeneration Jutsu

This is a cooperation medical ninjutsu which uses a portion of the injured individual's body to act as a medium and have its cells converted into new cells to regenerate the missing section of the body. The level of precision required to control the high quantity of chakra to match the proportion of cells means that it cannot be performed single-handedly and takes a long time. It uses a sealing formula because it is very difficult for more than one medical ninja to operate on a single patient with medical ninjutsu as the different chakras disrupt one another, so the medic-nin instead channel their chakra through the formula to keep it under control and guide the chakra to the affected area without flowing out of order. When a medic has exhausted themselves (mentally and/or physically), they are replaced when a fresh reserve waiting on the sidelines. It takes hours for the cells in the medium to be prepared but the transformation itself is rapid, only that makes it more difficult to ensure the regeneration is perfect.

It's a high-risk jutsu where, if it fails, the body will violently reject the new cells and potentially cause death which is why it is rarely used outside of healing already life-threatening injuries. The greater the wound, the more chakra and time is needed and the more likely it is that the jutsu will fail.

Fuuinjutsu in Medicine

It surprises most people to discover that medical ninjutsu and fuuinjutsu are often used together in hospital to aid patients. Fuuinjutsu's ability to restrain, block and seal has been adapted in many ways for medicinal puprposes.

It can be used to aid delicate surgical procedures by precisely flowing chakra into a patient's wound such as with the Healing Resuscitation Regeneration Jutsu. Medical chakra can be stored within tags or strips and bound to the patient to accelerate healing without the direct involvement of a medic-nin; their doctor or nurse will have another seal tied to it which allow them to monitor its effect and turn it on or off as necessary. It is especially useful for sterilized as they can maintain barriers that ward of harmful substances and infection to keep the patient in an ideal environment. Fuuinjutsu can even be used to directly regulate an individual's inner equilibrium to keep their condition as stable as possible when their body is in a dire state.

Shinobi Village Ranks (Genin/Special Chuunin) (Knyght)

Altered Nova

Well-Known Member
RE: The Naruversity

Here's part of a post I've been working on for a while about ninja ranks. My intention is to make them more realistic by including concepts such as security clearances and economic impacts of the different ranks upon the villages. So far i've only written up two ranks but I'm having a bit of writer's block so I'll just post what I've got so far for critique.

And yes I did invent a new rank, because somebody needs to do the non-combat grunt work that low ranking genin don't have the security clearance for and it would be stupid to demand that every ninja secretary and lab technician also be a badass who is qualified to lead a team of soldiers in the field.

Shinobi Village Ranks

Genin is the lowest level of ninja, and the first rank given to those who graduate from the ninja academy. Genin are not yet competent or experienced enough to lead missions outside the village, and are usually only allowed to command risk-free D-rank missions which involve performing manual labor and other simple tasks - such as painting a house or finding a lost pet. They may also participate in low-risk C-rank missions under the supervision of a higher ranked ninja which can involve mild danger or traveling outside of the village - such bodyguard duty to civilians or hunting wild animals.

Most villages place their freshly-graduated Genin in four-man cells, consisting of three genin and a special jounin or jounin-sensei, in order to learn teamwork, improve their skills, and experience true ninja life under the supervision and protection of an elite shinobi, all while becoming accustomed to dealing with clients and handling paperwork. This probationary period usually lasts for a few years, after which the sensei will take a new genin team or return to full active duty, and their former students must become fully responsible for their own training and advancement.

While the large majority of ninja registered in each village are genin, only a small number of those genin are actively take missions at any given time. The majority of genin are placed in a reserve force which pays them a modest salary to maintain their combat readiness and may call them back into active duty if their village becomes involved in a large scale conflict, but who otherwise live as normal civilians. The reason for this is that most ninja villages are partially or fully privatized organizations that need to pay for their own budgets, and genin are not profitable; they can only take D-rank missions, which are usually subsidized by the village because few civilians can afford to hire ninja to perform their household chores. Maintaining a large standing force of active duty genin would be a huge financial drain on a village.

As a result, there is tremendous cultural and social pressure on new genin to get promoted as quickly as possible, and on older genin to retire and stop wasting D-rank missions that could be given to younger and more promising ninja. Genin who fail to be promoted or to retire by their mid-twenties or later are generally looked down upon by their peers, although the severity depends upon their perceived honesty. Those who regularly attend chuunin exams and take only enough D-ranks necessary to support themselves may be labeled "Eternal Genin", a slur targeted at genin who are believed to be too incompetent to earn a promotion, too stupid to realize this (otherwise they would retire), but too lucky to get killed in an exam. Those who skip too many chuunin exams or are perceived to be taking too many D-rank missions, on the other hand, run the risk of being labeled a "Career Genin" - that is, a coward who intentionally sabotages their own promotion chances in order to earn an easy paycheck while being exposed to a minimum of danger. Unsurprisingly, that charge tends to be devastating to one's reputation and future career prospects if it sticks.

Special Chuunin is an rank given to ninja who are not qualified to become Chuunin but who perform sensitive jobs for the village which requires a Chuunin level security clearance. Special Chuunin are the backbone of any village and perform a wide variety of necessary but unglamorous jobs, including but not limited to; computer technician, paralegal, administrative clerk, medical nurse, logistics management, accounting.

Special Chuunin is considered an alternative promotion path to Chuunin. Many ninja commonly skip this rank entirely via a Chuunin Exam, and as Special Chuunin typically earn a steady paycheck performing non-combat jobs within the village, they usually stop taking field missions and thus have little opportunity for further advancement.
